Passing Down Parade, 23 July 2020

Hello Guides!

During this week’s 集合 we had a Passing Down Parade. The first part of the Passing Down Parade was the announcement of new roles followed by a patrol corner time. Following that, we exchanged messages with one another and said our final goodbyes to the Year 4s. Here are some overall thoughts on how we feel.

Reflection from a Year 1

This was my first time witnessing a Passing Down Parade. Although I know that my Year 4 seniors are still in school, I felt so sad seeing them leave Girl Guides. We did not have enough time to hang out in Girl Guides to know each other better due to the Covid-19 situation. Nevertheless, the Year 4s have been very caring and they have taught me a lot in the past 3 months which would help me in my guiding journey. This is every Year 1s first Passing Down Parade. Some shed tears, some bravely moved on, but in the end, we have our memories and bonds that will not fade away. I wish the Year 4s the best of luck in future.

Reflection from another Year 1

We thought that this online CCA experience was new to us due to the Covid-19 and we weren’t able to have many activities that we were supposed to, like the actual Passing Down Parade during CCA. Although it was brief, we really enjoyed the time spent with our seniors and the activities planned for us. We were sad when the Year 4s left but we saw that the bond between the guides in the company was very strong. We also were able to find out a bit about some roles in a patrol and the company. We felt a bit confused about the Passing Down Parade and how it was supposed to be carried out and also about the new roles. However, we felt happy to be able to participate in the Passing Down Parade with our seniors and wish the Year 4s the best of luck. This event strengthened our sense of belonging in Girl Guides. We learnt about the Passing Down Parade traditions and we hope that the situation will go back to normal so that we can resume all activities.

Reflection from a Year 2

Despite the fact that the Passing Down Parade this year had to be held online, it was still a memorable event. I feel sad that the Year 4s will no longer have CCA with us. I will always remember them and how they have helped make my guiding journey such an enjoyable one so far. I am also happy for the Year 3s as they will have the opportunity to step up as the 领导层. Additionally, during this Passing Down Parade, I have also received my Year 2 role, and I feel excited and nervous about it. This is my very first role in Girl Guides, hence, I feel excited to be able to help and contribute to my patrol. On the other hand, I feel nervous stepping up as well as I do not know what to expect of my new role. Despite this, I will definitely put in my best effort in carrying out the responsibilities that I have.

Reflection from another Year 2

This Passing Down Parade was very memorable. It is the first online Passing Down Parade but it was just as emotional. The Year 4s are leaving and the Year 3s are the new 领导成。It felt like we grew up instantly. The Year 1s also officially enrolled and that means added responsibility to everyone. The Year 3s are the leaders and the Year 2s officially have juniors. We will all have to be more responsible and proactive. We have to lead by example and guide the Year 1s. Furthermore, we have to make decisions and improve our leadership skills. It is scary and uncertain as we now have to bear the responsibility for mistakes. We used to follow our Year 3s, but now we have to learn to step up and look at the bigger picture.

Reflection from a Year 3

Although this year’s Passing Down Parade was held differently, it was still a very significant event to all of us. It is the time of the year where we say goodbye to the Year 4s and step up to lead our juniors. The seniors have always spent so much time planning fun activities for us and we are really thankful for them. We presented the Year 4s with our goodbye message as well as video montages to them and it was definitely a very emotional moment. The Year 4s have been with us ever since we were Year 1s in Girl Guides but now that it is our turn to step up and guide our juniors, I do feel slightly pressurized but yet really excited to plan activities for them. The responsibility that we have to take up is indeed a huge one but we will try our best in what we do. Even though 集合s would still have to be held online, I will take it as a challenge for us and find different ways to carry out the 集合s.

With this, it marks the end of the Passing Down Parade. A big thank you to the Year 4s for always being there for us and working hard to plan activities for us. We are very grateful towards you. We will continue to do our best and all the best to you!
