Annual Training Camp, 3-5 November 2019

Hello Guides!

The Theme for ATC’19 was Asterism: United We Shine.

Here is the overall storyline: In a parallel universe, Vancluse, a galaxy unknown to mankind, lived under the rule of the 6 protectors of the Galaxy. However, due to their frequent territorial disputes and power struggles, the safety and well-being of the citizens were always compromised. One day, as the 6 protectors went about their usual petty disputes, a meteor unknowingly struck Vancluse. Meteor strikes were usual occurrences in this galaxy, but this particular deadly meteorite managed to wipe out half the population of the galaxy. Large pieces of debris in the atmosphere that broke off from the falling meteor started destroying the galaxy. Citizens of Vancluse suffered from serious health problems and lives were gradually slipping away together with time. The 6 protectors of the galaxy finally realised a bigger problem that laid ahead of them; only through coming together as one and utilizing their different strengths to make up for one another’s weaknesses, can they restore the galaxy and save the remaining lives of the citizens. Tick Tock, Tick Tock. Time is ticking, and it is only a matter of time where life will completely cease to exist in this galaxy.

In ATC’19, we aim to cultivate and develop their abilities to the fullest, allowing them to better understand one another’s strengths and learn to work well as a 团, meanwhile learning to accept one another’s weaknesses and use their strengths to make up for it. Instead of small individual stars in the night sky, they can now form an Asterism, a prominent pattern or group of stars which are able to shine even brighter in the night sky. Through the process of going through the tough times together as a batch and as a 团, we hope that each and everyone of them will come to realise the importance of teamwork and camaraderie spirit above their personal benefits and needs in ATC’19, hence being able to “shine” together as a 团. Only through being united as a patrol, batch or even as a 团, will the trainees be able to overcome the different challenges that they might face during ATC’19 and achieve the goals that they have set for themselves.

Here are the 6 patrols:
P1 Galaxy (星空)
P2 Lyra (天琴座)
P3 Lumos (闪烁)
P4 Aquila (星鹰)
P5 Sirius (宇宙)
P6 Scintillate (辉煌)

0.1 Pre-Camp Lecture
Before ATC’19 itself, the trainees, the Year 1s and Year 2s attended a Pre-Camp Lecture conducted by the counsellors, the Year 3s. They were briefed on what to include in the proposals as wells as their ATC patrols which differed from their normal patrols.

0.2 Pre-Camp Preparation
The trainees were given a few weeks to prepare for camp, by completing proposals for Campfire, Camp Development, Outdoor Cooking and Inspection. Selected Song Leaders from each patrol also practiced the songs they would perform during campfire. Lastly, the trainees had to 抽 and pack logistics to prepare for ATC’19 such as packing logistics needed into a Toyogo Box.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For our patrol, we allocated 2 days to packing Toyogo Box and 2 days to do patrol logistics. I feel that we didn’t have very good time management and had to end up overrunning and we had to rush everything on the last day. We also learn from this experience that we needed to plan and think ahead because we needed to ask for access to the 团部 a few days beforehand. From this I feel that we will know to have better time management the next time.

0.2 Pre-Camp Inspection
Pre-Camp Inspection was help on 25 October, where trainees were tasked to layout their logistics. This was to ensure that all patrols had the logistics needed before heading to camp. Other than having a final check before ATC, it also allowed patrol members to bond with one another by cheering and singing their patrol cheers and songs. As it was the first inspection they had as a patrol, this would allow them to bond and improve on communication skills when carrying out inspection. The activities such as Physical Training would also help to improve their stamina before the 3 Day 2 Night camp.

Reflections from a Year 1:
I think that the Pre-Camp 团 inspection was very meaningful. We are able to identify mistakes that we made and this would allow us to improve ourselves before going for ATC. For example, we could prevent ourselves from 过时 by cheering and 报时 more often instead of doing it only with the seniors continuous reminders. We should also think first before doing. During the Patrol Logistics inspection, we should have focused on unpacking the 配备 rather than shifting the Toyogo Box. In conclusion, I think that we still have a lot of room for improvement and we should strive more to achieve better results. We should also be more motivated and 主动 to help our Year 2s during inspection and 报时 and cheer more often instead of just letting the Year 2s do all the job. This will help the year 2s greatly and this will also raise the patrol's morale and prevent us from 过时. With the correct mindset, the obstacles we face can be overcome and hopefully, we will have improvement during ATC.

Reflections from a Year 2:
I think the Pre-Camp inspection 团 inspection was a good learning experience because we will have 团 inspections during ATC and can therefore realise and fix a lot of the mistakes we made. For example, we should have 对 to a patrol in the middle, like P3 or P4 so everyone in the can see what's going on. We didn't do that so one patrol ended up not being able to see the layout and was quite far away from the other patrols. As it's a inspection teamwork between the patrols is very important so we should've looked out for each other more and reminded each other about things like compacting too.

Firstly, the trainees retrieved their logistics and changed into their Guides Uniform, and had inspection where they laid out the logistics in the Toyogo Box and 配备. Next, they headed to their respective classrooms where they would have station assessment. Here are the 6 stations:

1. Adaptability
Reflections from a Year 2:
For the Pre-Camp Inspection adaptability, we did not do that well as there was no proper manpower allocation and everyone was crowded around the same spot. Many Guides did not know what to do. From this, I learnt that we must have someone to read out the layouts and the rest to carry out the instructions. This will allow for better efficiency in laying out the layouts.

2. Completeness
Reflections from a Year 2:
For the laying out of the Pre-Camp Inspection that we have sent in the proposal, I feel that we should have worked faster. There should have also been more constant 报时 because we lost track of the time in the midst of laying out the first time. When asked to pack up, we tried to 报时 more and also asked for time extension in advance and not when the time was already up. From this I learnt that our patrol must develop a greater sense of urgency and also be more vigilant in 报时-ing. I have also learnt that PLs must step up more and look at the bigger picture instead of just doing their own layouts.

3. Rationale
Reflections from a Year 2:
For this station, our patrol was told to give four of our logistics to the seniors and we were tested on the rationales of these logs, such as what colours and designs of the logistics represented. I tried my best to recall what I memorized from the rationales, but I feel like it was still difficult for me to answer all the questions without repetitive answers, since there were many designs of the same colours that represented similar things. I managed to tell the seniors of the representations of colours and designs for two different logistics, but struggle for the other two. It made me realize that I should be more prepared and spread out my time more to understand the representations of each logistics’ design and colours, or it would be hard to remember them clearly since every design and colour has its own meaning.

4. Preparedness
Reflections from a Year 2:
For the drawing of the Pre-Camp Inspection layout, I felt that my patrol has done a decent job as we had drawn majority of the layout within the timespan of 8 minutes. Furthermore, we were able to draw the correct orientation of the items, allowing the layout to be more detailed. However, we did not realised that we were able to ask for time extension. Overall, I felt that the drawing of the inspection layout has indeed put our preparedness to test as it has shown how much everyone in our patrol has remembered from the layout. It was a challenging yet fun process as we were unable to communicate with one another. This has equipped us to do better in the inspection.

5. Patrol Morale and Familiarity with Songs and Cheers and Attire
Reflections from a Year 2:
For the Precamp Inspection morale, songs & cheers and attire station, our patrol was mainly more familiar with our cheers more than our songs, especially the Chinese song. We were extremely unconfident of our chinese song that the IC had to prompt us to start our Chinese song. As the purpose of songs and cheers are to boost our patrol morale for increased efficiency so that we could get our things done faster, I think we should be more familiarized with all our patrol songs and cheers. As for our attire, I think that it was pretty standard except for our scarfs. As we had PT station before attire check, our scarfs were crumpled, slanted etc. We could have helped each other tidy our guides uniform after PT.

6. Physical Training
Reflections from a Year 2:
During the Pre-Camp Inspection, there was a PT station where we had to complete as many circuits as we can within 7 minutes. however, as my patrol did not work fast enough, we only managed to complete 1 circuit. however, I felt that we got closer as a patrol because of the teamwork built by waiting for one another and cheering. on the other hand, we should also try our best to work faster so as to complete more circuits within the given time. furthermore, we should 报时 more often so as to keep track of the time and develop a greater sense of urgency so we can work faster.

As Pre-Camp Inspection ended, this would soon mark the beginning of ATC’19 in a week!

1.0 Day One
On 2nd November 2019, the trainees and counsellors went to 集合 at the DHS Foyer. Before going to Camp Christine, the logistics were moved onto the lorry. After ensuring we were prepared, the trainees and counsellors boarded the bus that would bring us to Camp Christine!

1.1 In-Camp Inspection
Upon arrival at Camp Christine, the logistics on the truck as well as the trainees’ and counsellors’ personal logistics were unloaded from the lorry and bus respectively. Inspection began immediately after the administrative matters had been settled. The trainees had personal logistics inspection, where they had to layout their personal logistics according to a proposal that they had submitted prior to the start of camp. They would layout their logistics multiple times, each time with a different scenario, for example, having someone explaining a new layout to the 团, or creating a new layout by themselves on the spot.

