Hi Guides!

During today’s 集合, we had Creative Gadgeting, Inspection, Patrol Corner and a Mini Performance!

Creative Gadgeting

We started off by having a competition of logistics. In order to require your logistics, you would have to win 3 consecutive games of scissors paper stone with your Year 4 seniors before proceeding to grab your logistics. Each person can only take 3 gadget poles at a time and the game will end when all the logistics have been taken.

Following that, it was time for us to start on our Creative Gadgeting. You would have to build a structure that is to be put up for auction. A few of the richest Girl Guides in Asia also known as your Year 4s will be going to that auction. As for the first part of the auction, your job would be to build a structure that is attractive and useful. Time will be given later for you to sell and explain your structure to them. However, these wealthy ladies hate seeing standard structures or tripods the most. So be as creative as possible! Lastly, you would have to use all the logistics provided in order for you to be eligible to sell your structures in the auction.

Reflection from a Year 3

The Creative Gadgeting activity during Friday’s 集合 allowed me to understand the importance of having proper 定脚s and a stable structure. The structure that we built was very unstable, as our diagonals and lashes were not tied properly. We could improve by ensuring that our diagonals and lashes are up to standard and tie it tighter in the future. Furthermore, I feel that my patrol can work on having a greater sense of urgency and being more decisive. On Friday, we spent a lot of time arguing and discussing what structure should be built. We also did not involve our Year 2s in the discussion and this caused them to be confused and unaware of the structure. Our indecisiveness has caused us to 过时 and waste a lot of time, thus, in the future, we would try to discuss our plan while starting on the structure and to include our juniors in the discussions. Despite the fact that there is a lot of room for improvement, I think that my patrol 报时ed often during the activity, so we will try to keep it up and to 报时 and cheer even more during 集合s. Overall, the Creative Gadgeting activity has been a great learning experience for us.

Inspection

To ensure they can see all your logistics in the least amount of time possible, we will now be conducting something like an inspection. These wealthy girl guides will expect to see neat and tidy layouts before they can choose what logistics to bring home as souvenirs.

Reflection from a Year 3

For us, our inspection was cut short as we didn't have enough time. My patrol did not have everything in our 配备 for inspection so we could not standardise to the other patrols as much. However, we managed to have our labels facing up and myself and the other Year 3s managed to step up and try to give instructions to the other patrols. We should have stood in the middle and not at the side so P1 could hear us. We should also have given clearer instructions. However, something I have learnt from this inspection is that the 白绳 box is not supposed to be in our inspection layout. Our patrol managed to 照顾好东西 but we need to work on 照顾好人. Overall, I think we could all takeaway a few things from this inspection and learn from our mistakes.

Patrol Corner

This Patrol Corner was used not only for the debrief of today’s 集合 but also to practise the Guides song which we are going to be singing for our mini performance!

Reflection from a Year 3

During Patrol Corner, we had to discuss the performance with the songs we had chosen. We chose the worm song and 南屏晚钟. It was a great opportunity for us to revise the songs and teach our juniors too. We chose a Chinese song which we were not familiar with so we also got a chance to learn how to sing that song from our seniors. Now, we know how to sing it and can teach future juniors such that everyone will know how to sing both English and Chinese songs. I feel that through this, we got to bond and get closer with our patrols. We had to perform our songs in front of everyone, I feel that we got the chance to get out of our comfort zones and learn to sing louder and more confidently, especially knowing there will be a forfeit for those who sing too softly.  This is a great chance for us to be more courageous as we are usually quite quiet and don't cheer or 报时 often. Overall, I feel that it was a fruitful session and we all benefited from it. It was quite fun and slightly different from usual patrol corners and an enjoyable way to end 集合.

Mini Performance

This mini performance aims to help the Year 2s and Year 3s familiarise themselves with the Guides songs that we usually sing during our 集合. We hope that through this, they would be able to step out of their comfort zones and sing the songs more confidently.

Reflection from a Year 3

For the Mini Performance on Friday, I think it was a good bonding experience for me as well as my batchmates. The Year 3s and I got to teach our juniors some of the songs. I feel that we were also able to step up a bit more because we had to take the initiative to speak up and teach the songs to our Year 2s. It was also a good revision for us as we weren't really fluent in singing the songs. The performances put up by the other patrols were nice to watch and we could also brush up on the other songs. I feel that through this experience, my patrol members and I got to bond with each other better as we had to work together in order to sing the song correctly. Overall, this segment was pretty fun.

Hopefully everyone was able to gain something new from this 集合 and that you managed to familiarise yourself with the Guides songs! Rest well and we will see you next week!
