Hike, 28th March

Hi Guides!

We had a hike at Henderson Waves and the parks surrounding it on 28th March! The patrols were paired up before they set off on the hike. Throughout the hike, the Guides had to complete 3 checkpoints and 5 stations. At the end, the first 2 patrols to reach the end point would be the winners.

Station 1
Description:
This station will be charades and both patrols will compete against each other. 3 members in each patrol will be responsible for guessing, and the remaining patrol members will be shown the word that they are supposed to act out. They can either act it out or make a sound. Both patrols will be given different words. At the end of each round (6 mins), 3 different people will volunteer to guess while the others act out the word. There will be 3 rounds in total. The patrol that solved lesser number of words will have to do a forfeit, which is writing their patrol name with their butt.

Station 2
Description:
Part 1:
Measure the distance in pacings of two specific markings on the floor (there are markings on the floor, e.g. 60+m above sea level etc)

Part 2:
There'll be a 5×5 bingo grid on the floor (masking tape) where patrol members have to answer questions or complete a certain task for each box.

First patrol to complete both tasks wins and the losing patrol will have to do a forfeit (one cup of diluted vinegar water per patrol).

Station 3
Description:
The station will be a mini race, where the two patrols will start at the bottom pavillion and go through obstacles to get to the top pavillion.

1) They will have to piggyback another member until they reach the steps

2) They will be given twine to tie all their legs together, then they have to climb the stairs together

3) The patrols will then be given 15 cups that they will have to stack into a pyramid formation
○ they will also be given 3 ping pong balls which they can use to either eliminate a member from the other patrol or use the ping pong balls to try and knock down the other patrol’s pyramid

4) They will play an electric fence twist in the pavillion
○ Firstly, there will be boxes/spaces in the pavillion tied by raffia string
○ Each space will have a different colour, which will be marked out using coloured paper
○ The patrol has to form pairs- one person will be blindfolded (using garbage bags), while the other will direct the blindfolded
○ Each patrol will send out 5 pairs (10 people) for this activity. If there are not enough people, some can go again.
○ Objective of this game is to get the blindfolded partner on all fours where the spaces are of the same colour.
The losing patrol (the slower one to finish the race) has to do maboleh on the steps.

Station 4
Description:
Each patrol will first play five stones on the table inside the pavilion. They will be allowed to proceed once they can grab 4 stones. (If the patrols are really unable to catch 4 stones, the minimum number would be reduced to 3) Once done, they will go over to the foot of the hill. Then, they will have to take off their shoes and throw them within a boundary that we will mark out. They will be able to proceed once 3 shoes have entered the boundary. The losing team will have to run up the hill and down again before proceeding.

Station 5
Description:
Each patrol will go to one pavillion to carry out their activity. Firstly, the patrol has to split into groups of 3. The different groups will be conducting the activity simultaneously. For round 1, one person will be blindfolded, one will be striking a pose (given by station master) while the last person will be in charge of directing the blindfolded person to imitate the pose. The person directing cannot touch the blindfolded person and can only verbally tell her how to move her limbs. This will go on until round 1 is over (4 mins), and they will switch roles i.e. different person will be blindfolded etc. There are 3 rounds in total. Station masters will then collate the total number of poses that each patrol did, and the losing patrol will have to do a forfeit. The forfeit will be the entire patrol doing a funny pose (given by station master) and a picture will be taken of them.

In the end, P1 and P4 emerged the winners! But, all the patrols walked away with prizes :) Hopefully the Guides enjoyed the hike and took the opportunity to bond with their patrol members!