Reflections from a Year 1:
Upon arrival, we had to 集合 at our Chalet for In-Camp inspection. My first impression of In-Camp Inspection was that it was very different from patrol logistics inspection as instead of the whole patrol working together on the layout, we had to rely on ourselves to complete the layout. This meant that I had to work faster so as to not 过时 as I had to work alone. However, due to the fact that we had to lay out our personal logistics on our own, we might have been too focused on ourselves and might have forgotten that we still have to look out for one another. This has led to our peers being kapped. Additionally, as we were in a rush, we might also leave some logistics at the side, causing us to forget about it. Thus, our own logistics have been kapped as well. Hence, through In-Camp Inspection, I realised that we should look out for our peers no matter what and that it is important to take care of our logistics, be it during inspection or any other activity.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For In-Camp Inspection, we had to firstly lay out all our personal logistics according to the layout we have planned beforehand within the time limit of 3 minutes. During the first inspection, it felt like a mess as we did not managed to compact our layouts so that there were 6 distinct rows to represent each patrol. Furthermore, there was no constant 报时 and we did not really 照顾好东西 and 照顾好人. As a result, some of our patrol mates and logistics got kapped.  For the second layout, we had to layout our logistics according to the inspection layout given to us. From that layout, I have learnt the importance of lowering our volumes during inspection as we could not hear the people giving out instructions clearly. However, our sense of urgency improved and we looked out for one another, resulting in lesser items and people being kapped. For the final layout, we had to listen to the people in charge and layout according to another layout given to us. For the final layout, the person in charge was my patrol mate, and thus I had to help her lay out her stuff along with another patrol member. It was challenging to manage two layouts at once as we had to look out for our stuff and hers. However, it had indeed been a unique experience and taught me the importance of team spirit as we had to help our patrol mate lay out her belongings while she was away, instead of just caring for our personal benefits.

1.2 Camp Development (Part I)
For Camp Development Part I, each patrol had to build the following structures:

1. Camp Christine Tent
2. Emergency Shelter
3. Gadget to Hold Banner
4. Flagpole

Other than the following structures built by trainees, the counsellors also built dome tents and the Company Flagpole (旗杆).

Reflections from a Year 1:
First we had to 集合 at Our Chalet to take the logistics required for Camp Development Part 1 which consisted of the Camp Christine tent, Emergency Shelter, Flagpole and gadget to hold banner. We started with the Camp Christine tent. We laid the tent and flysheet on the grass. After that we connected the poles and untied the strings. When we 起 the tent, we had to 定 the 2 opposite tent poles while the rest had to 打进 the tent pegs. At first, the structure was a bit wobbly so we had to 定 properly to stabilise it. There were many tent pegs and fly sheet pegs that we had to 打进 and so it took a very long time. Initially, since we were running out of time some of us wanted to build another structure first but we were not allowed to so we had to speed up. We had to 报时 more so we can work faster. Finally, the tent was completed. We split up our manpower so that we could complete the remaining structures. Unfortunately, our poncho had a hole in it so I had to run back to get another one. Other than that the other structures were built successfully even though some of us especially the Year 1s had to run back and forth to help our seniors. Overall I learnt a lot from this and it was very fun.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For Camp Development Part 1, we had to build our Camp Christine Tent, as well as our flag, gadget to hold banner and our emergency shelter. Since we had learnt how to build the Camp Christine Tent before the Annual Training Camp, we were somehow sure of what to do, which quickened the process a lot. As I was the Patrol Leader for Camp Development Part 1, I had to step out to see the whole situation, which I failed to do so at the start so our counsellors had to prompt me. As our patrol finished building our Camp Christine Tents first, we helped the other patrols until the Camp Development in-charge told us we can start on our other Camp Development Part 1 structures. As we are a big 7 man patrol, we split ourselves to complete all remaining 3 structures (gadget to hold banner, flag, emergency shelter) concurrently, making use of our manpower more efficiently. Although we may face some difficulties such as not having enough people to 抽, we managed to complete our structures. Since our patrol used fat 中木 for emergency shelter, it was a bad decision as the poncho kept sliding off, causing our whole emergency shelter to 垮.

1.3 Camp Development (Part II)
After having lunch, the trainees continued with Camp Development Part II. where they had to build the following structures:

1. Kitchen Shelter (2 patrols to build 1 Kitchen Shelter)
2. Creative Gadget
3. Fire Altar + Dustbin

Reflections from a Year 1:
Camp Development Part 2 was slightly tiring but it was still very fruitful. We 过时 a lot when building the kitchen shelter. As a result, we had very little time to build our creative gadgets later and we also did not have time to build our fire altar. Hence, it is important to allocate our manpower properly and manage our time better to ensure that we have time to complete all the structures. From the experience, I learnt that we need to 报时 more often to make sure that we are on time and that we can ask for time extension in advance to prevent us from 过时. Cheering is also highly essential.  All of us might feel very tired from building the kitchen shelter under the hot sun. Thus, it is very important to cheer more to increase the patrol's morale. I also learnt the importance of teamwork during this activity. Without the help of the patrol leader's looking at the bigger picture and the other patrol mates, we would not have successfully built the kitchen shelter. Although we have finished building the kitchen shelter, we feel that there is still a lot we can improve on such as our lashes. We can also take note on the little details that might affect the outcome of the structure such as reducing the 麻绳 length between the 木 and the canvas sheet. Overall, we felt that everyone did their best and contributed.

Reflections from a Year 2:
During Camp Development Part 2, I was Patrol Leader of my patrol. I was given the opportunity to step up. I felt that this was outside of my comfort zone as I am not usually brave enough to step up and lead. At first, we had a delay as we retrieved the wrong sizes of canvas sheets from the frontier in school. My patrol's was too long and some were too small. We eventually solved this problem and we could 起 the Kitchen Shelter. We made sure to check that the Mickey Mouse hitches were facing inwards and the wind direction. However, we forgot to stretch out the canvas sheet fully. In the end, we had to 倒 the Kitchen Shelter and fix the issue, and also tighten our lashes to make sure the structure was secure. We even had  to remove all our guidelines and retake pacings, which definitely delayed the entire process. We finally 起 the structure again and i was given the chance to look at the big picture from afar, to make sure the structure was not slanted. I think I learned to step back and look at the overall structure instead of focusing on the smaller details, though they are also important. I had to assign tasks to different people and I tried to initiate cheers to keep our morale high. I wanted to encourage everyone to work faster, so our counselor gave me some deadlines, and I also had to set short term goals, such as finishing all the main guidelines by a certain time. I had to communicate with my patrol so that they could be aware of what was going on. These were some things I learnt from ATC, that i did not know before. I also had to take the initiative to ask for time extensions when they were needed. Camp Development Part 2 was not very successful due to some of the setbacks we faced, but I found that I learnt a few leadership skills from this activity.

1.4 Physical Training
The trainees had physical training to improve their stamina as well as bond them by completing the tiring training together. After stretching, they headed to their respective stations.

Station 1:
The objective of this station was to instill a sense of determination and resilience in trainees. The circuit consisted of the following exercises:
1. 15 Burpees
2. 30 Jumping Jacks
3. 1 length of Lunges
4. 1 length of Crabwalk
5. Running 2 rounds around Pax Lodge

Station 2:
This stations objective was to allow the trainees to have fun and bonding within the 团 and patrols. Here is the storyline:

The citizens of Vancluse are kind and caring people, hence they had suggested to us to make this Physical Training in a form of a game so that you protectors would not be too stressed. This is a game of scissors-paper-stone, but there’s a catch. Before every round, one person is to roll a dice, and receive a set of PT. Number 1 represents 20 burpees, number 2 represents 2 minute leg raise, number 3 represents 1 minute 战马, number 4 represents 1 minute pumping position, number 5 represents 30 Jumping Jacks, and number 6 represents 30 squats. Everyone is to complete the chosen PT together at the same time, then proceed to play the game. You are to find someone who is not from your patrol to play with. This will repeat for 10 minutes, and the person rolling the dice is to be different each round. The trainee who has the most number of people behind her at the end of the game, will be the winner and will earn bonus points for her patrol!

Mass Station:
This is the storyline for the Mass Station:

After completing the workshop, the protectors are feeling very buff, and decide to continue along their journey. Along the way, they meet people from another galaxy, the Way Milky, who agree to help you with your mission under one condition - that you beat them in a contest of physical ability. This is your final test on your strength and bravery. Will you have the willpower to strive on, and win the help of these people?

The trainees had to follow along a 10 minute workout video, with a water break halfway through.

Reflections from a Year 1:
For our Physical Training, we had to roll a dice and the number we get is the given physical training. After each round of physical training, we would play scissors, paper and stone with one another. This would then repeat until there is a winner. the second part of PT is where we were given a set of physical training and we have to complete as many circuits as we can. I feel that we cheered and 报时 a lot during these two stations which makes our morale higher and we feel motivated to do even better. The last station was a chicken fight with two other patrols. Unfortunately, my patrol was the first to get eliminated because all of our members got kicked out to the out area. This activity helps to bond our patrol as we work together as one and try our best to help each other. Even though we lost, we did not feel discouraged and this in fact made us work even harder for the rest of the activities.

