集合, 20th September

Hi Guides!

For 集合 yesterday, we had Initiatives! Coy 1 and Coy 2 split up into two groups as we were learning different things. In Coy 1, P1 taught them how to make wind chimes!

In addition, they learnt how many a interesting things about the history of wind chimes and their uses:

  • in Ancient Rome, they were used as a symbol of good fortune and a charm against evil
  • countries in Asia, such as China and Japan, hang them around for good luck
Here's how to make your very own windchime

Meanwhile, P7 taught Coy 2 how to make boxes out of ice cream sticks.

After that, we learnt how to tie ribbons using forks. Although it looked confusing initially, practice makes perfect and we soon got the hang of it. Here's how to make a ribbon:

To end it off, we had a ribbon tying competition! Each patrol sent out 3 members to compete against other patrols to tie 3 ribbons, which would be judged based on speed of tying and neatness, in a relay race. Although there was no clear winner, what was clear is that everyone had an enjoyable time learning new rafts and bonding with their patrol mates.:)

Guiders' Day 2013, 5th Aug

Hey Guides!

5th August was Teachers' Day Celebrations. As the Guiders had put in much effort in and showered us with care and concern, we organised a small celebration for them. Hence, we 集合-ed at 0720 to celebrate Guiders' Day. The YALs (Young Adult Leaders, who are the Year 5s and 6s) and some Year 4s came as well! While waiting for the Guiders to arrive, we blew balloons and prepared the necessary logistics, such as the cake, presents and poppers.

Finally the Guiders came! After giving them the presents, which were scrapbooks made by the various levels, and cake, we sang a few songs before clearing up and leaving for flag-raising.

Enjoy the September holidays everyone, and take the time to rest and revise your work!:)

Before P4 and P5 started baking, they leanrt some interesting facts about the food they were going to prepared.

Brownies...
originated from the US at the end of the 19th century
- were popularised by the US and Canada at the first half of the century
- served with ice cream, whipped cream and marzipan

Pancakes...
- also known as a hotcake or flapjack

- it's said it originated in Olney when a housewife was so busy making pancakes that she forgot time. When she heard the church bells ringing, she ran out of her house, still carrying her pan and pancake!

Here are the recipes for those who want to try them at home:D
