ATC Pre- Camp Inspection, 6th November

Hi Guides!

Pre- Camp inspection was held on 6th November. The purpose of this Pre- Camp Inspection was to ensure that the trainees' logistics were up to standard and that they had everything they would need for camp. Additionally, this was an opportunity for the Y2s to have a taste of leading their juniors so as to prepare them for the upcoming Annual Training Camp (ATC).

Firstly, the trainees were given time to mass change into their Guides Uniform as well as take all the necessary logistics. Afterwards, they were given time to go to their respective classrooms to layout all of their patrol logistics. Next, the counsellors from each patrol went to every patrol to grade their layouts. For mistakes, the trainees had to do some penalties which were sets of physical training.

Grading system:
P1: Attire
P2: Patrol Morale
P3: Standardization
P4: Rationale of patrol logistics
P5: Neatness
P6: Completeness

Lastly, the counsellors gave the trainees a debrief to mark the end of Pre- Camp Inspection. Hopefully, the trainees took home something from this activity, such as the importance of having a sense of urgency and the importance of the patrol logistics.

Reflections from a Year 2...
I think we did quite well memorising the layout as we managed to get the layout quite accurately. Also, I think that we should have memorised our rationales better and covered more in the rationale sheet. We only tried to memorise the rationales in the document, and we missed out many rationales which we were subsequently tested on. We also needed to better memorise our cheers and songs, and say/sing them louder because after all, we are proud of them. One thing we could have done as trainees would have been to run around the level and check that every patrol's layouts were identical, as well as wash our utensils, cooking equipment such as our woks, as we were to use it during ATC.

Reflections from a Year 2...
We had to mass change into our Guides Uniform and also bring the 配备 and styrofoam boxes with our patrol logistics from 团部. However, we exceeded the time limit given and 过时. Furthermore, We did not ask for any time extension. I now know that I have to communicate better among other patrols. I think my patrol did quite well for the inspection as everyone memorized the layout and although it was a flipped layout, everyone was able to stay calm and layout the logistics neatly. However, we did not take care of minor details such as whether the kettle handle was up instead of down, as well as whether the mealbags should be stacked up instead of laid out in neat rows where everyone's name can be seen. Also, we did not communicate properly with the other patrols, so small details like whether to layout the toilet roll in a plastic bag or not were not taken care of and were not standardized. We had extra time to send people out to make sure everybody had the same layout but we did not do it often. This Pre-camp inspection also helped to build up our patrol morale as we get to try out our newly created patrol cheers and songs.

Reflections from a Year 1...
I was not sure what the Pre-camp inspection is about before so I was not sure what to do. However I could have memorised the layout better as nobody noticed that two of the tables during the inspection had been placed wrongly. It also helped to remind us of the discipline and responsibilities we must have during ATC. This gave an important reminder to do better and not repeat the same mistakes the next year when I am a Year 2 with more responsibilities, including the responsibility of helping my juniors.

Reflections from a Year 1...
During the Pre-camp inspection, I felt very nervous as our patrol was still rushing to finish our patrol logistics and some of us had not familiarized ourselves with our patrol songs and cheers. However, with teamwork and perseverance, we managed to solve the problems. I have also learnt how to push myself to the limit and believe that nothing is impossible as there were moments when I thought of giving up but as soon as I heard all the encouragements my patrol mates gave me, I decided to continue pushing on. Lastly, I feel that the most essential thing in the entire process is to be bonded as a patrol as we will be facing the obstacles together hence I believe that we can improve on our patrol morale in order to reach our destination.
