Hello fellow Guides!
This year’s Annual Training Camp’s (ATC) theme was OLYMPUS: May victory nurture us; May defeat nourish us. The tagline tells us not to fear failure, but instead embrace failure as a chance to learn and better our skills. No matter how many setbacks we encounter, we will not kick ourselves over it but instead use it as an opportunity to learn and improve ourselves. At the same time, when we succeed, we will be humble and continue to strive to maintain our standard for future victories.
The camp lasted over a span of 3 days from the 7th-9th of November at Camp Christine. The Year 3 counsellors had planned many activities for the trainees with the objective of training their hard skills: Gadgeting, First Aid Skills, Survival Skills, Orienteering and Outdoor Cooking, as well as their soft skills: Leadership, Communication, Teamwork, Perseverance and Resilience.

0.1 Pre- Camp Activity
A few weeks before the camp itself, the trainees were given a briefing on the proposals they had to complete, as well as the respective deadlines and requirements of each component. To summarise the details, the trainees had to submit drawings for their patrol logistics: Patrol Flag, Patrol Identity, Banner, Meal Bag, and make these items afterwards. They also had to submit proposals for their Camp Development, Outdoor Cooking, as well as Campfire so as to facilitate their planning and preparation for the camp.
After the briefing, trainees were given 45 minutes to build a cube that can fit 2 members using gadget poles. Inside the cube, they were instructed to use gadget poles to establish a route for a tennis ball to roll down from one corner on top to the corner at the bottom on the other side and into a cup. Through this, we hoped to improve both their hard skills and soft skills in preparation for ATC as well as to bond and allow the ATC patrol members to know each other better.
Reflection from a Year 2:
During Friday's 集合, we were presented with our new patrol allocations. It was another nerve wrecking experience as everyone was filled with trepidation at the thought of working with these people for the next few weeks. Thankfully, I was put in the same patrol as one of my patrol mates. We then had patrol corner so that we could familiarise ourselves with our new patrol mates. Next, we were tasked to build a cube using gadget poles, that contained a route which could transport a tennis ball from one end of the cube to the diagonally opposite side. However, the twist was that the route for the ball had to have 2 turns. This posed a challenge to us as it was not easy building turns out of gadget poles due to their inflexibility. We were also working in our ATC patrol thus we were rather awkward around one another. The Year 2s merely discussed among ourselves while the Year 1s just waited for us to give instructions. This led to the lack of communication within the patrol and we had to ask for time extensions multiple times. Furthermore, due to a lack of logistics, some of my patrol mates had to run around and ask for extra poles, which did not make our task any easier. The patrol morale was also rather low as we had not bonded much yet thus most of us were reluctant to cheer. Overall, I felt that this activity would have gone more smoothly if the Year 2s had involved the Year 1s and given clear instructions. On the Year 1s’ part, I feel that they should have practised their lashes.
With ATC coming up, I feel slightly nervous as I know that it would be an arduous journey. I have also yet to warm up to my juniors so I am afraid that I would be unable to connect with them and make the camp a less awkward experience. I have never been an extraordinary leader thus I feel worried that I might not be able to contribute much to my patrol. However, in my opinion, if I interact with my juniors more during camp preparation, I might be able to overcome this camp together with my patrol and leave with good memories.
0.2 Camp Preparation
During the weeks leading up to the camp, the trainees carried out their respective preparations such as sending their proposals, and making their patrol logistics. Here are some of the reflections from the Year 2s about their thoughts and feelings regarding the camp preparations!
Reflection from a Year 2:
The camp preparation was no doubt one of the most stressful parts of ATC, yet I’m glad that I learnt a lot of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, perseverance and resilience from it. For the patrol logistics, we needed to sit down and think about whether our proposal would be sound and easy to execute when being made. This required careful planning instead of rushing to complete the proposal. As the submission dates of proposals were all generally back-to- back, it was definitely stressful but we learnt the importance of communicating with each other and helping each other out not just as a patrol, but as a 团, especially in terms of standardisation. The packing of styrofoam box and 配备 was slightly rushed as our patrol was low on manpower but when other Year 2s from other patrols came to help out, I was thankful and knew that we would pull through any obstacles that came our way as teamwork makes the dream work.
0.3 Pre-Camp Inspection
On the 4th of November, the Pre-Camp Inspection was held to ensure that the trainees had all the logistics they needed for ATC. It was also to build up inter patrol and inter-batch skills and communication. There were also physical training (PT) segments that they had to carry out as forfeits if they were lacking in a particular component.
The trainees were given 10 minutes to mass change into their guides uniform and retrieve all their logistics from 团部. Afterwards, each patrol had to go to six classrooms respectively and they were given another 10 minutes to lay out their logistics based on the inspection layout that they had drawn and been approved of. Counsellors then went around grading on different aspects such as attire, patrol morale, standardisation, rationale of patrol logistics, neatness as well as completeness. Respective PT items were then to be completed by the patrol depending on their performance.
Here is a reflection from a Year 2:
I felt really unprepared for Pre-Camp Inspection as I did not manage to memorise the whole inspection layout, thus I could not help out much during the inspection. The classroom we were assigned to just so happened to be a flipped classroom too and we only realised that halfway through arranging our logistics, so we had to rearrange everything, which resulted in time wastage which could have been avoided if we had observed our surroundings more thoroughly. We also tried our best to keep the patrol morale high through cheers and songs. Although we weren't familiar with every song and cheer, we still cheered and encouraged each other, which helped to boost our confidence and determination too. The Year 1s really tried their best to cheer whenever possible and I think that is quite commendable, as they helped the us to lighten the burden on our shoulders. One area I think we could have done better on was the standardisation. A few patrols were missing a few items which really affected the standardisation. Furthermore, we did not cross check with other patrols, hence our overall standardisation was greatly compromised. I think our standardisation could have been done better if we had worked together as 6 patrols instead of only working as individual patrols. Overall, the Pre-Camp Inspection was still rather fun and I'm glad to have spent quality time with my patrol mates and getting to know them better.
1.0 Day One
On the 7th of November, the trainees and counsellors 集合-ed at the school’s foyers with their personal logistics and patrol logistics from 团部. After the administrative matters were settled, everyone then gathered in their respective patrols for goal setting. Meanwhile, the logistics were loaded onto the truck patrol by patrol. After the goals were set and the logistics were finally loaded onto the truck, both trainees and counsellors then embarked on a 1 hour ride to Camp Christine. When everyone reached the campsite, we immediately unloaded the logistics and started the first activity!
1.1 Inspection
Once everyone was settled down, it was time for the first activity —inspection of personal logistics. The trainees were given 8 minutes to mass change and retrieve their personal belongings, and gather back in Olave Hall. After which, they were given 5 minutes to lay out their personal belongings according to the layout given to them by the ICs, with a maximum time extension of 2 minutes. If the trainees are still not able to finish after the time extension, they would still have to 集合 to the patrol counsellors. After the logistics are laid out, trainees would then be graded on attire, patrol morale, standardisation, neatness and completeness.
1.2 Camp Development Parts 1 and 2
Written below is the list of items which had to be built during the allocated Camp D timings.

