Year 1 Lecture, 5th August

Hello Guides! It’s me again!

Last Friday, on the 5th of August, the 48th held their first official 集合 with the Year 1s. On that day, a lecture was held for the Year 1s to deepen their understanding towards guides, practice mass changing, and tighten the bonds between their batch. Firstly, 集合 started with teaching them about our Guiding History in Dunman High, as well as how our CCA originated. Then, we reminded them about the basic  in guides, as well as the beliefs and rules that DHSCOY abide by. Next, we reiterated the standard attire requirements for CCA, so as to ensure that everybody is clear of the attire that they should be in for CCA. After which, everybody 集合-ed outside, and the Year 1s practiced mass changing several times, while the Year 3s were stationed outside the toilets to facilitate the mass changing process. When the Year 1s finished mass changing, we immediately had an attire check to reinforce the proper attire requirements that were mentioned before. Thereafter, we continued with the lecture and briefed the Year 1s about leadership roles and administrative matters, and finally ended by teaching them some songs and cheers such as our .

Reflection from a Year 1
For the 集合 on Friday, I learnt some more new Guides songs which I had not known of before. Also, there were 3 sets of mass changing, which was rather tiring. Furthermore, a number of us had aching legs due to the P.E lessons in the morning. However, I feel that although last Friday was very tiring, it was also very meaningful as we got to learn more about Guides.

Reflection from a Year 1
This 集合, we had a lecture as well as mass change. The Year 3s gave the lecture and it covered the history of guides, expectations of us and our attire, and cheers and songs. The lecture allowed us to have a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities that are expected of us. This will enable us to contribute to the company better and also to better lead our juniors next year. Following the lecture, we had to mass change from our full guides uniform to PE attire multiple times. Although it was very tiring and we felt like giving up, we understood that our seniors wanted to instil a sense of urgency in us. Furthermore, there were many things we learnt from the mass change. We learnt the importance of taking care of our things, caring for one another, the need for constant 报时 and believing in ourselves. Though this 集合 was rather exhausting, I still feel that it was very meaningful.

Reflection from a Year 3
This 集合, what really impressed me was the Year 1’s perseverance when they were mass changing. Initially, they did not believe in themselves and set an expectation of 9 minutes to mass change. During the many rounds of mass changing, we could really see their hard work and determination, and it was heartwarming to hear them cheer each other on and 报时 to help each other keep on task. Although it was hard on them, this has definitely helped them trained their resilience and sense of urgency. For the last round of the mass changing practice, the Year 1s managed to finish in around 6 minutes, which is 3 minutes lesser than the time that they had set for themselves initially. Through this, it is evident how they have improved, and as seniors, we feel really proud of them.
