Hi Guides!
We will be continuing on with our ATC journey!
The overall storyline for day 2 is as follows:
Hello Trainees, welcome to day 2 of ATC’20. Listen carefully as you may find clues that will benefit you. In part 1, you have successfully found and boarded Spaceship Christine. 3, 2, 1, blast off! Soaring through the Milky Way, you and your crewmates do your best to stay alive and search for safety. Unknowingly, some of the Infected are disguised, hiding their murderous intent. As they creep up on you, you realise how important trust is while working with your teammates. Oh no! Suddenly, as you travel further from Earth, a meteor collides with Spaceship Christine and sends it off track. The pilot loses control, a loud siren starts ringing and an error message flashes on each screen. Panic consumes your crew and the ship crashes forcefully onto a nearby planet. Lucky for you, an engineer aboard Christine volunteers to help mend the ship, but he needs at least a day. In the meantime, you and your crewmates have to work together to survive a night on the foreign planet. Stepping onto the sandy surface of the Red Planet, you will face unpredictable and difficult challenges. Overcome these while completing your tasks and your team will manage to continue your venture in space. Fail, and your fate will be decided by the deceiving impostors.
Kitchen Shelter (Group 1)
On Mars, you realise you will need a shelter to protect your logistics, belongings and crew mates. This shelter will shield you from any possible dangers and prevent you from getting hurt. On this planet, you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. The unprecedented environment may pose threats to your survival. But you know you can trust your instinct. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Shelter, a standard structure you are familiar with to benefit your team.
Reflection from a Year 1
As it was my first time building the Kitchen Shelter, I did not really know what to do and was a bit confused in the beginning which led to a waste of time too. Although I really wanted to see the completed kitchen shelter, I think not completing it was also part of the learning experience. It made me truly understand the importance of urgency and being efficient in everything. I also learnt that though we need to be quick, doing it well is also of utmost importance. If we do not do it well, it would just backfire on us eventually and waste even more time, defeating the purpose. I hope that in future, we would be able to work faster to complete the entire structure in time.
Reflection from a Year 2
We went to D Area to build a Kitchen Shelter. We had to collect the logistics from backstore and teach the Year 1s about how to build a Kitchen shelter. This was the first time we would be building a Kitchen Shelter this year and it was also the Year 1s' first time building it. Due to this, I feel that we did not perform as well and did not manage to properly set up the Kitchen Shelter. I feel that throughout the entire time that we were building the shelter, all the patrols could have had a better sense of urgency and took better care of our logistics as quite a few of our stuff got kapped and we kept overrunning. I feel that even though we did not manage to finish our structure, it was a valuable experience as it allowed the year ones to try out building a kitchen shelter and understanding how to build one. It also allowed us to refresh on our skills and step up more to lead the patrol.
Kitchen Table (Group 2)
On Mars, you realise you will need a structure to hold your logistics, belongings and seat your crew mates. This shelter will serve as a place for you to rest and recharge, to prepare yourself for the upcoming battles. On this planet, you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. The unprecedented environment may pose threats to your survival. But you know that you can trust your instinct. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Table, a standard structure you are familiar with to benefit your team.
Reflection from a Year 1
During this ATC session, we built a Kitchen Table. From this experience, I believe that we have improved a little on the speed from the previous ATC session, but we, as a 团 and a patrol can continue to work even faster and have a better sense of urgency. We could have also improved on the use of manpower. Since my patrol may have more manpower than the other 2 patrols, we can either help the others or proactively ask the Year 2s on what to do. Adding on, we should have been more aware when the Year 3s kapped our logistics or manpower away and immediately ask for them back. I hope that we will take note of these and improve in the following ATC sessions as well as in future.