However, the unpredictable weather caused a change of plans. Initially, the plan was for the trainees to set up their Camp Christine first, but due to the rain, they built their arthurless gadgets first, which were the shoe-rack, baggage rack and meaningful improvement. After the rain stopped, the trainees went on to build their emergency shelter, flagpole and banner. For Part 2, the trainees finished up whatever they had planned to finish for Day 1, inclusive of the Camp Christine Tent. However, due to a lack of time, the 8-men tent was committed from the schedule, hence none of the patrols set up the 8-men tent in the end.
Thoughts from a Year 2:
One main takeaway for me from Camp Development is to make full use of manpower you have. The Year 2s were often rushed off their feet trying to stay on task even though most of the Year 1s were free to help. From this, I feel that as Year 2s we should have done a better job in communicating with them and telling them what to do. However, on the Year 1s’ part, they could have also taken the initiative in asking the Year 2s what they could help with at that moment.
1.3 Physical Training
After Camp Development, the trainees had Physical Training (PT) in the evening where their physical and mental stamina was put to the test. This component was also meant to improve teamwork and communication within the patrol members. 4 stations were set up at various locations, and patrols were paired up before going to the stations in rotational order.
This is how the story goes:
You realise that you are not strong enough to defeat the unknown enemy, and thus have to train up in preparation for the battle that lies ahead.
Station 1:
2 红木 will be tied together at each end and 3 loops will be attached to the 木 using 麻绳. Each patrol will be split into 2 groups and 1 group of trainees are required to do leg raise with the 红木s placed on top of the bottom of their shoe while the other group of trainees are required to do 站马 with the 红木s placed on top of their laps. The position of trainees will alternate and the order is as follows: trainee doing 站马, trainee doing leg raise and the order continues. The trainees will rotate between 站马 and leg raise every 5 minutes.
Station 2: Relay Race
Trainees will jump in a sack (麻布袋) to the halfway mark, which will be marked out on the ground with the masking tape. Then, they will do 20 jumping jacks and hop to the end, where they will jump rope 15 times using the 麻绳. They will hop back to the halfway mark and do 20 buddha claps before jumping in the sack again all the way to the starting point. The next trainee in line will then take over and trainees are to continue until the time is up.
Station 3:
Circuit PT of crab-walk up the first part of the ramp, 30 dips on the middle section of the ramp and then lunge up the rest of the ramp. Afterwards, trainees will proceed to plank for 45 seconds.
Station 4:
Trainees are required to do suicide run with personal logistics around the perimeter of the Olave Hall, excluding their water bottle and their guides uniform. They will run in the order of P1 and the front to P6 at the back, and every time a whistle is blown the patrol from the back runs to the front of the group.
Reflection from a Year 2:
PT was rather fun and we learned a new type of PT called dips. Everyone really put in effort to 报时 and cheer once every few seconds so it was quite enjoyable and we got to bond as 2 patrols. However, we had to push ourselves towards our limits for the last station. We aimed to run 40 laps in the time limit of 15 minutes and we were looking forward to completing this PT. However, at around our 20th lap, we had to restart due to the lack in volume when counting the number of laps that we had ran so far. We felt really distressed but we decided to push ourselves to not disappoint our counsellors. We were determined to complete our PT on a good note. Our counsellors also started cheering us on and we felt encouraged to complete what we had aimed to do. Everyone started to 报时 more constantly and cheer to keep the company morale up. In the end, we found out that, including our first try of the suicide run, we had ran 80 rounds, which was 2 times of what we had originally wanted to achieve. I felt really glad that we had tried our best and ended up achieving so much more then what we had expected.
1.4 Night Games
Afterwards, the night games commenced. Night games are a series of games planned by the counsellors, which is a little tweak from what we normally do during a typical 集合. The objective of this activity is to allow the trainees to work together as a patrol and get through difficult situations, instil courage in the trainees to get through the station no matter how scary it may be, and to bond the trainees as a patrol, as well as a company. The trainees 集合-ed in the Olave Hall and watched a short skit played out by 2 counsellors, before they were told to leave the venue as fast as possible. After the briefing, each patrol would visit 6 stations, followed by a mass station.
Here is the main storyline:
10 billion years ago, Hades and his brothers defeated the Titans, and while his brothers lived as Gods and received fame and glory, he was given the responsibility of the Underworld, where both men and God hated him. In present day, both Hades and Charon have come together to plot a revenge for the unfair treatment Hades had received in the past. They intend to capture Apollo, the God of Music, and take away all the merry in this world. However, a group of humans had been tasked to save Apollo from them. Will the trainees be able to surpass all obstacles and successfully save their world from the clutches of Hades and Charon?
Station 1: The Fates
In this station, the trainees have just entered a room with two supernatural beings holding a string each. These strings represent the string of life, and the trainees will have to find their own string so as to avoid dying at the hands of these beings - the Fates.

