一日童军,一世童军!

a blog post kupped from an old guide from dunman high, Estelle(http://estellexie.blogspot.com)

Today.. I rummaged upon my old water bag… the old green “overland” brand water bag that I bought and used for the mountain climbing trip in jc year one… and many memories of the old active days came flooding back….

When I was in sec sch, I was a girl guide.. n being a dunman high girl guide was a real happening thing…

I love those outdoor cooking days… in a big unused land of green behind the school, we would dig up little holes and fill them with dried leaves, twigs, branches and then little logs for our outdoor bbq… the food we bbq was very much normal bbq food.. but the fun and challenge really came from starting our own fire with those raw materials n of cos’ matchsticks la (we r not flintstones)… we’ll also bbq whole chickens.. with honey!! Woh! Plus lots of girly fun!!!… gosh… I miss being in an environment of all girls.. the sisterhood was certainly sweet =)

Then there was the mock emergency games.. where patrols of 16 sisters would run all around the school to the checkpoints of emergencies to solve the given problems.. then theres the first aider in each patrol running ard with her little but handy first aid kit… =) then ah.. each patrol was only entitled to 3 water bottles… n we would pass them among the 16 of us during water breaks…

I recall every friday nite spending hours polishing the badges.. the steel whistle… n ironing the girl guide uniform to perfection… n the irritating scarf that take ages to tie!!! We have uniform inspections… n they r not fun times… during camps… inspections take to their maximum possibility.. everything possible is inspected… scary….

N those nights of sleeping in tents.. woh… memorable days were they… everybody wants to sleep near the tent doors… inside the tent… stuffy… squeezy… u name it… at least we’r girls la.. hygienic, no funny smell la… haha..

Then… having to change attire in matter of seconds.. woh.. not fast enough.. change back n change again!!! Ah!!!!!

Another thing I’ll never forget is square knot (if u noe what it is). I probably tied it a million times while in girl guides.. I think I can still rem now if im required to tie one now!

Then of cos’ there was also guard duties.. where we took turns to wake up at various times during camps to make sure everything’s fine n stay watch.

lets not forget about our older 30+ batches of seniors who shaped DHS guides to what it is today. pia our very best! and never give up!
