Hi Guides! We had an exciting Patrol Activity today!
Reflection by a Year 1 in P1:
On 29th July, Monday, we did Outdoor Cooking as a Patrol. At the start, we had to collect the Logistics needed for Outdoor Cooking including 木, a Zinc Plate and 3 Bricks. As this was my first time building the Outdoor Fire Altar, it was very interesting. We had 10 minutes to bring the Logistics down from 团部. However, we had to ask for a Time extension of 2 minutes as the items were heavy and we could not remember all the Logistics we needed very well. We then started building the structure with about 30 minutes left of the CCA session to cook and eat. We had a rough start with hammering the 木 into the ground and it took very long but managed to do it after some time and everyone tried hammering. We also learnt how to start a fire after the Outdoor Fire Altar was completed. We also learnt how to keep the fire going without it getting blown out by the wind which was rather strong on the day. In the end, our efforts paid off and we managed to cook the food prepared by our Year 3 seniors and burnt some food accidentally as well. After that, we had to clean up the Zinc plate which we managed to do before the CCA session ended and did not need to ask for a Time extension. From this 集合, I learnt that being familiar with the Logistics needed and tying tight Lashes quickly are really important so we have enough time for cooking and eating the food.
Reflection from a Year 2 in P2:
On 29 July during Patrol Activity we built a structure to use as a badminton net. We started off with collecting logistics. First we tied 2 tripods with 6 红木 and used 6 青木s for 定脚s after 起ing the tripods and opening them on separate sides of the road at General Science Lab. Then , we attached a 麻绳 onto both tripods to make a badminton net. This took us about 45 minutes and in the end we only got to play for 20 minutes. We also got distracted by P1's outdoor cooking and ate a few marshmallows and hotdogs. I think that if we worked with a better sense of urgency and focused more on the task instead of talking, we would have gotten to play badminton for a longer amount of time. However I think we did realise and try to work faster because we managed to 拆掉 and return our logistics in less than 15 minutes despite having only 3 people, so I think that we are able to work fast but were more relaxed in the first half of our PA. We will improve our sense of urgency in future PAs and 集合s. After that we got treated to drinks by Cheryl.
Reflection by a Year 1 in P3:
This was one of the 集合 sessions that I looked forward to attending – patrol activity! It was these occasions that allowed my patrol to strengthen our bonds. For this PA session, it was a little different from the usual 集合s that we had. We 集合-ed on Level 3 in front of the lifts in anticipation. We were briefed on what we were going to do and I was buzzing with excitement, as it was going to be a totally different experience that day. The first activity was a treasure hunt around the classroom for post-it notes containing symbols in code form that we had to break in order to answer the Guides-related question. Finding the first few notes was a breeze, but it got harder as the number of unfound notes lessened. We ended up singing and dancing to《南屏晚钟》for a hint, which resulted in us laughing hysterically as we forgot some lyrics and actions of the song. After the extremely fun treasure hunt, we headed down to the General Science Lab on Level 1 and were split into two groups. Both groups included one Year 1 and one Year 2. We competed against each other to answer Guides-related questions and I learned quite a bit more knowledge on Guides. We were lastly tasked to build a Baggage Rack, which we had some uncertainties about building. However, we certainly improved and refreshed our knowledge on the structure while building it. It was a very memorable PA experience and I had a lot of fun!
Reflection by a Year 1 in P5:
On 29 July, my Patrol mates and I did creative gadgeting. We were supposed to make a net for a game of foot volleyball, those of which people play in variety shows. Firstly, we had to think about how to build the net. It was quite an easy job as we thought of ideas really quickly and got into discussion to discuss on how we wanted to build the net. After a minute or two, we had a rough idea of how we wanted to build it and got to work. It was quite an easy process as we talked about how our school life was and our Year 3 seniors had kindly played some music for us to listen to as we constructed our net, to allow us to not be too restless and be more relaxed. At last, we finished our creative gadgeting, and even though we did not manage to finish our netting, the foot volleyball net came out just fine! We were overjoyed as our net was quite a success. We played foot volleyball for a while, and our Year 3 seniors had even agreed to join us in the game! After a while, we got bored of foot volleyball so we played all other kinds of ball games such as dodgeball, volleyball, and others. I had lots of fun building the foot volleyball net and I hope my Patrol mates did too, and had a fulfilling experience during 29 July’s Patrol Activity, which I hope to have again.
We all had fun today, and hope to see you soon!
