Hi everyone!
Our guides went for a dragon boating session on tuesday and i am sure everyone enjoyed it. It was raining slightly in the morning but the bad weather did not dampen our spirits(:
As there was no lightning, we decided to continue with dragon boating!
The instructors were very nice and outgoing. For the benefit of those who have not tried dragon boating before, the instructors taught us how to hold the paddle the proper way and the correct method of rowing the boat.
After everyone got the hang of dragon boating, we set off!
We started off by doing 20, then increasing to 30, 40, one minute and lastly, 2 minutes!
We had the most fun when another dragon boat comes by,(also known as the "opponent" by the instructors). We had to defend ourselves! Since we had nothing except water, we started to splash water into the opponent's boat using our paddles. We even used the large container to pour as much water as we could into the opponent's boat.
However, we could not continue with our water fight forever! So while one side was loading the opponent's boat with water, the other side was rowing away XD
We also had much fun on the "viking ship (the dragon boating way)"! The instructors told us to sit on the edge of our boats (with our legs in the water and butts in the boat) and he started to rock the entire boat! Though there were screams and shouts, we were less afraid because the instructor told us beforehand that the dragon boat will not overturn, and hence, it was safe.
Lastly, some patrols also had a mini competition. We learnt that even though your opponent was winning, we could not give up, because we still had a chance to overtake them if we did our best. After all, dragon boating is a team sport.
After washing ourselves clean, we proceeded for a picnic!
We laid groundsheets and sat together, eating the tuna and egg bread Wulaoshi made for us. (thanks Wulaoshi!) Of course, we also had catered food. (thanks Mrs. Hong!)
We had company games after that. Each patrol had to send out their fastest, strongest, longest, quickest etc. members. The most funny game was when those who were called up were asked to rush down the beach to grab a banana and eat it. The fastest one wins the game!
We certainly had a great workout through dragon boating as well as a wonderful bonding session with our patrols during the picnic. Thank you guiders, Jocelyn and Ching Shia for planning such a good dragon boating session!
pictures will be up soon!