Reflections from a Year 2:
We had three stations for our Physical Training. At the first station, we were given a dice and one person would have to roll it in order to receive a given pt. After a PT is done, we would have to play scissors, paper, stone with another group. The group that loses has to go to the back of the winner and it the game continues on. During second station, we were given a circuit of PT to complete and we had to complete as many circuits as we can. Even though we did not do many circuits, I feel that we cheered a lot which helped to boost our morale. The last station was where we had to do a chicken fight. However, my patrol ended up being the first one to be eliminated as we were all pushed to the out area. However, our patrol spirit was still very good and we continued to work even harder. This did not affect us but instead encouraged us to do even better for the rest of the activities during ATC.

1.5 Night Games
After Dinner and Shower, Night Games started. Here is the first storyline:
Storyline 1
Switch off lights before Trainees enter

[Narrator 1]
/screams and crashes into the door/
HELP! HELP ME! She’s here, she’s coming! Please, help me, I don’t want to die...

[Narrator 1]
/grabs one of the Trainees/
Please, don’t leave me to Christine…

[Narrator 1]
/cries in pain/
I’ve seen what’s she’s done… she’s behind all of this, the meteor… the suffering… the deaths, all of it! I was stuck, stuck with all the bodies, stuck with all the Lost Souls! I found a way out, but she saw me. And now she’s coming...

[Fake Christine]
/banging on the doors outside My Cabana/
Where are you…..

[Narrator 1]
/frantically grabs one of the Trainees/
No...no...no! She’s here. Don’t leave me, not with that FACELESS skull. I can’t go back there! PLEASE, HELP ME!

[Fake Christine]
/opens the back door/
There you are.

/Fake Christine drags Narrator 1 away/
/Narrator 1 screams/

After the trainees heard the first storyline, they headed to their respective stations.

Station 1:
Christine has deprived the Lost souls, her servants and minions, of the very thing they need to see, and of what hope is represented by - Light. Desperately craving light, they have gone past the brink of sanity in desperate search of it. The patrol would have to search for 4 different sources of light (match sticks, lighter, torchlight with batteries and glow sticks. There would be additional objects hidden to confuse the patrol. The Match Stick Box would be hidden in a shoebox filled with paper.

ACT 1.1
/Lost Soul 1 rocks back and forth in a sitting position on the ground, staring blankly at the torchlight in her hand, clicking it to the on and off button. The torchlight does not have batteries, and does not turn on/
[Lost Soul 1]
/repeats while clicking the torchlight repeatedly/
No, no, no, no… Light… how could she take all of it? I need light…

[Lost soul 1]
/looks up at patrol. Voice starts off soft, rises into a higher pitch at the end/
Do you have light? No? Then if I sacrifice you to her, will I have light then?

[Lost Soul 1]
/murmur/
But has she ever honoured her deals? NO!

[Lost Soul 1]
/smiles eerily/
But maybe… you can help me?

[Lost Soul 1]
/tugs on Trainees/`
Bring me 4 different sources of light. Fail, and I will sacrifice your souls to her myself.

[Lost soul 1]
/offhandedly, as patrol starts to leave/
Oh, one more thing. This place was once rumoured to have been a safe haven and granted some people what they seek. Keep your eyes peeled, and you may find something useful.

/If patrol does not react/
[Lost soul 1]
Well? Why aren't you moving? Get to work! 10 minutes. NOW!

ACT 1.2
/Lost Souls 1 tries to kap Trainees throughout ACT 1.2/

At 5 minute interval

[Lost Soul 1]
You know… stars have light…
/laughs/

/Lost Soul 1 starts playing creepy recording of Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars/

At 8 minute interval

/Lost Soul 1 grabs at Trainees/

[Lost Soul 1]
/shrieks/
Have I been wrong to trust you? Have I? Maybe I should have sacrificed you instead...
/laughs hysterically/

ACT 1.3
(If patrol succeeds)

[Lost Soul 1]
FINALLY! Give it!
/snatches light sources/

[Lost Soul 1]
/grudgingly/
If you could find the impossible, you can take down Christine. Take this hint, and save all the lost souls. GO!

Act 1.4
(If patrol fails)

[Lost Soul 1]
YOU FAILED.

/Lost Soul 1 starts grabbing Trainees/
/Counsellors rush Trainees out of station/

Station 2:
With the exception of the doll, the Demon Child has been alone for a long time ever since the meteor strike. The patrol is the first form of life she has seen during her isolation, and she desperately wants to be friends. She also knows of a vital piece of information about Christine. But before the Demon Child trusts them with her secret, they must use the  clue she has given them (Prop 2.1) and search for the other components (Prop 2.2, 2.3, and the locked case). To solve for the combination on the locked box, the patrol has 10 minutes to decipher Riddle 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 to figure out the orientation of Prop 2.2 and align it on top of Prop 2.1. It would reveal a color combination, whereby the patrol would then need to match the colors to the colored objects (Prop 2.3) which would have coded numbers on them. They would have to decipher the coded numbers to find out a combination based on the color sequence, which would then open the locked case. Inside the case would be Clue 2.1.

ACT 2.1
/Demon Child sits pitifully in a corner, staring at the ground. She never looks up, even when the patrol enters the room or when she’s speaking/

[Demon Child]
/feebly/
Are you here to mock my predicament? Watch my pitiful, broken form, to laugh at me? Huh? Why else are you here? This is no place for living souls...

[Demon Child]
/voice rises to a screech/
Not unless you want yours taken too! Do you?! Why then do you mock me?!

[Demon Child]
/voice falls back to the original soft one/
Do you want to know a secret?

[Demon Child]
/grins eerily, before looking up, singsonging/
I can tell you~

[Demon Child]
/points to Station Clue 2.1 on the floor/
/singsongs/
If you can solve it, you may just be worthy to get a very special secret.

[Demon Child]
/snickers/
But if not? Who knows what might happen to you... Tick- tock, tick-tock… You have 10 minutes... before I change my mind.

/singsongs/
Hurry~

/continues observing the patrol from her seated position/

ACT 2.2
[Demon Child]
/stands up and starts grabbing Trainees/

It was so lonely. So cold, so dark. I didn’t ask for this. Maybe, maybe you would stay here with me? We can all be friends. That’s why you came right? To keep me company?! I only had my doll with my side… but I’ll share her with you if you stay!

/Demon Child drags Doll towards patrol/

[Doll]
/mechanically/
My name is baibai. I’ll be there to entertain you, keep you company, and most importantly, I’ll be there to watch your every move. Even as you sleep, I will continue to guard you with my perfectly carved glossy eyes. Please be friends with my mama. She means you no harm.
/starts grabbing Trainees/

[Demon Child]
/sits back down and starts crying/
No one wants to be with me… why? WHY? Why don’t you just STAY! I don’t want to be by myself anymore! STAY WITH ME!

/starts banging the door in a tantrum/

[Doll]
/grabbing Trainees/
Stay with my mama. Stay with her. She does not want to be alone. Accompany her for me, won’t you?

[Demon Child]
/stands up to start grabbing Trainees/

Promise me, promise that we’ll be best friends… All you have to do is follow me to her, to Christine. It doesn’t hurt, I promise. Friends don’t lie.

[Demon Child]
Tick tock…

[Demon Child]
/grins eerily/
... time’s almost up!

Station 3:
In one of the many prisons Christine has set up to guard those she deems traitors, immortal prison guards keeps lost souls who tried to escape captive. Prison Guard 1 a Christine loyalist, and seeks to test those whom she thinks opposes the almighty. When the patrol enters the prison, Prison Guard 1 takes this opportunity to test their loyalties. With masking tape, and arrow would be drawn out where cups of different heights, colours and patterns would be randomly laid out on the tail of the arrow. The head of the arrow refers to the right side of the arrangement. The patrol has 10 minutes to sort out the cups by height, colour, and pattern, with a maximum of 5 tries. When the patrol thinks that they have finished arranging, they would ring a bell placed next to the head of the arrow, and the Station Masters would check their arrangement. They would tell them exactly how many cups are arranged in the right order, without telling them which of the cups are arranged correctly. To pass the station, the patrol must correctly arrange all the cups in the right order within 5 tries and under 10 minutes.

ACT 3.1
[Prison Guard 1]
Well, well, well. Look what we have here. It’s been a long time since we had visitors.
/laughs evilly/

[Prison Guard 1]
TOO MANY FOOLS HAS BEEN HERE, but they never left, not whole… They were all disloyal, dishonest, CONSPIRING AGAINST OUR SAVIOR CHRISTINE. Vile creatures, those traitors, don’t you think? You better not be one of them! WELL? ARE YOU?
/laughs/

[Prison Guard 1]
Why are you afraid? ARE YOU A TRAITOR? There is a test for traitors. To weed out the vermin. I will give you a chance, ONE chance to prove yourselves. These cups on the floor are alI arranged in random order. Only the last cup is in the correct order. Arrange them in the correct order, and I will let you go freely. Only the most loyal would have the intelligence to sort them out. 10 minutes is all you have. IF you think you have sorted them all out, ring the bell. Once 5 tries are up, you shall rot in this prison forevermore. BEGIN!
/laughs/

ACT 3.2
/Prison Guard 1 and 2 to try to kap Trainees throughout ACT 3.2/

[Prison Guard 1]
/singsongs/
Christine is ALMIGHTY. Sure you can succeed?

[Prison Guard 1]
5 minutes in, and that’s your progress? Have to say, I am DISAPPOINTED.

[Prison Guard 1]
YOU CALL THAT LOYALTY? I MIGHT AS WELL LOCK YOU UP NOW.

