Completing the Writers’ and Dental Health Badgework, as well as taking part in the STEM badge sharing, has been a meaningful and eye-opening journey for me as a Year 2 Girl Guide. Through these experiences, not only did I gain new knowledge, but I also discovered more about myself, especially in terms of discipline, teamwork, and confidence. For the Writers’ Badgework, I learnt how to express my ideas with greater clarity and creativity. Writing has always been something I enjoyed, but this activity challenged me to write with purpose and structure. I had to consider my choice of words carefully, set the right tone, and think about how to truly engage the reader. It showed me that writing is not simply about putting words on a page, but about communicating feelings, perspectives, and messages in a way that resonates with others. It taught me the importance of planning before writing and revising after finishing. Working on the Dental badgework gave me a sharper awareness of personal health and hygiene. I learnt not just about oral care routines, but also about the science behind tooth decay and how to build healthy habits for life. This experience reminded me that small daily practices, such as brushing and flossing, play a big role in preventing long-term problems. I also grew more confident in sharing what I had learnt with my family and peers, knowing that my knowledge could make a practical difference to their well-being. Finally, the STEM badge sharing allowed me to explore scientific concepts in a fun and hands-on way. It helped me realise that STEM is not only about solving problems but also about nurturing curiosity and creativity. The sense of discovery I felt made me excited to keep learning and applying science beyond the classroom. Overall, these Badgework activities taught me the importance of perseverance, responsibility, and the joy of sharing knowledge with others. More than just fulfilling requirements, they have inspired me to keep growing as a learner, a Guide, and a contributor to my community.
On August, we had WAGGGs as a batch on food nutrition. Firstly we were briefed on the different food nutrition classifications like proteins, carbohydrates and lipids and how to have a balanced diet. I learnt that we have to have at least 2 servings of fruits and vegetables to balance with a serving of meats and carbohydrates each. This diet provides us with the necessary nutrients to live an active and healthy lifestyle, and prevent health issues like malnutrition, obesity, low or high blood sugar. After that, we sat in a circle and played Fishbowl. How Fishbowl goes is that two of us would sit in the middle of the circle which was the “fishbowl” and to then choose a card from the IC, who wrote prompts about living a healthy lifestyle by practising non-sedentary habits or eating well. The people in the “fishbowl” would have to elaborate on the prompt and say as much as they can. The people who are not in the “fishbowl” would then have an idea on what the prompt is about and would tap on their batchmate in the “fishbowl” to substitute them in and continue elaborating. Everyone has to have a chance to tap in and speak. It was really fun as half the time, we just blurted out random facts on nutrition that we learnt in Biology, and also made references to a video on the start of a heart attack we were showed during Biology lessons. While having fun, we all shared enriching facts, and good habits and measures to take to lead a healthy lifestyle. After that, we split ourselves into two groups to have a competition. We were to write down two ingredients from our favourite foods and describe it to the next person in line in our group and pass it down, and the last person in line would have to rush to write it down onto the board. Then, we switch places in line and continue until we have 3 ingredients on the board. We played a total of 3 rounds, all of which were very exciting as we had to race with the other group! Halfway through, we were told that we could only use actions to describe the ingredient from that point onwards, so we strategised to use common ingredients like fish, pork and water, which were easy to describe with actions. I had a blast! Next, we planned menus! In our same groups, we had to plan a family menu from Monday to Sunday, splitting the week into two for both groups. Whichever group finished and wrote it on the board first wins. However, the meals had to be balanced and healthy. My group was doing very well until our IC came up with situations like for example, the children refusing to eat the healthy foods or that the price of meat had increased. Hence, we had to keep adapting and substituting ingredients whilst ensuring the family still got the nutrients required for their healthy and balanced diets. In the end, both groups finished roughly at the same time, but my group managed to clinch the first place! Regardless of who won the competition, this activity allowed all of us to learn about a healthy diet, as well as to practice our adaptability and communication skills. Through this 集合’s WAGGGs, I learnt how to properly balance my diet and also had a ton of fun!
