Hi Guides!

For today’s 集合, we did Creative Gadgeting followed by a game called Captain’s Ball.

Creative Gadgeting

For this activity, Guides were required to build a Ferris wheel. This is a slightly more challenging structure. This activity aims to help Guides work together efficiently and let Guides have a look at the bigger picture to ensure the smooth building of this structure.

Reflection from a Year 1 in P6:

The last 集合 on Friday, 29 July, we worked did Gadgeting. We had to build a Ferris wheel and two tripod-like structures so that we could play Captain's Ball. We had to work in groups, which consisted of two patrols combined together. Our sense of urgency was not very good at first, but after our seniors reminded us, we managed to improve on our sense of urgency. Even though we had a better sense of urgency after we were reminded, we slacked and did not have a good sense of urgency after a while. We did not have many things kapped by our seniors because we put our things under our structure, which prevented the seniors from kapping our logistics. We took turns in checking for missing logistics and people. As we did not really do well during CCA, we had to do a forfeit. I think we could have done better by working better together as a group and making sure that we 照顾好人,照顾好东西. We could have also 报时 more constantly and cheered louder. In a nutshell, we did not do a good job and can improve on many things such as our sense of urgency, being more constant in our 报时 and 照顾好人,照顾好东西 better.

Reflection from a Year 2 in P3:

On Friday, we had to build a Ferris wheel. We had to combine patrols with Patrol 4. I volunteered to be the PL. At first, when we looked at the drawing, we were quite confused. However, we understood after a while and quickly instructed our group members to start building an A-架. Halfway through the building, the PVC pipe was not long enough and we had to retie and adjust the structure. I felt that I could have given more specific instructions as the 木 was not supposed to be in the position we needed it to be. Since our structure was already complete, everyone in the patrol was helping to push the 木 closer and we did it together to prevent any people from getting kapped. By doing so, we forgot about one most important thing: the structure. Our entire structure was kapped without us knowing and we only realised it after we were done with the Ferris wheel. This taught us to 照顾好人,照顾好东西. Other than that, we could definitely improve the tightness of our lashes. The Ferris wheel was not supposed to move since it was not tied to the PVC pipe but it could still move due to the loose lashes. We could have retied the loose lashes in our free time as we were done before the time was up. I felt that our sense of urgency could be improved too. Our 报时 and cheering were quite often and we took more initiative and that was good. Overall, this was a memorable experience for me as I stepped up to be PL and it was one of the first times I led a group. Even though my allocation of manpower was not the best, I could take note and try to improve in upcoming CCA sessions.

Captain's ball

In this activity, Guides are to build 2 hoops for the Captain's ball game and use them. Guides are able to bond with each other and have fun

Reflection from a Year 1 in P1:
On Friday, we were tasked to build the hoops for Captain's ball. My patrol was grouped together with P6 so we had to work together. In addition to that, we were only given a short amount of time to complete the task. Learning from the previous task, which was to build a Ferris wheel, we tried to cheer and 报时 more. My group and I had taken quite a long time to finish building the tripods, so we had not much time to finish up the other parts of the hoops. In the end, we did not manage to finish building the two hoops and had less time to play Captain's ball. Though we could not finish building in time, this was still a good opportunity to interact and bond with my groupmates. Playing Captain’s ball at the end was also a fun way to end the 集合 off. All in all, I had a lot of fun in this building the hoops and playing captain’s ball. However, I feel that my group and I could have improved on working faster as we were unable to finish building the hoops on time and having a strong sense of urgency is important

Reflection from a Year 2 in P4:

During Friday’s 集合, we built two Captain’s ball nets. Three groups were made of two patrols combined. My group made two tripods with netting for the Captain's ball net, however, it took quite long. Despite only being given five minutes, we 过时 as the tripod for my group was tied too loosely. It had to be retied quite a number of times. We ended up taking 20 minutes across the three groups to get the tripods up. We definitely could have worked faster, and I will try to practice tying tripods so I can be more familiar with the lash. Then, we noticed the 顶脚s were not in an equilateral triangle so the netting was too small for a ball to fit inside. We opened the netting as much as we could.

After that, we got to play Captain’s ball! It is something we do not usually get to do, so I am glad we could play it again. Since my patrol had too little people, someone from Patrol 3 joined us. The game was really enjoyable as we could run around and play. Although their patrol had to get the ball into the smaller net, they somehow kept scoring and won. I think my team could have had a better strategy to win but the game was fun nonetheless.

Hope everyone enjoyed the fun activities today and learnt something new!