ACT 3.3
(if patrol succeeds)
[Prison Guard 1]
/reluctantly/
You succeeded. I honestly thought that I would be able to torture you today… But loyal subjects are not worthless. LEAVE, and forever bow down to Christine, our SAVIOR and MIGHT!

ACT 3.4
(if patrol fails)
[Prison Guard 1]
Your lack of loyalty towards Christine is ABYSMAL! Even the conspirators would do better than you. You don’t deserve to be in this 1st class world. GET OUT before I LOCK YOU UP!!

Station 4:
A lonely mother who has always been separated from her injured daughter. But between The Mother and Daughter is a fatal and dangerous landmine. The patrol has to successfully pass through the landmine to get to the daughter, but should anyone step incorrectly, the patrol member would be kapped. However, if the potion is found, one patrol member is able to take it so as to ensure that they are able to get across safely without setting off any of the landmines. Once the patrol passes through the landmine, they would have to treat the Injured Daughter to reunite her with The Mother.

ACT 4.1
[The Mother]
Daughter… daughter… don’t worry, mummy’s here.

[The Mother]
She’s always been such a bad child… Always running away… Tell me, have I not been a good mother? I always wash her bruises, nurse her bloody wounds, but she never listens! And now, she’s got herself stuck behind a landmine… Please, help me get across...

[The Mother]
/tugs at Trainees/gg
Help me! Her wounds are going to be infected… she NEEDS me! She’ll die…

[The Mother]
Find a path across the landmine, one at a time.  Only a few tiles ensure your safety… but if you step on a bomb? Then I guess, rest in pieces…
/laughs/

[The Mother]
But I found a solution. I found a potion...the label says that a living soul who takes the potion is able to get across the landmine safely without setting off any of the landmines. I can’t seem to find it again though...

[The Mother]
/grasps a patrol member’s arm tightly, pleads/
Will you go across and help my daughter?

[The Mother]
/grasps another patrol member’s arm desperately/
Or will you?

[The Mother]
/murmurs/
I want to go… but I can’t. The label says it won’t have any effect on lost souls. I can’t risk it.

[The Mother]
/louder/
The rest of you… remember to check the floor if you had stepped on the bombs… and if you did, I don’t mind having to look after more children, dead or lost. Hurry… wounds get infected quickly… you have 6 minutes to get to my daughter. GO!!

/The Mother to kap everyone who steps on a bomb and bring them to the side. They are only allowed to help patrol only from side of landmines/

Act 4.2
(If patrol succeeds in crossing the landmine)
[The Mother]
My daughter, can you treat her? She has sprained ankle and a fractured collarbone… Save her and bring her back to me. QUICKLY! I need to be with her. 4 minutes! She can’t walk… you have to carry her back.

ACT 4.3
(If patrol succeeds)
[The Mother]
Daughter… Don’t you dare run away from me again. Shhh… In fact… you would never be able to run away again.

/Injured Daughter screams/

/Counsellor rushes the Patrol out/

Station 5:
The Mad Scientist was in the midst of completing his experiment on the Lab Rat when Christine took his soul. He was unable to finish his experiment due to losing his progress in his results, hence needing the patrol to get his results back for him to complete his experiment. The patrol will have to pass through an obstacle course one at a time to retrieve post-its (Riddles 5.1-5.6). However, only one post-it can be received per round. The patrol would then solve the riddle where the bolded words are written in guides’ code to find the answers to the Mad Scientist’s experiment.

ACT 5.1
[Mad Scientist]
Shut up! Do you think science comes so easily? That breakthroughs are mere occurrences?

[Mad Scientist]
/bitterly/
No one around here appreciates my contributions. From her to you, I’m ALWAYS DISRUPTED!

[Mad Scientist]
UGH! I can’t do this anymore! All my results, all my hard work, WASTED!

[Mad Scientist]
/softly/
Unless… you get it for me… that’s why you’re here… to be my new assistants!
/laughs/

[Mad Scientist]
/commanding, pointing at obstacle course/
Go through the black hole and retrieve all my experiment results for me. But the pressure only allows one to go through at once, and if one of you takes more than one set of results at a time… let’s just say you won’t live to see the light of day… not as a living being, that is, if you catch my drift.

[Mad Scientist]
/contemplatively/
Find me my results of the 6 elements from the periodic table key to my experiment… unless you want to be next.

/Lab Rat screams/

[Mad Scientist]
/passes them a pen and paper/
10 minutes. Before the beast I created mutates into something much, much worse.

ACT 5.2
[Mad Scientist]
HURRY UP! I’ve waited TOO long to complete my experiment. Do you want me to fail?!

[Mad Scientist]
My beast is hungry… Do you know what I do to my assistants who fail me?
/laughs/

ACT 5.3
(If patrol solves the riddles, and gets the answer)
[Mad Scientist]
GIVE IT! Finally!

[Mad Scientist]
/stares at paper/
I should have known, that the fundamental theory that my experiment has been based off were the elements of life!

[Mad Scientist]
Now, MOVE! OUT OF MY WAY! With these elements, I can finally get back to work! So, I need space to work! GET OUT!

[Mad Scientist]
/contemplative expression, while looking at Lab Rat/
Unless…her time is almost up. Do you want to be my next lab rat?

/Mad Scientist runs towards patrol to kap them/

Station 6:
Triplet 1 and 2 were separated from their last sister during the meteor strike. They are worlds apart, and to connect back with her, Triplet 1 and 2 needs to find a potion locked in Christine’s secret vault (Case), that would allow them to communicate with the world of the living. The patrol has to look around for a list of 20 riddles (Riddle 6.1), where each riddle would be attached to a letter or number (ie 1/A/a). They would also need to find 7 post-its, which would corroborate 7/20 of the answers of the riddles given. By connecting the answers to the corresponding riddle, they would find out the combination of 7 numbers and letters, where when aligned in a 7-digit dial locked box (Prop 6.1), a key would drop out. This key would open the vault (Case), where the potion would be held. No clues would be given at this station.

/Triplet 1 and 2 to link arms throughout the entire station/

ACT 6.1
/Triplet 1 and 2 to speak in a high voice throughout ACT6.1/

[Triplet 2]
Look… people.

[Triplet 1]
They can help us… Are you here to help us? We miss her…

[Triplet 2]
… Very, very dearly. She took two,

[Triplet 1]
But left one. And now,

[Triplet 2]
We’re worlds apart. Triplets only work in threes…

[Triplet 1]
… That’s why we need her back. There is a potion…

[Triplet 2]
But it is hidden, locked, unfound…

[Together]
Find it. NOW!

[Triplet 1]
We’ll only wait for 12 minutes…

[Triplet 2]
…Unless one of you would like to replace her… And become the third.
/laughs together/

Act 6.2
(Whenever Trainees find out the answer to a riddle without the post-it)
[Triplet 1]
One step closer…

[Triplet 2]
A piece of the puzzle obtained…

ACT 6.3
/Triplets 1 and 2 to try to kap Trainees throughout ACT 6.2/

At 4 minutes interval

[Triplet 2]
Do you know how it feels? To have your world crumble, to have a sibling snatched away, to be separated and deprived of a missing third. DO YOU?

[Triplet 1]
Not only have we suffered, but imagine her being all alone. You’d better find that potion…just imagine what we’d do to you if you didn’t.
/laughs together/

[Triplet 2]
Don’t you understand? We MISS her! So WHY do you still deprive us of her?!

[Triplet 1]
Do you NOT want us to be connected again? That potion, it would allow us…

[Triplet 2]
… To connect with the living. DO YOU NOT WANT THAT FOR US?

[Triplet 1]
Time is not in your favor… Hurry…

[Triplet 1]
WHERE IS...

[Triplet 2]
...OUR POTION?!

ACT 6.4
 (If Patrol succeeds)
[Triplet 1]
GIVE IT TO US!
/snatches the potion/

[Triplet 2]
WELL? What are you waiting for?!

[Together]
GET OUT!!!

Mass Games:
The patrols have found Christine's daughter. They are now trying to glean information on Christine's whereabouts and identity through her. However, they encounter a problem when Christine's daughter refuses to give up the hint, and when she finally does, the hint is a puzzle they have to piece together to find out who and where Christine is. Trainees would then have to find Christine, who is hiding at Pax Lodge, and say the exorcism spell (Under ‘additional clues’).

Trainees to 集合 inside Our Chalet. Once counsellors assemble the juniors, they are to hide around Our Chalet.
No Counsellors in Our Chalet.
Christine’s Daughter is already waiting in Our Chalet.

[Christine’s daughter]
WHAT are you doing HERE? Do you not realize the danger you are putting ME in?

[Christine’s daughter]
I’ve been watching you, I KNOW you are trying to destroy my mother. But you have been careless, so so CARELESS!
/Counsellors start banging on the doors/

[Christine’s daughter]
She sees what I see. She knows who you are. ALL OF YOU!

[Christine’s daughter]
WHY WON’T YOU LEAVE?! Are you not scared?!
/Counsellors stop banging on the doors/

[Christine’s daughter]
/scoffs/
Fine, since you want to fight,  I’ll try to buy you some time. 15 MINUTES! FIND MY MOTHER OR BE FOUND!
/Christine’s daughter hands Trainee the remaining clue/
/Exit Christine’s daughter/

Storyline 3A
(If Trainees have found Christine at Pax Lodge)

[Christine]
SOULS. DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I AM THE ALMIGHTY CHRISTINE!