Station 2: Tartarus

But there’s… There’s a problem. Tartarus won’t let you off so easily.

HAHAHA. You think you can leave so easily?

Station 3: The Power of Nyx
Act 3.1
Blind Girl:
(laughs innocently)

My task today will be to envelope you into the dark night, where even your loudest and most excruciating screams cannot be heard.
Blind Girl:

The riddle will give you the instructions on how to get out, in which you will instruct your blindfolded friends on how to leave this place.

Mission:
The patrol will have to find clues around the area, hidden on top or underneath boxes. Some of these clues will be useful to instructing the patrol on how to get out, while others will be used as a distraction. The clue will form a poem which will instruct the patrol on how to leave the area.
The guides code at the side of each clue will be used to determine whether the clue is useful to the patrols’ cause.
Act 3.2 (When the patrol succeeds)

No! How could you? How is it possible that you managed to escape from my clutches?
This was my most complicated trick yet!

Station 4: Appearance VS Reality
There will be 4 large cups, labelled from 1 to 4. Stick a riddle under one of the small cups, stack them and put them under cup labelled 2. When laying out cups(large) or mixing around cups, do not allow the trainee to see the labels. Only allow the trainees to see the labels when they are unable to choose the correct cup (large) on the first try and remember to give them clue 1. When they choose the correct cup (large), lay out the small cups and allow them to choose. They have two attempts at choosing. Should they not be able to choose the correct cup, they will not get the puzzle piece. If they choose the correct small cup but are unable to guess the riddle, they will not get the puzzle piece either.

My children, welcome to the court of death, where justice is uphold and everyone gets their just deserts. Today your task will be to judge this case. You may refer to the Book of Law and administer the punishments upon them as you deem fit.
However, before I give you the permission to read this sacred book, you will have to convince me to lend it to you by solving this riddle. Not just anyone is allowed to read the Book of Law.

Hello there, welcome to the fields of Asphodel, where souls roam around aimlessly for all eternity.
I am persephone, the Goddess of Spring but trapped in this dark dead place I guess the fields are the only place I can feel a little more alive. Well I’d really love if the field was less crowded with these souls and since you’re here perhaps you could help me.
I will grant you one favour should you be able to complete this task.

Here is how to complete the task: Each person is to stand in a box. Each person is given a turn to move, however if your box has a ‘trapped soul’, you will not be able to move until you have ‘freed the soul’. .During the task, I will be throwing flowers of life to you to save the souls. These flowers will enable you to free a soul. You are to catch the flowers. Each person is to be holding at least one hand of another person throughout this task.

Minesweeper game:
Raffia string will be laid on the ground to form the mine. Each patrol member is to be in a mine square at all points of time and will only be allowed to move from their squares if their square is empty or they have freed the spirit within it. The patrol is to take turns moving forward via the squares and their aim is to reach across whilst still holding hands. Flowers will be thrown at the trainees during the activity to allow them to ‘free’ the trapped souls. When catching the flowers, trainees must ensure that they are still holding at least one other person’s hand or they will automatically be kupped off the minefield.

