Hello Guides!
During this week’s 集合, we had lash training and played a game of Skribbl.io as well!
Lash Training
In the previous 集合, the Year 2s had a recap on the various lashes. Hence, in this activity, the Year 2s would be required to apply their knowledge and communicate it in such a way that the Year 1s would be able to understand and can help the Y1s in recapping the lashes as well.
Reflection from a Year 1
We managed to revise our three lashes through this 集合. We may have forgotten how to tie some of the lashes but through this activity, it allowed us to refresh our memory. Even though we knew some of the lashes already, after not attending CCA for so long, we almost forgot all our hard skills, but we were also a bit shy to ask for help before this session. However, after this session, we were more familiar and also knew how to tie those lashes with the thin string and the satay sticks that were given to us and we also tried to do mini-gadgeting. That was something that we felt might not have happened during physical CCA. Overall, we were happy that we had the chance to practice our lashes and 报时 more. We would practice our lashes even on non CCA days and would try to learn other lashes if possible, so that we could learn more skills and put them to good use in future activities.
Reflection from a Year 2
For the lash training, we had to teach the Year 1s how to tie square lash, diagonal lash and tripod. I think this activity was a good opportunity for us to improve our leadership skills and help the Year 1s remember how to tie lashes as they did not have the opportunity to practice them for a long time. Due to the sticks being small, it was quite hard to see how the Year 1s were tying and whether they tied it wrongly. However, we tried our best to observe them on the screen and fortunately, most of them managed to tie their lashes correctly, which we were very proud of. With the Year 1s around, we tried to 报时 more so that they would learn to have a better sense of urgency and tie their lashes faster. From this activity, we learnt how to communicate with the Year 1s better and teach them how to tie lashes correctly. By teaching the Year 1s, it also helps us to improve our own lashes as we would need to set a good example for them to follow. Overall, we learnt many things from this activity and enjoyed it a lot.
Skribbl.io
This game of Skribbl.io is where Girl Guides related words are given and the appointed person for that round of the game would have to draw it out. The rest of the people are to guess what the person is drawing. Through the game of Skribbl.io, Y1s and Y2s would be familiar with the types of knots and lashes, as well as some other basic terms in guides.
Reflection from a Year 1
I find the Skribbl.io game very meaningful. From the Skribbl.io game, I managed to learn a lot of new words such as “fire altar” and “rafting”. I was also able to recap on some words that were previously taught to us last time such as “顶脚” and “八字结”. I enjoyed the Skribbl.io game a lot as it was very fun to try to guess the word. The Skribbl.io game also allowed me to talk to my seniors more as I asked them the meaning of new words. The Skribbl.io game is also very encouraging as there is a thumbs up button we can press to show that the drawing is good. Many of my patrol mates gave me the thumbs up button which really lifted my spirits. Although we were not able to have CCA in person, I think that the Skribbl.io game allowed us to still learn what we would have learnt in a physical CCA session. It also allowed us to interact more with each other across different levels which increased patrol bonding. Through this game, I learnt new words and their meanings, was encouraged and was also able to talk to my seniors more.
Reflection from a Year 2
We got to play a game that I have never played before. Personally I feel that the Skribbl.io game was very fun and meaningful. It was definitely a very good experience to bond with my patrol, especially with the Year 1s. We took turns to draw out a word related to Girl Guides and the others had to guess the word. It was very interesting. It also refreshed our memory on the terms that are commonly used in guides for us Year 2s, like for example quadpod as we have not attended CCA for a few months. This game can also teach the Year 1s on what are the commonly used terms in Girl Guides. As the Year 1s did not have much experience in Girl Guides as compared to the Year 2 batch, this game can provide a platform for us to teach the Year 1s easily without needing to communicate face to face while also having fun. This game also promotes discussion within the patrol, letting us bond with each other. Overall, I find this game very interesting, fun and meaningful and it would be great to be able to play it again in the future.
Hopefully through these activities, everyone was able to better familiarise themselves with the different types of lashes as well as Girl Guides terms!