[Christine]
/smirks/
I suppose you think yourself so mighty, as were all those before you who thought they could challenge me. Well, be prepared to face your downfall.

/Christine runs towards patrol, lost souls who are loyal to her flanking her/

Storyline 3B
(If Trainees successfully say the exorcism spell)

[Christine]
/shrieks/
NO!!! I AM immortal, the ALMIGHTY, how DARE YOU?
/screams and flees/

Turn on Lights, end of Night Games.

Storyline 3C
(If Trainees fail to say the exorcism spell after 1 minute)

[Christine]
/false cheeriness/
Well, I’m still here! Looks like you’ve FAILED.

[Christine]
/grins evilly/
NOW YOU SOULS ARE MINE!
/screams/

/Christine tries to grab Trainees/
Turn on lights, end of Night Games.

Storyline 3D
(If Trainees are unable to find Christine at all)
/Laughter is heard from outside Pax Lodge/

[Christine]
Looking for me?

[Christine]
/smirks/
Too bad I’ll be the last thing you’ll ever see!
/screams/

Turn on lights, end of Night Games

Reflections from a Year 1:
For night games, we had to attempt the many different challenges set up for us, in the different 6 locations. The storyline was well-written and I felt mesmerised by the plot and absorbed in the story itself. The night game helped us to bond with each other as we had to look out for one another in order to not get kapped. We learned the value of 照顾好人 as well as teamwork. We had to combine and share the clues each patrol had collected from each station to find the person, instilling the value of a 全团 effort. It was a unique experience and I had fun solving the challenging riddles and games set up by the Year 3s. I felt that if we had listened out for the storyline, we would have picked up the hints given and better understand the situation, which would in turn help us solve the mystery. Overall, we had fun and was an enjoyable experience.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For Night Games, the storyline was about this person named Christine and the lost souls. There were 6 stations in total and we had to complete them and find out who was Christine within the time given. I feel that the station where we had to rearrange the cups was the hardest as we had no clue at all. When one of the counsellors started singing the alphabet song, most of us thought that we had to arrange by colour instead of by height, pattern and colour. Hence, I feel that this station was the hardest as we had to guess the arrangement of the cups. I feel that if we worked faster and communicate better as a 团, we would have been able to find out who was the victim and who was Christine as the article given to us provided a lot of clues. Furthermore, if we organised ourselves better, we would have been able to finish putting the picture pieces given to us together and find out who was Christine.

2.0 Day Two

2.1 升旗
In the morning, the trainees and counsellors changed into their 全制 for 升旗 at Brown Sea. After the Guides 排马蹄, the Company Flag was raised by the 团升旗手. Afterwhich, the patrol flagpoles were raised by each patrol 升旗手.

2.2 Morning Physical Training
After breakfast, Day Two started with Morning PT! This allowed them to start the day off with a fun activity and promote bonding within the patrol. The trainees played Captains Ball and followed a workout video for Mass PT.

Reflections from a Year 1:
One of the activities we had during Morning Physical Training is Captains’ Ball. Due to numerous casualties from the previous night, some patrols were severely lacking in manpower. However, we were still able to cooperate well with one another to play and score points in the game. The grass was wet making the ground slippery so we had to be cautious and not play so recklessly in order to stay safe. As for the patrols with lack of manpower, our patrol decided to go easy on them and nonetheless we had lots of fun. Throughout all the games, we were just having friendly matches with one another which was good because it meant that no one would be holding grudges with the other person. Even though we did not win, we all still had a really fun and enjoyable time. This also helps to warm our muscles up in the morning. All in all, it was a fun activity, not only it lifted our mood, it also was a great team bonding activity.

Reflections from a Year 2:
Morning Physical Training was held in the Olave Hall and we had to change into our Physical Training Kit in order to carry out this activity. The counsellors played a video and we had to follow the people in the video and carry out the various exercises. I felt that it was quite fun as the video was very upbeat and made all of us hyped. It was also very different from the Physical Training which we do not usually do. In addition to the video, we also played captains ball. Captain’s ball was a very refreshing activity for us to play as a patrol because the dynamics of how this game works required a different kind of cooperation between each other. This also gave us a chance to bond as a patrol. We were also given the chance to play and interact with other patrols. Which thus, helped us strengthen and foster the bond between each patrol, helping us bond as a 团.

2.3 Mystery Games
During Mystery Games, the trainees had to go from station to station to complete different activities.

Reflections from a Year 1:
The first part of the first station required the members of each patrol to be blindfolded and form the first four letters of the patrol name using 麻绳 within a time limit. The letters had to be standardised in size. Two members were not blindfolded but could only give instructions to fellow members and were not allowed to touch the 麻绳. This activity helped us learn to communicate effectively. The second part of this station required us to form an odd shape, again with only two members not blindfolded. We learned to express our thoughts in a creative manner. The first part of the second station required three patrols to sit in a circle and three of us had to stand at any one point in time. Being unable to have a distinct pattern, we learned to think out of the box to solve problems. In the second part, each patrol had to flip a poncho over while ensuring our feet did not touch the ground. This task was hard, but after sharing our strategies with each other, all of us succeeded, thus displaying the importance of cooperation and 团 effort.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For Mystery Games, there were 2 stations. The first station in which we had one year 1 and one year 2 to step up while the other patrol members would have to blindfold themselves. The 2 patrol members without blindfolds would have to give instructions to the rest, guiding them to form a specific picture with instructions through words. It was a pretty hard game, testing our communication and leadership skills. The 麻绳 kept curling up, and we had to be really careful not to mess up the shapes/letters we had created before while forming other letters/shapes. The second station was everyone squatting down to form a huge circle, each time having 3 people standing, no more no less. It requires each and every one to be alert and work closely with each other. Next each patrol had to flip the poncho around without our feet touching the ground and hands touching the poncho. We had a lot of fun and some of us balanced on our knees while some of us put our feet on the poncho. We used our feet and elbows to flip our poncho. In conclusion, these mystery games tests our patrol as well as 团 synergy. It was really fun and enriching.

2.4 Outdoor Cooking
Next was Outdoor Cooking, where the trainees cooked the dishes they had planned under the Kitchen Shelter, using their Fire Altar.

Reflections from a Year 1:
We feel that Outdoor Cooking was very fun. It was the first time we cook our own lunch through the use of an indoor fire alter. It was a patrol bonding activity and all of our patrol mates were very cooperative and worked well together. Everyone contributed actively in their own ways. Some were busy trying to sustain the fire while others were cooking and preparing the ingredients. Through this Outdoor Cooking, we also got to practice our blowing to sustain the fire, which were the short-short-long puffs. It was a very memorable experience that we get to cook our food outdoors and eat it later. However, it was also a special experience as we had to use the indoor fire alter, outdoors as our kitchen shelter was unsteady and that our fire altars were not built. When we are eating our food as lunch, we felt that all the hard work was worth it.

Reflections from a Year 2:
I think that we did not do the best for ATC. However, I do think that everyone in the patrol was able to contribute to our dishes and we had enough dishes and dessert to present. Our counsellors were supportive and encouraged us to keep trying and to persevere. This enabled my patrol to have a closer bond with one another as we encourage each other and try our best to cook the dishes we have prepared to cook. Our kindlings were slightly damp so it was hard to start a fire. We had to ensure everything was cooked well enough and it was sanitary and hygienic. However, we managed to start a fire with the uses of fire starters. I have learnt to check our logistics before bringing them to Camp Christine. In the end, my patrol was able to work together and it was enjoyable overall, from planning our dishes to executing them.

2.5 Obstacle Journey
After eating the food they had cooked for lunch and changing into the OJ Kit, the trainees embarked on their Obstacle Journey! The Obstacle Journey consisted of 6 stations and a mass station. Here’s the storyline:

As the galaxy of Vancluse is destroyed by the meteor, all of you, as the 6 protectors of the galaxy, must unite to save the people of Vancluse. However, the road to saving the galaxy is not smooth and ahead of you are 6 major obstacles that will hinder your progress. Being the greatest protectors, you must overcome all these obstacles for the lives of the people and future of the galaxy. Each station puts various skills to the test. Good luck, and may the guiding light be with you.

After completing inspection to ensure they had all logistics needed for the Obstacle Journey, each patrol headed to their first station.

Station 1: Guides Code and Orienteering
  1. To test Trainees’ Guides-related knowledge on Guides’ Codes
  2. To allow Trainees to train their orienteering skills
  3. To test Trainees on their knowledge of the edibility test
  4. To allow trainees to have effective communication between one another
  5. To allow trainees to understand that every patrol member is important to succeeding as a team by contributing something, hence why teamwork and active participation is extremely important.

Introduction
Part 1: The meteor has caused extreme flooding across the planet as a large piece of debris has landed in the Ocean of Mysteries. You are lucky enough to escape from the floodwaters by climbing onto a nearby island, which has yet to be inundated by the floodwaters. However, you only have a limited amount of time before this island goes below the waters as well. Stranded on this island, your only chance of survival is to find a boat hidden somewhere on the island. In order to find the boat, you need to decipher the guides codes to obtain directions and bearings. These directions will guide your way through the island on the quest for the boat through orienteering.