Mass Game
ICs will start by giving a briefing on the mass game, while still in character. The trainees are tasked to look for the object that is shown on the puzzle pieces. This will test the company’s communication skills, as well as teamwork. This station is deliberately chaotic so that people would be encouraged to step up and lead the 团 in splitting of manpower etc

Act 7.2 (Last Act) (When the trainees succeed)
Hades:
Well trainees, hopefully you’ve gotten back all your patrol members in one piece. Of course if you didn’t they shall stay here with me forever in the underworld. Honestly a little PT isn’t a huge price to pay to get your patrol members back, is it? Besides you’re supposed to take care of each other and getting kupped should not be happening if you take good enough care right? Anyways to end off on a good note, good job for making in through the underworld and we hope you enjoyed night games!
And that marked the ending of the night games. Here are some thoughts about the activity from a Year 2:
Before night games started, we were worried that our juniors may scream or speak when they were not supposed to, as some of them are afraid of the dark. On top of that, they were quite vocal. Thankfully, during the night games, I was relieved to find that none of them screamed after all. I guess the night games did cause my adrenalin levels to go up, as the stations had eerie settings. Although most of us were unfamiliar with Greek mythology, we were relieved that a few of our Year 1s were quite interested in it due to Percy Jackson. They helped us immensely in the stations where we had to have fine, precise knowledge about the topic, such as in the station where we had to name a goddess' name from her description. Overall, I believe that the night games brought us closer as a patrol, not only amongst the batches, but also between the Year 2s and Year 1s. Each station for night games was interesting, and I am grateful that our seniors have put in so much effort to plan this for us, not only simply for the night games, but for the whole ATC camp this year.
2.0 Day Two
The trainees had some morning Physical Training (PT) at 7am in the morning before having their breakfast. Then, they mass changed into their guides uniform and got ready for 升旗. After the 升旗 procedures were over, they patrols continued on with Part 3 of their Camp Development, before starting their Outdoor Cooking. Once all the trainees had finished their lunch, the Orientation Journey commenced. At night, the campfire was held till approximately 10pm.
2.1 Morning PT
The objective of getting the trainees to do PT once they wake up is to help them warm-up for the day ahead. The activity held during morning PT was captains ball. The patrols were split into 3 groups, namely: P1 and P2, P3 and P4, P5 and P6. The trainees will then play Captain’s Ball for 20 minutes and at every 5 minutes interval, a number would be called out and the trainees would have to perform the task assigned to the number. The trainees would have to complete the PT before continuing with the game.

This was a first for many of us as the previous ATC did not have morning PT. Yet it was actually pretty fun and engaging and was a right start to our day ahead. We were briefed beforehand on the PT that we had to do after 20 minutes (which would be called out by a number); meaning, we had to remember clearly what PT each number represented. During the game, we had to constantly cheer to keep our patrol morale high as well as to keep the energy of the overall game going. For my patrol, we constantly changed goalkeepers as we wanted as many people as possible to have a chance at being goalkeeper. We also learnt importance of strategising where to stand, etcetera. However, though it was a small and short activity, we learnt that it was not so much of winning but more of bonding as a patrol as well as other patrols.
2.2 升旗
After morning PT, the trainees were given some time to mass change and 集合 at the Brown Sea. Then, the guides marched into a horseshoe formation and stood at attention while the flag-raiser raised the company flag. After the Company Flag had been raised, the guides 集合-ed together again. Once everyone was ready, they were broken off to form horseshoe formations around their own patrol flagpole and raise their patrol flag. At the end of the procedure, it was time for Camp Development Part 3.
2.3 Camp Development Part 3
For Part 3 of the Camp Development, all patrols only built their Kitchen Shelter and Fire Alter before the end of the allocated time. However, as P1 and P2 had a malfunctioned canvas sheet, they had to build their fire alter under other patrols’ Kitchen Shelter.
Here is a reflection from a Year 2 about Part 3 of the Camp Development:
For me, Camp D Part 3 was one of the most challenging parts of ATC. P1 and P2’s canvas was extremely big, which is why our structure often toppled or was not stable enough. As a result, we took a lot of time and had to ask for a lot of time extensions. Through this activity, I realised that we were not communicating with the juniors at all as we were all busy trying to finish the task at hand. What I learnt is that we should try to communicate with the juniors more and listen to their inputs as well as everyone’s opinion is very valuable. Other than that, I also learnt to have more urgency. It was the lack of urgency which caused to not be able to build our structure properly, thus I feel that the most important takeaway is to do things quickly yet properly— making sure all our lashes are tight, yet tying them within the standard timing.
2.4 Outdoor Cooking
During the Camp Preparation days, the trainees had to brainstorm and come up with a staple dish, a vegetable and meat (side) dish as well as a dessert which linked to the theme ‘OLYMPUS’. The trainees are provided with ingredients such as chicken breast, eggs, mini marshmallows, oyster sauce, light soya sauce, salt, oil, pepper and sugar. They can decide on whether they would like to bring additional ingredients of their own, but each patrol will only have a budget of $10 and the ingredients have to be halal. They will then be asked to submit proposals of their ideas to ensure that all their dishes are feasible and can be completed within the given time frame with suitable rationales supporting each of the dishes they come up with.
This is the storyline:
Before setting off to find the Gods, you have to ensure that everyone has enough energy to last through all the quests you have to complete today. Therefore, you will have to come up with 3 dishes, a main dish, a side dish and a dessert that is related to the theme “Olympus”.
During the camp itself, trainees were given 1h 40minutes to follow the recipes which they have come up with during the days of the Camp Preparation. They were allowed to set up as many fires as they needed, but all fires would have to be started using kindlings only. The objective of this is to give the trainees an opportunity to cook outdoors with few resources, as well as to test the trainees’ fire-lighting skills. After cooking all 3 dishes, they would have to send a few patrol members to Paxlodge for grading.