Reflection from a Year 2
When we started building the Kitchen Table, we built the tripod faster than usual and I feel that it is a good improvement from the last time we tied a tripod. However, when it came to the 顶脚s, we had to re-measure over and over again as we did not support the structure properly and the 木 kept moving. We wasted more than half the time trying to measure the height of the ding jiaos. We had more manpower than other patrols that day but failed to allocate them wisely and was even slower than other patrols at one point. Due to the lack of sense of urgency, we were unable to complete the Kitchen Table although we were given time extension many times. Some lashes were also very loose and we had to 重抽 them, wasting even more time. Cheering and 报时 was also inconsistent and there were a few people who were doing nothing but still failed to cheer or 报时. While we were busy trying to tie our lashes, we did not keep an eye on our logistics and they were taken by the seniors. Logistics are important for us to be able to complete the whole structure. Overall, we should learn to take care of our logistics and learn how to allocate our manpower properly in order to complete the structure during the time limit. We should also revise our lashes and try to 报时 and cheer more frequently.
After building your structure, you wander the planet looking for useful resources to sustain yourselves during your stay and you and your crewmates happen to chance upon a couple of challenges. Aliens and the Impostors threaten your survival and combating them with your wits and physical ability is the only way out. Remember, be prepared for any possible challenge and you will definitely be able to come out victorious!
Station 1: Photo-taking
In the course of your research, you manage to find out that the infected do not show up in pictures as how they appear, instead in their true form. In order to prove all of you are healthy and normal, you have to go through a series of photo tests. Your task is to choose and recreate the photos, but here’s the twist, recreate these photos while keeping an arms length away from each other.
Reflection from a Year 1
The photo taking station was the first station of the station games played during the
second half of the 集合. Since our Patrol was Patrol four, the sequence of our tations was 2, 3, 4, 1, thus this station was our last one. During this station, we picked out many photos of a wide variety. We had a blast imitating the photos found in the paper bag, however some were quite challenging. For example, some of our photos chosen were aerial shots so we had to
perfect the timing and positions in the air. With the help of our Year 2 seniors and the Year 3 station masters, we were able to overcome these challenges and successfully took many pictures together as a patrol. Even though we might not have gotten the most photos taken, we still felt that this station was still very fulfilling and gave us a chance to bond as a patrol.
Reflection from a Year 2
This photo-taking station was very meaningful as we had learnt some skills from it. Firstly, teamwork is essential as everyone has to cooperate together as one in order to recreate the given picture. This is because in the pictures, there are always more than one person. Hence, just with one person's effort to pose, we will not be able to completely re-enact the picture. Secondly, in a team, it is important for one person to step up to lead as she will be able to see the bigger picture and direct the team better, increasing our efficiency. Lastly, it is also crucial to have effective communication within the team as this will help us clarify any of our doubts if we have. Overall, this activity was very fun for us to complete as a team as we got to do different types of poses we have never done before!
Station 2: Tic Tac Toe Game
While venturing on Mars, you unknowingly stumbled into the alien’s territory which made the aliens fuming mad. Oh no! The aliens have kidnapped half your crewmates. Your crewmates have been brainwashed by the aliens and now act and think like them. Crewmates, the people in the back row, your task is to win the aliens to get your crewmates. Aliens, your task is to defeat the crewmates and destroy humanity. Accuracy, speed and most importantly teamwork will help you succeed in this game. Good luck, you have 7 minutes to try to take down your opponents. So you will be competing amongst yourselves. The group who forms a straight line with all 3 of your objects first win. You are to complete an allocated PT, before you can run to the tic tac toe to move your group’s string. Throughout the game, you are only allowed to move your own objects, and every patrol member that runs to the tic tac toe must move one of your objects once.
Reflection from a Year 1
The station where we did the Tic Tac Toe was really fun, especially when we had to compete against each other which made it more competitive and made us try hard enough to win. The storyline in the station was also really interesting and cool. It was great that occasionally swapped teammates which gives each of us a chance to team up with one another and have an opportunity to work with different people in our patrol. It was also a good game to bond as we needed to think of strategies to win the game. At the same time, we were able to do some physical training to train our stamina. We must also use our brain to think of how to block the opponent from winning and how to win the opponent. It was an amazing and super fun game. I hope we get to play that again another time.