You are to separate into two groups. 3 trainees are to join Group 1, and the rest are to join Group 2. Group 1 will be given a compass, and Group 2 will be given 3 sticky notes. Group 2 is to decode the sticky notes given using Guides’ Code and tell the other group the exact directions and bearings written in Guides Code on the post its. Group 1 is to use the directions given by Group 2 to orientate themselves and are not allowed to communicate or speak at all. Each person in Group 1 has to use the compass at least once, and once all 3 bearings are completed, they are to swap places with the trainees in Group 2. After that, those in Group 2  will be given 4 new bearings to decipher, and each trainee in Group 1 has to use the compass at least once. You have 9 minutes.

Part 2: You have realised that you do not have essential food for survival. You are to carry out an edibility test to find food that is crucial to your survival. Hence, all of you will line up in one line, and each of you is to say one step in preceding order until the edibility test is successfully completed.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For this Obstacle Journey station, there was 2 parts. First, we had to separate our patrol into 2. One to crack the guides code and one to find our path with the use of the compass. After 1 group have decoded the guides code, the other group is to find the next destination by using the instructions to orientate. I feel a little disappointed in myself as we were not efficient and wasted a lot of time when it came to decoding the guides code. There were some repeated words such as "bearings" and "pacings", which we spent much time figuring out. Furthermore, I was not confident in myself when it was my turn to use the compass. Secondly, we had to take turns going to the station master to say the steps for the edibilty test. However, I felt that my patrol did not read the guides thoroughly as most of us were unsure of the steps. Therefore, I feel that there is still room for improvement as we should be more prepared, just like our guides motto: Be Prepared, by familiarising ourselves with the guides notes and ensuring we were equipped with the necessary skills before Annual Training Camp as this camp is an opportunity to test our skills and not to just practise them. I hope to do better in such activities in the future.

Station 2: First Aid
  1. To revise on first aid skills
  2. To allow Trainees to manage their time well in completing the first aid
  3. To train the Trainees’ planning and prioritisation skills under stress

Introduction
The meteor has injured many people across the galaxy. As one of the protectors of the galaxy, you have the power to heal the people with your handy first aid kit that is always with you, whenever and wherever you are. However, in the midst of saving people, some of you had gotten hit by some of the small debris. Your fellow injured comrades only have a limited time left to live, and manpower and moral support is vital in this critical stage of life and death. This test of prioritisation and first aid skills is to prove yourself worthy of a protector of the galaxy and save your fellow comrades from the tragedy.

1 Year 1 and 1 Year 2, not the PL or PS, are to step out and 2 injuries per person will be given. They have to be treated within the time limit. They are not allowed to give any hints as to the treatment, but are allowed to disclose the time limit and type of injury.  Furthermore, 1 trainee is to step out every 2 minutes to answer a question on First-Aid, and repetition of the same trainees is not allowed until every trainee (exclusive of the injured trainees) has at least gone once.

Reflections from a Year 1:
The first aid course during the obstacle journey helped us revise on what we had learnt during 集合 and from the guides notes. Our knowledge were put to the test when we were given different situations and we had to answer those questions with the correct procedures.  For example, some of the questions asked were how to treat muscles cramp and a sprained ankle. Furthermore, each person has to go up to the counsellor to answer a question on first aid every 10 minutes which reduces our man power. However, this helped us brush up our first aid skills and allowed us to have a better understanding on it. In my opinion, I found this station very fun and enjoyable. Overall, this experience was enriching and allowed us to also gain leadership skills to guide our new batch of year ones next year. This station also allowed our patrol to bond together because we work together to solve the different problems.

Station 3: Survival Skills and Gadgeting
  1. To ensure trainees are equipped with basic survival skills, which is utilising and building a simple water filter
  2. To ensure trainees display good manpower allocation
  3. To ensure trainees can adapt in unforeseen circumstances and decide quickly on what choices they want to make
  4. To stimulate the creativity of trainees when building the emergency shelter.

Introduction
Part 1: Night has fallen and after a long day fighting for your survival to protect the galaxy, you are feeling hungry and thirsty. There is a water source around you, but you are not sure if they are safe for your consumption. If you consume them blindly, it could lead to your death, so you must be wary and find a way to give you the necessity to continue on your journey to save the galaxy.

Part 2: Not only that, but the weather has been unpredictable ever since the meteor had struck the galaxy. Heavy rain could fall at any moment and it is important to protect yourselves. You are required to build a structure that can shelter at least half of the patrol. Despite the damage done by the meteor, you can use the surrounding environment to your advantage. The water filtration structure is to be done alongside the building of the emergency shelter. Your patrol has 15 minutes to complete both activities before you get wet from the upcoming storm.

Reflections from a Year 1:
We split ourselves into two different groups for this station. The first group was in charge of making a water filter while the other group was in charge of building an Emergency Shelter. As for me, my group was building the Emergency Shelter. Since the station we were at had a staircase near us, we decided to build our Emergency Shelter there. We actually thought the steps were more complicated so we did extra steps to ensure that the Emergency Shelter would be taut. However, we still managed to complete it within the given time. As for the water filter, we could only use the items given to us which teaches us to make use of what we can find in our surroundings. However, our tripod was not able to stand well causing the bottle containing the pebbles to keep falling. As a result, we did not manage to complete the water filter on time as our tripod was not stable enough. Hence, I feel that we should brush up on our tying of tripod and revise on how to make a water filter. However, I think we did a good job on building the Emergency Shelter.

Station 4: Pioneering
  1. To revise their hard skills, especially lashes when pioneering
  2. Allow PLs to macromanage while PSs to micromanage when doing the activity. They are to step up and take charge of the building of the structure.
  3. To ensure that trainees take care of logistics and manpower
  4. To improve trainees’ sense of urgency, time management, manpower allocation, and creativity.

Introduction
With the infrastructure of Vancluse destroyed by the meteor, the citizens of Vancluse have a lack of places to seek refuge in. As the protectors of the galaxy, you have to create a structure that will benefit the citizens of Vancluse, and protect them from the elements. Using the materials provided, you have 18 minutes to build the structure. 1 minute will be given to you to discuss on what to build. Only the PL and PS are allowed to talk. The structure must be large enough to shelter the half of the patrol and elevate your water bottles and 配备.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For the creative pioneering station, we had to build a structure that could shelter at least 3 of our patrol members and also be able to hold our water bottles. As our patrol wanted to build 2 tripods, one with a canvas sheet over it for shelter and raft on the other to put our bottles, we split into 2 groups for better efficiency. However, as both groups are building our tripods far away from each other, as well as our logistics, many of our logistics, as well as one of our tripods and 3 manpower got kapped. From this station, I really learnt that we should do things as a whole patrol and always take care of our logistics well. Furthermore, patrol leaders and patrol second were the only ones who could talk in this station. Time extension was not given as the main aim of the station was for the patrol leaders and patrol second to have a clear plan of what we are going to do and instruct the other members. This station is pretty meaningful and from now on, I will try my best to work closely with every single one of my patrol members.

Station 5: Patrol Bonding
  1. To encourage patrol bonding between individual members
  2. To allow patrol members to step up, especially when they are able to do something that others with a specific handicap are unable to do
  3. To improve communication between patrol members, and trainees’ time management
  4. To ensure that trainees take care of their logistics and manpower

Introduction
Part 1: While travelling past a mountain, a meteor struck and in order to survive, you have decided to seek refuge in a cave. Unfortunately, the meteor triggered a landslide and caused a boulder to block the entrance of the cave. Luckily, there are post-it notes hidden in the cave will help you escape. For each riddle you solve, you will get either a letter or a string of letters. Once you solve all the riddles and get all the letters, you are to rearrange the letters into a word that will free you. But the air is gradually becoming thinner and you have 6 minutes to escape the cave, or else you will die. However, if you successfully complete certain obstacles, through having your fellow patrol members come up to answer a question, you will be given extra time, but failure to answer correctly could result in punishment.

However, the harsh conditions have caused all of you except the patrol leader and patrol second to be injured and have handicaps. 2 of you are to tie your ankles together with 白绳, 1 of you is to be blindfolded, while 1/2 of you (depending on the number of members present in the patrol) is/are to be mute. Make sure to take care of your logistics and patrol members as they could get lost in the dark cave.

Part 2: Although you have successfully escaped the cave, you are unable to travel far as the ground is uneven and hard to walk upon. In order to travel away from the mountain, you need to pass a test. Everyone is to line up in a straight line, facing the back of your patrol members. The first person in the line will be given a word and they are to draw a picture describing the word down onto a piece of paper. The second person in the line will have 5 seconds to see the drawing and 25 seconds to draw it down onto their own piece of paper. This will continue on until the last trainee in the line is to see the drawing, in which they will have to interpret the drawing and tell the SM what the word is. You are not to write any words in the drawing.  There will be two words tested separately.

Reflections from a Year 2:
The station required us to find post-it notes with riddles on them and to answer those riddles on the post-it notes. However, although the station seemed simple, the challenging part about the station was that some of us had to be blindfolded, some of us had to be mute and two members in the patrol had to have their feet tied together. Due to this, we had to find ways to communicate with each other. One of the methods that my patrol thought of was to get the patrol members who were mute to write the answers to the riddles on another person’s hand. Thus, from this activity, I have learnt that we had to find efficient methods to solve our problems and difficulties. I have also learnt the importance of our manpower and why we should 照顾好人. After that, we had to carry out an activity where we had to stand in line and pass different drawings down the line, which was somewhat like the game broken telephone. We had to look at the drawing of the person standing before us and then replicate a version of our own, to be passed down the line. After that, the last person of the line has to try to understand the drawing and guess the word. Through this activity, I have learnt the importance of communication.