Personally, I felt that OC was one of the most fun parts of ATC. Despite having to borrow space from P3 and P4’s Kitchen Shelter, I am glad to say that we still learnt to maximise our space and do things efficiently. However, we did face some difficulty in starting the fire, which led to the seniors having to step in to help us. I feel that we should have taken more ownership of our OC, after all, it was our camp where we are supposed to learn as much as we can and carry out the activities independently. At the end, I must say that I was quite proud and satisfied with our dishes – our hard work had paid off!
2.5 Obstacle Journey (OJ)
After the trainees had finished their meals, it was time for Orientation Journey, where the hard skills acquired during normal 集合 sessions were put to test. Not only that, it was meant to provide a platform for the Year 2s to truly step up and lead a patrol, so as to strengthen soft skills such as decision making, improvisation, clarity in instructions, etc. Finally, it was also to test guides on their sense of urgency and communication within the patrol and across the batch.
Before the start of the actual OJ, trainees will have to surrender their 配备s to the respective ICs who will place the 6 配备s around the campsite. Trainees will then be given 10 minutes to find all 6 配备s as well as solve for the locations for all the stations, which would be written in guides code on a piece of post it and placed in each 配备.
There will be a total of 7 stations for this OJ - 6 of which are to be completed as individual patrols, and 1 mass station at the end involving the entire 团, to emphasise the importance of teamwork and communication.
After completing each of the 6 stations, each patrol would receive a piece of paper if they scored above 12 points for any station. The paper would contain parts of a word which spell the location name “OLAVE HALL”. As a 团, trainees would have to solve the puzzle with all the clues they have obtained at the different OJ stations and find out the location for their mass station. They would have to work together as each patrol would receive different sets of letters, making up different parts of the location name. This would serve as a test for their communication across the two batches as well as creative thinking skills to realise what the clues represent.
After the mass station, they would then 集合 for a debrief that would be conducted by the station masters on what they observed about each patrol and the ICs for the overall debrief and storyline.
This is the storyline:
You are the hunters of the goddess, Artemis. Olympus is in chaos. Gods and Goddesses who are also her friends have gone missing. Artemis have lost her powers and is unable to find her friends while Zeus is having a hard time trying to calm the chaos within Olympus. It is up to you to find the missing Gods and Goddesses as Artemis’ loyal hunters. You have to venture around Olympus and search for clues to help you find the missing Gods and Goddesses, and the unknown enemy. However, there is a limited time of 3 hours to find the missing Gods and Goddesses before they can never be found again. At the end of your quest, you will finally face the unknown enemy who has wrecked havoc on Olympus. Good luck to all you hunters and hope that you succeed in finding the clues.
Station 1: Orienteering and Prioritisation
Storyline:
During your quest, you have met with 5 various crisis. You have to stop and stay for the night. Time is running out and night will fall before long. You have to ensure that you can survive through this night before you can continue on your quest in search for the missing Gods and Goddesses. Clues to where the missing Gods and Goddesses are held will be granted to you once you have made it through the night.
Part 1: With the bearings provided, trainees are to find 5 post-its within 5 minutes, each containing a scenario, which would be located around the staircase area outside Sangam.

Station 2: Pioneering and Survival Skills
Storyline:
As you continue on with your quest, you receive a message from zeus that there will be a flash flood coming your way. You realised that there is a tree nearby that allows at most half of your members to escape the flood, but you need to build something that allows you to elevate the other half of your members and all your logistics. Think fast and act fast. Good luck!
Instructions: Given 12 minutes, trainees are required to build a structure that can elevate their 配备 and at least half of their patrol members. At every 2.5 minute interval, one patrol member will come out to answer questions on survival skills.

Station 3: Minesweeper and Physical Training
Storyline:
On your quest to search, you cross through a narrow tunnel, which you have been previously warned by the other hunters that this tunnel was not as simple as it appears to be. Only one patrol member is able to cross the tunnel at a time. To cross over, you are required to correctly navigate your way through by choosing the correct boxes and answer a series of questions which would then enable you to continue on with your quest.
Instructions: The bottom left hand corner is the starting point. One patrol member would go through the minesweeper one grid at a time, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The rest of the patrol will be doing physical training circuits. Trainees are also required to transport all their logistics across the minesweeper. On every correct grid, they will have to answer a question correctly before they may proceed. However, if their answer is incorrect, there will be penalties. If they step on a bomb, you will return to their patrol to do physical training, and another patrol member will attempt the cross the minesweeper. The aim of the game is to reach the grid at the top right hand corner. Trainees have 20 minutes to get all their logistics and as many patrol members as possible across the minesweeper.

