19th April Guides Activities

Hi Guides!:)

On 19th April, Friday, we had our weekly Guides Activities!:D For 19th April, most Year 2s were involved in Speech Day rehearsal, so we had Patrol Activity (PA) mostly with the Year 3s and Year 1s.

For this PA, every patrol had different activities as we had to prepare our Year 3s for their upcoming PLTC, so it depended on what each patrol still needed to learn or revise! :D Some of the activities we had were Firelighting, Camp Gadgets, Pioneering, Inspection, Outdoor Cooking, etc.

Next week is the Common Test week, so there will be no Guides Activities :( Jiayou for your upcoming CTs! :)

12th April UG Day!

Hi Guides!:D

On 12th April, we had our long-awaited UG Day'13!!:D UG stands for Uniformed Groups, which is a category of CCA in DHS. Basically, UG Day is a day for all members of Uniformed Groups to come together and bond inter-CCA.

Before 12th April, we had a parade on 11th April, Thursday, in our respective CCA uniforms. Although it was originally meant to be in the parade square, it rained:( So we formed our contingents in the Hall instead. Despite the rain, we did the best we could and took a group photo afterwards:D

On 12th April, Friday, all UGs participated together in mass activities to promote interaction!:)

UG Day'13 had three main activities: Mass Dance, Game, and Dinner!:D

Before UG Day, all members from UG were mixed and split randomly into 'nations'. All the activities we had were done in our nations, with the exception of the Game:)

At the start of the activity, we had Ice Breakers and Mass Dance! At the parade square, we danced to 'Live While We're Young' by One Direction~:D

After the Mass Dance, we played a game which was inspired by the Korean variety show, Running Man! :D:D:D In this Game, the Year 1s were the 'Kings/Queens', the Year 2s the 'Guards', and the Year 3s the 'Rebels'.

The Year 2s of a nation were supposed to find and protect the Year 1s of another nation, while the Year 3s tried to 'kill' them. They were allowed to run around in the area around Block F and G. The objective of the game was to get as many points as possible for your nation, by 'killing' as many Year 1s and Year 2s from the nation you were pitted against.

The Kings/Queens were released into the 'arena' first, giving them time to hide and strategize. 15minutes later, the Guards were then released to find their assigned Year 1s. After another 15minutes, the Rebels were released, and chaos ensued:D

After playing the Game for 1.5 hours, we then gathered back at the parade square for another round of Mass Dance!:O while dinner was prepared. We also had a prize presentation to reward the nations who emerged at the top during the Game. Afterwards, we went into the canteen and sat accordingly to our nations to have potluck+dinner(catered finger food):)

Afterwards, we were dismissed:] Overall, UG Day was quite fun this year and we hope everyone enjoyed the activities and got to know someone else from another UG~!

6th April Wide Games (hike)!:D

Hi Guides!:D

On 6th April, Saturday, we had a Guides activity which was Wide Games, or otherwise known more familiarly as hike! :) Due to the 4 Schools Combined Sports Meet on Friday, there were no Guides activities on Friday, so we had one on Saturday:D

Wide Games is defined as games played over a wide area, which was Fort Canning Park and Central at Clarke Quay. For the first 2 hours, we walked around Fort Canning Park to complete questions and activities regarding the history of the place, then afterwards we went to Central for the urban section of the activity.

Before the activity, each patrol was given booklets containing information about the area and the questions and activities they had to complete. The tourist attractions which held the answers were printed in Guides Code and we had to decipher the code in order to get to the locations:D After a short briefing, we were then given free rein of the place and embarked on our quest!:)

Fort Canning is a place with a rich history in Singapore. In olden times, Fort Canning was known as 'Forbidden Hill', a place where the Malay royal family and the Sultan (king-ruler of Temasek, an old name for Singapore) lived. Now, in modern times, Fort Canning remains to be a historical landmark for remembrance to many Singaporeans.

During the 2 hours, our Guides walked around Fort Canning to visit various tourist attractions of the place to answer questions, such as the Spice Garden and Keramats. Many of the questions had answers which could be found in the information signboards. Some other components to be completed during the walk was First-Aid and Trekking Signs. During the walk itself, we could also complete bonus activties such as taking a jumpshot with a Heritage Tree, or spotting certain interesting sculptures along the journey to the tourist attractions!:D

After completing as many tasks as possible in 2 hours at Fort Canning, we then walked to the Central, a shopping centre located at Clarke Quay. It made for a nice transition from the rural to urban section of the activity!

There were also general bonus questions(riddles) for the duration of the entire activity, and we had to be witty enough to answer them! For example, a question was "What is the tallest building in the world?" to which the answer was "Library (many stories)". :]

At Central, we had to complete tasks which were located throughout all 5 levels of the entire mall, such as buying enough bread for everyone in the patrol using $8 at SwissBake, or calculating the cheapest treatment for fever, a fractured ankle and head injury at Watsons. :O

After 1 hour completing the urban section of the activity, we gathered outside to listen to the results of the activity, based on the total amount of questions answered correctly. We were then rewarded with prizes for our efforts!:D

Overall, the activity on 6th April was quite fun for everyone!:D More was learnt about Singapore's cultural history, and the activities also bonded us more as a patrol:) This activity also gave us a chance to learn more outside of normal Guides skills:D

Next week's activity is UG Day!:) More information will be posted here next week~:D