Station 6: Survival Skills and First Aid
  1. To test trainees on their knowledge of trekking signs
  2. To ensure trainees can successfully build a signal fire and understand the purpose of it
  3. To test trainees’ first aid skills
  4. To test trainee’s adaptability to sudden situations

Introduction
Part 1: You are trekking through a forest trying to find adequate shelter for the next few days, when a when a meteorite crashes close by, effectively disrupting nearby magnetic fields and causing your transmission devices to be rendered useless. You only have 5 minutes to set up something that can catch others’ attention.

Part 2: Despite the effort put into setting up the signal fire, it still has not caught the attention of anyone and no help has arrived. Fortunately, one of you has discovered a few trekking signs etched into tree trunks that will provide you with the directions that you need to escape the forest. Be careful, as not all of the trekking signs are accurate. You have 5 minutes to escape.

Part 3: 3 minutes into your escape, one of your patrol members have been bitten by a snake, and the fang of the snake has broken off and is lodged in the injured trainee’s left leg. The snake appears to have a round head and round pupils. As you do not have the necessary materials needed to treat the injuries, you are to ensure the injured trainee gets out of the forest safely. Only then will you be given a first aid pouch needed to treat the injuries sustained. You are to 重计 11 minutes to escape the forest and treat the injuries sustained, starting now.

Reflections from a Year 2:
The station was to test if we read our guides notes and if we know our trekking signs. It was a difficult station as it did not only test our survival skills such as starting a signal fire and test us on our trekking signs, we also need to be very familiar with our first aid skills such as how to treat shock and what to do when someone is injured from punctures. I felt that our patrol did quite well in this station as we were able to start all three signal fire and we were generally quite familiar with our first aid knowledge. However, we must improve on our trekking signs as it took us a long time to identify each trekking sign which thus lead to us not being able to complete our task in the end. Apart from that, I felt that we could have cheered more especially when we were trying to start the signal fires as it was actually quite difficult to sustain all three fires at the same time and the fire always blows off when another lights up. Hence, we should cheer encourage each other not to give up until we succeed.

2.6 降旗
After changing into the Guides Uniform, the Company Flag and Patrol Flags were lowered.

2.7 Campfire
As night fell and the sky turned dark, the ATC’19 Campfire began. Each patrol took turns performing the performance they had previously rehearsed. The Song Leaders also performed each section of songs wonderfully and the emcees did well too. As they stood around the BP Ring and sang, the Guides joined in and sang along. Votes were cast, and P6 Scintillate was voted best patrol performance! Ms Lim, our Guider, gave the Campfire Yarn, which everyone enjoyed. Thank you to the Guiders who also helped with maintaining the fire. Without them, it would not have been a success! Also, thank you to the hardworking Song Leaders, who have practiced hard to perform these songs:

Reflections from a Year 1:
During dinner time and shower, we had time to practice our campfire performance. Sadly, my patrol did not have time as we ate dinner and showered a bit too slowly. Soon, it was time for the campfire. We had to 集合 at the BP Ring and put plenty of insect repellent as there were many mosquitoes there. Shortly after all of us sat around the BP ring, the campfire started. Each patrol performed skits and songs that they prepared beforehand and I had a great time watching them. In between patrols, the Song Leaders sang campfire songs and taught us the dances. When it was my patrol's turn to perform, I was very nervous. If I messed up, the whole skit would also be messed up. However, once I was standing behind the campfire I was not nervous anymore as the seniors were very supportive. Fortunately, everything went as planned and we successfully performed our skit. The seniors also cheered for us which made me feel happy.

Reflections from a Year 2:
For the Campfire I was really happy that we had good weather and could enjoy a real, burning campfire this year. Due to unexpected circumstances, we lost 3 of our people in my patrol and our campfire performance script could not be continued. It was unfortunate as we spent quite some time preparing for the performance. At last, we decided to do without our scripts. We sang our campfire performance song, along with our patrol songs and cheers since we had no choice. As I was a Song Leader, I feel that campfire was pretty engaging and fun since I was performing most of the times. For Thousand Legged Worm, we were pretty worried that we could not pull anyone to join us at first but everyone joined in on their own, forming a perfect circle. The fire was very good thanks to our campfire-in-charges. It was truly an unforgettable campfire.

3.0 Day Three

3.1 Morning Evacuation and Personal Logistics Inspection
The final day of ATC began with morning evacuation, where the trainees were woken up and evacuated their Camp Christine Tents in the morning and headed to Our chalet, where Personal Logistics Inspection was carried out.

Reflections from a Year 1:
During Morning Evacuation, the moment we heard SiQi's whistle and her shouting “全团集合”, my patrol and I immediately packed all our things and rushed out of the tent. However, due to us rushing, we did not have sufficient time to roll our sleeping bags and I did not wear my shoes properly too. Hence, while running to Our Chalet to 集合, I almost tripped several times and dropped all the things in my hands. During 集合 and Personal Logistics Inspection, I lost many of my items because the space was too cramped and we were rushing for time. We were also tired which caused us to be slower and less focused during this activity. I feel that for Morning Evacuation and Personal Logistics Inspection, we did our best and did the things as fast as we could. Although Morning Evacuation and having our Personal Logistics Inspection is very tiring, it definitely helped to increase my sense of urgency and prepared us for any disaster when we need to evacuate immediately at any point of the day.

Reflections from a Year 2:
During morning evacuation, my patrol quickly packed our stuff and rushed out of the tent when we heard SiQi shout “全团集合”. We ran to Our Chalet to 集合 with everyone else. Next, we were told to go to Pax Lodge to bring our personal logistics to Our Chalet and get ready for inspection. Through this morning evacuation, it has emphasised the importance of having a sense of urgency and alertness as it be required of us to be quick to react in times of a real emergency. During the first layout, everything was super messy as we struggled to find our belongings in our bags. The whole scene was chaotic. Many of our logistics and manpower were kapped as we did not 照顾好人和东西. During the second layout, we learnt to beware of our surroundings more and as a result, lesser things were kapped. But we still had to improve on our sense of urgency, which we did during our third layout. Although we improved, there was still room for improvement for the future.

3.2 Strike Camp
After having breakfast, the trainees went to 拆掉 their Camp Development structures and return their logistics to Pax Lodge.

Reflections from a Year 1:
Initially, we did not understand what strike camp was all about. It was only when the seniors told us about it, we understand what it was. As it was about to rain, we needed to carry out strike camp part 2 as fast as possible and 拆 our Camp Christine Tents quickly. Strike Camp Part 2 trained our sense of urgency and that we needed to work faster to ensure we finish 拆-ing the Camp Christine tents before it rained. During this activity, some patrols managed to 拆 their tents faster. Nonetheless, they still helped the other patrols who are not done yet. This taught me the importance of a and that we are not just completing ATC as individual patrols but a 团. In order to thrive in ATC and complete Strike Camp faster, we need to extend our help to other patrols and help everyone whenever we can. Without the help of everyone in the 团, we would be unable to complete Strike Camp.

Reflections from a Year 2:
On the last day of ATC, we did strike camp. In the first part of Strike Camp, we had to strike the Kitchen Shelter together with P2. However, there was a lack of manpower because P2’s patrol members had to do their lunch duty. P1 ended up helping P2 with their 拆掉 of their Creative Gadget as we did not have a Creative Gadget to 拆掉. After we 拆掉 the Kitchen Shelter, we found out that we had little time left to 拆掉 our Emergency Shelter, Flagpole and Gadget to Hold Banner and as well as lay out the canvas sheets to dry. From that we learn to work faster and have a greater sense of urgency. We also learnt that instead of helping P2 with their Creative Gadget we could have 拆掉 our Emergency Shelter first as we had little manpower. We realised that we should only help other Patrols only after we are done with our own Strike Camp. Although P1 had very little manpower, with the help of Guides from other Patrols, we were able to finish the Strike Camp on time. This reminds us that ATC is all about the 团 effort and we should help each other out and look out for each other in times of need.

3.3 Patrol Logistics Inspection
For the very last Inspection of ATC’19 at Our Chalet, the trainees had to layout out their patrol logistics to ensure that nothing was left behind at Camp Christine before we departed back to school, and to be sure that all logistics were accounted for.

Reflections from a Year 1:
For the patrol logs inspection, I was very proud of what we accomplished as we managed to finish the inspection without asking for time extensions. This is the very first time we had ever done so, so I was very surprised and happy at the time we did. For the first try, however, I think we were too slow and inefficient as we took about a minute or more just to lay out the ponchos when we were only given three minutes. I think we could have quickened this process by moving our logs faster in order not to delay time. For the packing up of the inspections, I think we were father efficient and almost managed to finish within the time limit of one minute. For the next inspection, 配备, I think we completed it fairly quicker as we were more efficient and moved way faster. Overall I think we did a good job in completing the inspections.