Station 4: Gas Room and First Aid
Storyline:
In the midst of your quest to search of clues, some of your patrol members are gotten injured and needs to be treated before you can continue on. To make things worse, your enemies are nearing the location you are at and you would have to move indoors to hide from them for the time being. The nearby gas room seems like a suitable place for you to do so, but that is only if you could turn off the gas switch before the time limit is up, causing you to show signs of the side effects of the gas. Work fast as time is not on your side.
Instructions: Trainees are given 15 minutes to treat 2 casualties and turn off the gas switch. In order to locate the gas switch, they are required to do some physical training and transport all the logistics that are taken from them out of the room first before the station masters give them the clue as to where the gas tap will be. After the gas tap is switched of, they are to carry all of their logistics inside the room and close all the doors before the time is up. Several obstacles will be set up to test the trainees’ ability to improvise based on the new situations given:
At 5 minutes interval, 2 patrol members would not be able to see (blindfolded).

Instructions: Trainees are given 18 minutes to build a structure to transport all their patrol logistics from one end of the restricted zone to the other. During the first 12 minutes, they are allowed to go to any part of the room to build their structure. Afterwards, the patrol would have to split into 2 groups. Each group would only be allowed to move about in allocated areas and no one would be allowed to stand on the restricted area. During the transportation of logistics, none of the logistics should touch the ground of the restricted area, otherwise the logistic would be considered to be unsuccessfully transported.

Continuing on your quest, you begin to feel hungry and has to consume food before you would have sufficient energy to continue. One of your scouting hunters have also sent you the message that wild animals are approaching you and hence you would also need a weapon to help you drive away these wild animals. Act fast before it is too late.
Instructions: Trainees are given 15 minutes to cook an egg, as well as tie a gadget that can enable to knock down metal cans. They are to 集合 after 15 minutes, where they would then be given 3 tries to knock down as many cans as possible.

Storyline:
Congratulations, all of you hunters collected all the clues. However, you realised you lost some of your clues and the others got stolen! Our best trackers have found out that they are near you. Quick, find all the clues and solve them before it’s too late!
Instructions: Trainees are given 7 minutes to find all their clues and solve them in time to find out their final destination.

Storyline:
It’s not over yet. You have to help Artemis find her friends back and as her loyal hunters, you are expected to fight for them. Therefore, you have to defeat the enemy and save her friends. Good luck!
Instructions: Trainees are now given 10 minutes to eliminate all the enemy by grabbing the tails from the counsellors. However, since the enemy were also quite strong, some of their patrol members are injured and handicapped. For each patrol, 1 member is only able to use one of her legs to move around while 2 members have to tie one of their legs to each other. Each counsellor also has two tails each so they would have to eliminate both in order to defeat them.

Congratulations! You have all worked hard and managed to defeat your enemy, save Artemis’ friends and brought peace to Olympus! All the gods are thankful for your hard work, sacrifices and efforts! All your blood, sweat and tears were worthwhile in the end!
And that marked the end of the OJ experience. Here is a reflection from a Year 2:
For OJ, our 配备 had been kupped for the first few stations. Thus, for the remaining stations, we were too focused on protecting it that we had neglected our patrol mates. We had asked a Y1 to take care of all the patrol belongings, while we tried to complete the station. However, we failed to keep in mind that they could be kupped by the counsellors, along with all our belongings. I feel that I could improve on giving instructions to everyone. I was pretty unclear on what had to be done to solve the station so everyone was just waiting for me to give instructions as the Patrol Leader of the station. This led to us wasting precious time. It also was not fair to the Y1 who had to take care of our belongings as she would be missing out and we weren't including her, which should not be the case. I feel that in future, I should ask the patrol for their opinions and improve out communication as we would be able to finish the activity faster if we worked as a team. Our patrol morale was initially low, as we were all tired and did not cheer frequently. However, subsequently, we started to enjoy the stations as we were all in it together and we urged one another to cheer. Overall, this OJ had enabled me to learn much and become a better senior to the Y1s.
2.6 Campfire
By nightfall, it was finally time for the campfire to commence, and all the guides and guiders took their seats. The songleaders then kicked start the campfire with the song “Campfire’s Burning”.
P1’s Storyline:
Atalanta is an ordinary girl with an ordinary life but wants to be extraordinary. In order to be extraordinary and welcomed into Olympus, Atalanta is given a task from Zeus: outrun the fastest man on Earth. Atalanta finds this almost impossible due to the world’s mentality those days that women were not capable of anything extraordinary. However, with the right people to provide help, and learning to believe and have faith in herself, she just might become even more than extraordinary.
P2’s Storyline:
Three children are fighting over who is better. Their Grandma tells them a story about The Trojan War. The Trojan war was one of Greek Mythology’s greatest legends. However, the Trojan War was started by three goddesses and caused by the rivalry between them. The story is about how the Trojan War was avoided if the three goddesses had worked together and overcome their differences.
P3’s Storyline:
During the campfire after dinner, Percy, Grover, Juniper, Rachel, Reyna, Artemis and one of her hunters decide to play truth or dare as they were bored. They drink a potion so that if they lie during a truth, they will suddenly make a weird face to let the others know that they lied. When Percy was asked to answer a truth, he forgot that he drank the lie detector potion and lied. Artemis saw and wanted to teach him a lesson so they fought with Artemis and her hunter on one side and Grover, Reyna and Percy on the other. During the fight, Rachel steps in to stop them and Percy apologises before answering the question truthfully. They sit down to play again and Artemis is dared to sing a song. So she sings All The Single Ladies and Reyna, Rachel and her hunter joins in, but it ends with Percy shouting “PUT YOUR HANDS UP!” causing the the girls to scream his name in irritation and Grover to laugh.
P4’s Storyline:
Three main gods of Olympus, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, fight over the throne while the other gods take sides. They caused severe natural disasters and the people suffered a lot. The half- bloods, whom are half god and half human, united so as to take this chance to break the gods apart and rule over Mount Olympus. When the gods realised that the half-bloods were posing a threat to them, they decided to unite and fight against the half-bloods since they were not powerful enough to defeat them individually. Due to this, they realised the importance of teamwork and managed to defeat the half-bloods. They reached a mutual agreement that none of the gods would be the successor to the throne. To celebrate the long awaited peace and the defeat of the half-bloods, the gods decided to throw a party.
P5’s Storyline:
This story tells us about a curious girl, Vickiki who wanted to learn more about everything. It all started when her mother warned her not to enter the room, which made even more curious to explore the room and ultimately find the pandora box. She time travelled from the 21st century back to ancient greece where the Gods(Athena and Zeus) and Titans(Mylinus and Atlas) were fighting. In the midst of anxiety, she accidentally pressed her music app which played Monster by Exo, scaring the Titans away. After learning that Vickiki had helped to defeat the Titans, the Gods were grateful to Vickiki and invited her to celebrate with them. Afterwards, they helped Vickiki to get back to the 21st Century in return for helping them win the war.
P6’s Storyline:
For eons, all was peaceful in Olympus, the legendary home of the Gods. However, when a seemingly undefeatable enemy called Eon arises, Olympus falls into a state of chaos and disarray as the Gods disputed over what to do. The many disagreements caused the once close-knit group of gods to fall out and as a result, each attempts to defeat the enemy in their own ways. The time Zeus, Aphrodite and Artemis spent in captivity finally gave the gods time to reflect and they realised that they weren’t lacking strength, but teamwork. After each devising an escape plan and breaking out, the Gods finally came together as one and together, defeated Eon.
Thoughts from a Year 2…
For me, watching the performances put up by different patrols is always interesting for we could all see how the different patrols had different interpretations of the same theme. I was slightly nervous when it was my patrol’s turn to perform as one of our members had gone home since she was unwell, and this meant that our script required moderate adjustment. Luckily, we managed to pull off a decent performance despite the last minute changes. The song leaders did a great job in livening up the atmosphere and I was enthused despite my exhaustion. There was a certain peace I felt sitting there watching the campfire and singing songs and it was a memorable experience that I will not forget.
3.0 Day Three
After completing most of the camp, it was finally the 3rd and final day! However, the rain disrupted many of the events causing the order of events to be mixed up. Firstly, there was morning evacuation, and the trainees were told to bring their gadgets (even those that have been 打进) indoors (at Olave Hall) to strike. However, not all patrols managed to strike their flagpoles and banners. Nonetheless, the trainees went on to take the rest of their logistics to prepare for patrol logistics inspection.
3.1 Strike Camp
Firstly, there was morning evacuation, and the trainees were told to bring their gadgets (even those that have been 打进) indoors (at Olave Hall) to strike. However, not all patrols managed to strike their flagpoles and banners. Nonetheless, the trainees went on to take the rest of their logistics to prepare for patrol logistics inspection. They would continue to strike camp after breakfast.
3.2 Inspection
The storyline goes like this:
After your victory, it is finally time to leave Mount Olympus and return home. Ensure you have packed all your that you need, for once you leave, you may never return.
Trainees are required to lay out their patrol logistics within 7 minutes and standardise the layout amongst themselves. After 7 minutes, they will be given a new layout which they are expected to follow and layout their logistics accordingly within 8 minutes. However, only 2 layouts will be given to the trainees. This is to train their communication and ability to improvise, as well as to prompt someone to take the initiative to step out and lead everyone. In the event that the trainees are unable to finish within the time, they are still required to 集合 to the counsellors.
Here is a reflection from a Year 2:
In-Camp Inspection was rather unexpected and we were still confused after being woken up suddenly during morning evacuation. It was chaotic as everyone only focused on their own patrols and didn't notice if they were stepping on the belongings of other patrols. It was also challenging to rearrange everything in a standardised manner as some patrols had items that other patrols did not have. We tried to improve the neatness of our layout when the counsellors gave us time but it didn't seem to help. To make matters worse, there was hardly any cheering so everyone was in low spirits. I feel that we should have cheered more to raise the morale and be more motivated. We should have also tried to organise ourselves better as the chaotic situation only slowed down our pace. However, we did try to communicate among patrols to standardise the layout, which exemplifies our teamwork together as a company.
3.3 Company Games
After inspection, the trainees had their breakfast and it was time for Company Games! Company Games is a fun session of games planned by the counsellors. The three games are: “Dog and Bone” and “Hunter, Fire and Earthquake”. After the Company Games ended, trainees went back to strike the rest of their gadgets, as well as their Kitchen Shelter.
Here are some thoughts from a Year 2…
The company games were very enjoyable and they were also very different from the usual strenuous camp activities. The games were light-hearted and fun, putting everyone in a great mood. The games we played were 'Dog and Bone' and 'Fire, Earthquake and Hunter'. For Dog and Bone we were separated into two groups and each group had to snatch up as many balls as possible. I think some of us were a little hesitant to go out and take the ball especially when the station master said things like, "Those who think they are cute step out" etc but at the end of the day I learnt that sometimes we have to put ourselves out there and step out of our comfort zone. For the second game, I felt that it was a great bonding exercise for the entire company as each time we had to switch partners as 'trees' or move around to different people as 'squirrels', it gave us opportunities to end up with guides whom we may or may not have talked to before and in between each round there would always be a slight buffer time for us to talk and catch up which was nice. To wrap up, I do agree that the company games proved to be effective in ensuring bonding among the different batches as only if we work closely to one another then we can improve together as a company.
3.4 Mystery Games
After both strike camp and the inspection has ended, it was time for Mystery Games. Mystery Games, as the name suggests, was a Mystery to both the counsellors and the trainees, for it was planned by the Year 4s. Here is what happened.
Year Ones:
For us, our senior gave us each time 5 minutes to change into our guides uniform. However, we could not meet the time limit as a batch. As we needed at least 1 person from each patrol in order to ask for time extension, we would all get really frustrated when we could not collate enough people, which often caused us to 过时. Hence, we repeated the process several times before we finally got it right. After that, we were given a short break, before running for ten minutes around the camp premises. Surprisingly, it wasn't tiring at all because ATC had made us stronger by pushing us to our limits and helping us overcome boundaries. Apart from that, we cheered together while we ran, which really boosted our morale and helped us press on. Thereafter, we took a short break and our senior told us about her experience as a guide in Year 1, and she also took the time to reply our queries patiently. A teacher who was present also told us about the upcoming collaboration with scouts and what to expect in the years to come. All in all, mystery games was really a fruitful experience for us. Not only did we learn about life in Girl Guides, we also became stronger both physically and mentally.
Year Twos:
The mystery games consisted of 4 back to back inspections with a bit of running in between. For the inspections, 2 year 2s had to read aloud the inspection layout given by the senior, which was completely foreign to us. I feel that the role of reading the layout gave my batch mates a chance to step out of their comfort zones and step up as a leader which is great as we would be able to lead our juniors better if we train up our leadership skills. The first time round, when we looked at our inspection layout as a batch, it was quite disappointing as it was extremely messy with objects and plastic bags strewn all over the place. We were given another chance to lay out our logistics and on the second try, although feeling stressed and undoubtedly frustrated, we did put in a greater effort and had a greater sense of urgency which helped us improve a lot. We carried on with this again but the last round was different as we were not allowed to communicate which proved to be very difficult. Since we only had a vague idea of what the layout looked like, we had to rely a lot on one another and help one another out in times of need. All in all, although the mystery games were stressful and very frustrating, we did not give up and persevered though it as a batch and I feel that it not only brought us closer, but also made us better guides by improving our sense of urgency and allowing us to step up and lead.
Year Threes:
For Y3 mystery games, we were split into two groups. One group did physical activities whilst the other group built a bridge for the first half of the allocated time, and then both groups swapped roles for the second half of the allocated time. I was in the second group of Year 3s so we did physical activities first. Having been the ones planning instead of carrying out the activities during normal 集合, I realised that my physical fitness had went down and my stamina was weak too. I barely lasted through the 2nd circuit. From this, I feel that even as a senior, we should maintain our standards in all aspects just as when we were still juniors, if not better. As for building the bridge, I think we did a rather decent job as most of the lashes were very tight at the structure could stand though we did experience a few challenges in rushing to attempt to complete the structure. One of such challenges was dealing with long rope. The 麻布袋 at the station had many long 麻绳s, which resulted in time wastage because a lot of time is taken to coil the remaining 麻绳 around the spar after tying a lash. This challenge helped me to understand how the juniors feel and some of the challenges they face when carrying out activities. Although we often chide the juniors for not completing their tasks on time, having no sense of urgency or lacking in skills, I realised that it may not always be the case. There are instances like this which may slow down progress as well and this has helped me understand that the end result does not necessarily reflect on the ability of the juniors. As seniors, we should also try to be more understanding of the situation that the juniors are facing. Overall, the mystery games really enhanced my understanding of what a leader is and should be, and I am thankful for this eye opening experience.
After the Mystery Games, the Camp Christine tents were finally dry and the trainees went back to strike it. This marked the end of strike camp.
3.5 Ending
After the Company Games, a debrief was held at Olave Hall, then there was a prize presentation and photo-taking session. Congratulations to these patrols!

3rd place: P5 Victory
Then, everyone loaded the logistics onto the bus and headed back to school for break camp. It was a tiring 3 days and 2 nights but we hope that the trainees learnt much from it! As seniors, we hope that everyone had valuable takeaways from the camp. Rest well!
