Hi guides, I just wanted to share with you all something new i experienced during International Camp 2007 at Camp Christine. Introducing... Backwoodsman!
Usually, we do outdoor cooking at guides. But during the camp, it was REALLY outdoor cooking.

Our instructor split us up, with Yi zhen landing in another patrol. When we tried to persuade the instructor to let her join back into the patrol where all the other DHS guides are, he taught us an important lesson: We must learn to make new friends whenever we are given the opportunity to. We shouldn't keep sticking to the friends we already know. Remember, they are once strangers too!

The instructor did not even provide us with the simplest satay sticks! But we had to be thankful that all our chicken and fishes were not alive and kicking! Seems quite impossible, but we made ourselves a sumptuous dinner with just branches, firewood and of course, food.

First, we split the patrol into two. one group went to hunt for branches while others prepared the food and started the fire. Next, we began to shave off the bark from the branches we found and got ourselves clean, whitish branches. We then had to sharpen the tip of the shaved branches so that we could put food through it. Lastly, we came up with a frame around our fire so that we could rest the branches on it and patiently wait for it to cook!

Overall, It was a great session with a really humorous instructor and new friends(: Maybe we can try Backwoodsman-- the backwoodsman style some day!