Reflections from a Year 2:
First,we were to layout our Toyogo Box logistics. The entire inspection was very chaotic and we could not communicate well with other patrols. As the 团 decided to standardize the layout to P6, my patrol had difficulty laying out the logistics as we are P1 and could not hear or see the layout easily. Secondly, we were to layout our 配备 logistics according to a layout. I think we improved slightly from the previous layout as we had a better communication between each patrol and we could layout our logistics quicker. Lastly, we were to do 1 more inspection of the same layout but different in-charges. I felt that we improved a lot from the previous two layouts as we listened to the feedback given and there was an improved sense of urgency and we learnt to help take care of each other's logistics and manpower. Therefore, we were able to complete the layout quicker and lesser logistics or manpower were kapped. Through this inspection, I learnt that we have things like learning to take care of each other, regardless of patrols, a sense of urgency or communication that can be further improved on and if we manage to improve on this various areas, I believe that we can do better for inspection in the future.

3.4 Company Games
Company Games allow the Guides to foster strong friendships and bonds in the 团, and enjoy themselves before the end of ATC and returning to school. There was a Relay Race and Running Man.

Relay Race:
Each patrol would be required to complete a relay race to determine the object that each patrol would be required to hide during the game of “Running Man”. The 6 objects that each patrol would be required to hide will be shown to the trainees and counsellors before the Relay Race begins. Trainees were given 15 minutes to complete the relay race as many times as possible and patrols are to keep track of the number of rounds completed by their patrol  in 15 minutes. Every completed round will earn the patrol 5 points and the top 3 teams with the most number of rounds completed will be awarded additional bonus points. The first 6 trainees representing their patrol will be given a ping pong ball to throw into the cup at the end point. Trainees will have to hold on to the ball throughout the activity and dropping the ball at any point of the game will require them to restart from the starting point. Upon completion of each round, trainees are to return back to the starting point to pass the ping pong ball to the next patrol member. For trainees that are injured, they are allowed to come to either SiQi or Li Wen at 5 min intervals to answer a riddle, play the “Nonsense” Answer game and win in a game of Scissors-Paper-Stone, which will earn their patrol additional 2 points each time. In order of merit, each patrol will get to choose which object they would like to hide during Running Man. The patrol with the least points accumulated during the relay race will have to hide the object that has not been chosen by the previous 5 patrols.

Here are the components of the Relay Race:

Activity
How to play
Remarks
Limbo
Trainee must attempt to pass under the raffia string by bending backward with their backs facing toward the floor. No part of the Trainees’ bodies are allowed to touch the string and no parts, other than their feet, are to touch the ground.

  • 2 counsellors to hold both ends of a raffia string 1 metre away from the starting point
  • The height of the raffia string should not be less than 1 metre or more than 1.2 metre
  • The length of the raffia string should be long enough to fit 6 people at one time
  • If trainees touch the raffia string at any point of time when passing under the string, they are to return back to the starting point.
Hopscotch
Trainee will have to toss a  to any box on the hopscotch court. Trainees then hops through the course, skipping the square with the 白绳 in it. Single squares must be hopped on one foot. If, while hopping through the court, trainee steps on a line, misses a square, or loses balance, trainees are to start from the first square again.
  • The hopscotch court will be marked out with masking tape.
  • The 白绳 will be placed beside the hopscotch court and trainees are to put back the 白绳 next to the hopscotch court after completing this activity.
Game of Scissors-Paper-Stone
Trainee will be required to win a game of scissors-paper-stone against the counsellor 3 times in a row.
  • 1 counsellor from each patrol are to be stationed in front of their patrol, preferably a short distance away from the hopscotch court.
“Nonsense” answer game
Counsellors will ask trainee a question and the trainee is to answer the question by giving 3 answers that do not make sense and are not related to the question in 5 seconds.

Eg. If Counsellor A were to ask “What is your favourite colour”, Trainee B will not be allowed to give an answer that is colour related. Hence, a suggested answer that the trainee could give will be “Chicken Rice”.
  • 1 counsellor from each patrol is to conduct this game.
  • The counsellor will be given the liberty to choose from the list of suggested questions to ask the trainee.
Ping-Pong Challenge
Trainees are to throw the ping pong ball into the cup placed at the finishing line.
  • 3 counsellors to be stationed at the finishing line to ensure that the trainees have thrown the ping pong ball into the cup successfully before returning back to the starting line.

Running Man:
Guides will all be given a pieces of duct tape (with 1 side being folded in) to be pasted on your back. Guides are to rip off as many duct tape as possible during the game and they will have to keep the duct tape that they have ripped off in their pockets. Guides who have their duct tape ripped off will have to proceed to Sangnam to “redeem” themselves at the “Redemption Booth”. To win the game, patrols will have to find and steal many hidden objects from the other patrols as possible within the time limit. Upon finding the other patrols’ hidden objects, they will have to bring it back to their “safe house”, which is where their patrol’s object is hidden at. The patrol is then allowed to hide the other patrols’ object within 5 metres of their own object at their“safe house”. Guides are not allowed to hide the other patrols’ objects in their pockets when bringing the other patrols’ objects back to their “safe house”. If guides’ duct tape is ripped on the way of bringing the other patrols’ objects to their “safe house”, the guide will have to return the object back to the other patrol’s safe house before going to the “Redemption Booth”. Patrols are allowed to change the “safe house” of their object only once throughout the game.

Reflections from a Year 1:
For the first part of Company Games, we played a circuit of games in Olave Hall. Firstly, we were supposed to throw a ball of 麻绳 into the air and clap 5 times before catching it for a total of 3 times  Secondly, we had to win our counsellors 3 times in a row in the game of scissors paper stone. Next, we played nonsense answer questions with them. Lastly, we were given a ping pong ball and we had to knock down a plastic cup with it. I feel that this taught us how to improvise as the games were modified as many of us could not complete the original task. I also felt that our morale was high as those who were not playing were cheering on those who were. For the second part of company games, we were given objects to hide and duct tape. We had to go around looking for other patrol's items and tear off other people's duct tape in order to win. This taught us how to strategise as some patrols had bigger items or less manpower.

Reflections from a Year 2:
During Company Games, we were given a circuit of games to complete and the patrol who does the most number of circuits wins. There were 5 games in one circuit — the 1st one was to limbo rock under a string, the 2nd was to throw a 麻绳 in the air and clap 5 times before repeating it for another 2 times. Next, our 3rd game was to play scissors, paper, stone with our counsellors, having to win them 3 times in a row and the 4th game was to play a nonsense answer question. Lastly, we had to knock down a plastic cup with a ping pong ball. The 2nd part of company games was that we were supposed to hide an object and make sure no one finds it. Meanwhile, we would have to go round looking for other patrol’s hidden object. During this time, we were given duct tape to stick onto our shirts and we were supposed to rip as many pieces of duct tape so the person would have to do a punishment. Even though my patrol did not do well on the first part, we continued to have a very high morale and cheered each other on. As for the second part, we ensured that our object was guarded most of the time and was able to find one patrol’s object.

3.5 End of ATC’19
After cleaning up and loading the logistics onto the lorry, the trainees and counsellors gathered at Olave Hall for Prize Presentation and watched a Photo Montage of the past 3 days at Camp Christine. Congratulations to all patrols, as well as the 3 patrols that scored the top 3 highest scores.

1st: P6 Scintillate 辉煌
2nd: P2 Lyra 天琴座
3rd: P5 Sirius 宇宙

Thank you to the Guiders who have worked tirelessly to ensure our safety. Without them, ATC'19 would not have been possible!

Here are some thoughts and feelings about ATC:
Reflections from a Year 1:
Reflections from a Year 2:

Overall, we felt that ATC might be tiring but it was also very fun at the same time. Through all the activities, we managed to bond together as a 团 and have fun together. Everyone worked together and helped one another. The Year 2s and 3s were very helpful and caring towards us. That was our first camp in guides. The seniors patiently guided us throughout the camp and contributed a lot. They all worked very hard to come up with the proposals and even initiated to meet and rehearse our campfire performances so as to familiarise ourselves with the performance. They made our camp even more fun and enjoyable and never failed to care and concern for us by asking if we were okay or whether we needed any help. They were all very warm and friendly and made us feel like home. Through this camp, we also forged new friendships and got to know one another better. We also consolidated our learning throughout the whole year and practiced the skills we learnt. This was a very memorable camp experience with the support from our peers and seniors.

I feel that this year’s Annual Training Camp is a wonderful experience which quizzes on each of our hard skills and at the same time, trains our ability to work well as a 团. This year, we had our first experience on doing our own proposals. It was not an easy task as we encountered several challenges at first. However, as we moved on to some second and third submissions, we figured out our problems as a 团 and found solutions together. We also helped one another despite not being from the same patrol. Through this experience, it dawned on us that a 团 effort would attain more success then one individual or one patrol’s effort. As we progressed through the different stages for this camp, we have grown to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses and thus learnt to tap on each and everyone’s abilities and work together to achieve our desired outcome.

Although the ATC Journey may not have been easy, we hope that everyone has learnt something along the way. Good job to all the patrols who have worked hard completing proposals and done their best throughout ATC! Even though it was tiring and not everything went smooth sailing, the trainees persevered and overcame many challenges they faced. We hope everyone came out of ATC stronger and with a sense of fulfillment. We are proud of you!
