hello all! just a short update here.
yesterday, we had another round of pre-camp training prior to the one we had last friday, which was mainly on tent-pitching and kitchen shelter. we trained the sec1s and sec2s on their orienteering skills and outdoor cooking.
a couple of things noted, the sec1s still do not get most of the songs and are not singing along with us although it is nearing JUNE! which means half a year had past. i hope the sec2s and sec3s will do something about it because it seems as though the past guides spirit is lacking when we sing and cheer. another thing is that some of the guides are still absent without consent, and being their patrolmates and friends, it is only your duty to ask for the reason why they are absent and let your seniors know.
the sec3s are currently at their PLTC now and we wish them all the best and persevere on!
as for the sec1s and sec2s, jiayou for your pre-camp preparation and hopefully, our expectations of you guys for the skills training camp will be met!

hi all!
today was our usual friday jihe. we had major year1 reshuffle too, whereby a couple of them are quite affected. let's hope they get used to their new patrols soon!
today, we had roll call before proceeding to coursework + skills training. year2s and year3s did their coursework in classrooms whereas the year1s had preparation for the upcoming skills training camp. the year1s were taught on how to do an emergency shelter for the first half of it.
Logistics:
1) 2 gadget pole, roughly zhong mu
2) 4 pegs
3) 4 bai sheng
4) 1 poncho
5) 1 metal mallet
steps of building an emergency shelter:
1) lay out the poncho, tie the hole meant for the positioning of the head
2) prepare 4 pegs + bai sheng at the four corners
3) tie 8-figure knot using the bai sheng to each corner of the poncho
4) align the bai sheng in a way 2 alternate and opposite corners form a straight line, and preferable the angle is 45degrees.
5) knock in the pegs at the four corners after you've found the correct angles of the baisheng
6) knock the pegs using a metal mallet 45 degrees inwards (end of pegs facing the poncho) and work best when the pegs are about 2/3 into the ground
7) tie the bai sheng loosely to the four pegs at four corners
8) slot in the 2 gadget wood either in the middle of the poncho / at one end of the poncho
9) adjust tightness of bai sheng at the 4 corners to achieve stability of the gadget wood
10) tuck in the ends of the bai sheng
pointers to take note to build a good emergency shelter:
1) the strings at the four end should be align, forming 2 straight lines and a cross in the middle of the poncho, the angles obtained will be 45 degrees.
2) product - poncho should not sag and the gadget poles should stand upright
3) product should be stable and can withstand strong rain/wind
4) since it is an EMERGENCY shelter, the last thing to do is to tuck in the ends of the bai sheng
5) make sure pegs are knocked in at correct angles and are anchored deep enough to allow shelter to be stable
6) do not use force to slot in the gadget pole in case the poncho tears, loosen the strings instead
the year1s are relatively fast-learners and built rather stable emergency shelters. however, they need to work hard on timing-wise, improve their sense of urgency, improve their consistency of bao-shi-ing, and enthuciasm (attitude wise)
we then proceeded on to basic first aid- introduction to first aid kit, tying of large arm sling, tying of donut. the year2s did kitchen dresser whereas the year3s worked on the patrol flags for skills training.
we had PT for the last hour before dismissal.