Reflection from a Year 2
The Tic Tac Toe was very interesting as it was a very fresh game we have never played before. This activity required us to complete various types of Physical Training together as a team. This station tested our knowledge of the types of Physical Training we usually do during 集合 such as burpees and jumping jacks. It is essential to know our standard Physical Training well so that we are able to execute them well without injuring ourselves and building up our fitness at the same time. This activity was very fun too as we got the chance to compete within our patrol, trying to execute the Physical Training as fast as possible in order to win the game. Other than doing Physical Training, we also managed to play Tic Tac Toe in a different way, testing both our speed and quick thinking on the spot!
Station 3: Physical activity
In order to combat the aliens and the aggressive impostors, physical training is required to build up your immunity system and physical strength. At the same time, you will learn to persevere and strengthen yourself mentally. Succeed and you will have a larger chance of saving humanity and winning.
Reflection from a Year 1
Physical activity was very fun and enjoyable. We followed the workout shown and tried our best to follow along. Some of our Year 3 seniors also did it with us! I think it was a wonderful time for us as we could relax but train our physical strength at the same time. We also had a fun time laughing at some very funny moves. Although the workout was quite tiring but our enthusiasm did not fade which was very nice. We also got to stretch our muscles at this station, help improve our body coordination and also be ourselves. However, I think we could have cheered more and also 报时 more often during the activity and not depend on the Year 2s to do it. Overall, we had a happy time following the workout together. Having this type of physical activity in the future will be very cool too.
Reflection from a Year 2
For a part of this 集合, we had station games. One of the stations is on physical activity and it is quite unique. Instead of doing the usual Physical Training, we were told to follow a dance workout video. Initially when we just started, all of us simply stood on the spot watching the video, and barely moved. We were not used to it and felt quite awkward. However, after a while, we became more enthusiastic doing the activity. All of us tried our very best to follow and copy the video. There was lots of fun and laughter. Through this, we realised that when we participate more actively, we would be able to create a more vibrant environment that we can enjoy. Our patrol also cheered together as one and 报时 frequently. One thing that our patrol can improve on is probably to have the courage to try new things. In conclusion, this activity has allowed us to learn and have a great time together.
Station 4: Escape Room
You and your fellow patrol members were wandering around Mars in search for available food sources. You happen to chance upon an abandoned convenience store. Oh no! Unfortunately, the Impostor sabotaged the security system and trapped your crew in a convenience store. While she was locking the door, you grabbed a piece of paper from her pocket, hoping it was a clue which could help you escape. Turns out, it was her grocery list. The Impostor was so frustrated that he left by the drainage system and vented back home. This gives you time to solve the puzzle and get out.
Reflection from a Year 1
The escape room station in station games that we did was very interesting. We, the Year 1s, had the chance to try using the guides code to solve the puzzle for the first time. I think that the station also made use of our observation skills as we had to keep an eye out for the post-its that we were told to find at the beginning of the station. Apart from that, I feel the activity required us to think critically to piece together the various clues, for example the sum of the two 3-digit numbers we managed to figure out to get the correct code. However, I also feel that on a more personal part, I could have cheered more without encouragement from my Year 3 seniors first. Overall, it was enjoyable to work together to solve the various puzzles to figure out the code to get out of the escape room.
Reflection from a Year 2
For the escape room station during station games, our patrol was tasked to find a few post-its and envelopes which would need to be solved to get the code. Initially, we took a long time to find the post-its around the classroom as some were hidden between tables and we did not think to look there. However, we managed to speed up the process by allocating our manpower more efficiently with some people deciphering the Guides code and the rest looking for the remaining post-its. In the end, we managed to find everything required after a few hints from the station ICs and solved the codes. From this station, I learnt that we should always leave no stone unturned and also learnt the importance of allocating manpower such that the process is sped up.
Continuation of storyline for the next ATC session:
