Annual Training Camp, 19 November 2020

Hello Guides!

We will be continuing on with our last day of the ATC journey!

The overall storyline for day 4 is as follows:

After a couple more days of cruising the vast universe, you and your crewmates travelled through countless galaxies till you finally found one with a suitable environment and seemed unaffected by the radiation. Could this be your new home? Spaceship Christine lands on the unfamiliar planet, and you set off, making the new land feel more like home. In today’s jihe, you will be building suitable structures to aid you as you settle down. This undiscovered planet has the resources to keep you alive, but the impostors pose a larger threat. How will the human race survive if the infected people threaten to wipe you out? You are the last survivors. Only after defeating them can you truly live without fear. Time is ticking. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Anytime now, they could strike again. Work quickly, or risk your crewmates’ lives. The impostors are merciless, hungry for the next victim’s blood. Hurry! Before it is too late!

Kitchen Table

Upon landing, you realise you will need a structure to hold your logistics, belongings and seat your crew mates. This practical shelter will serve as a place for you to rest and recharge, to prepare yourself for the upcoming battles. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Table. If you are able to complete it, you will certainly be rewarded.

Reflection from a Year 1

For the Kitchen Table we built, although we managed to complete it, I feel that our sense of urgency at some parts of the activity can be improved. For example, we took quite long to take all the logistics needed for the Kitchen Table. I feel that our constant 报时 and cheering could be improved as well because we didn't do it very often and sometimes it was not loud enough to be heard by the other patrols. We should also have 照顾好东西 and 人 better as we did not really do so throughout the whole activity. Instead of standing around when we had nothing else to do, we should have taken more initiative to ask the Year 2s what to do next instead of just standing around. Overall, we felt a sense of achievement as we were able to complete the Kitchen Table but felt that there were other areas that we could further improve on.

Reflection from a Year 2

To build the Kitchen Table, we had to first collect our logistics. Because we also had to get other things not from backstore like helmets, we decided to split the work and let one patrol get most of the miscellaneous items while the rest of the patrols get the 木 required for the 团. Despite all this planning, we still 过时 quite a bit. I feel that we should work much faster at collecting logistics as throughout the Annual Training Camp, I feel that we always take quite some time to collect logistics, especially from the backstore. As to building the Kitchen Table, my patrol was the only patrol which completed the structure. While I do feel a sense of pride at completing the structure, I feel that there, too, are areas that can be improved on. For instance, as a Year 2, I feel that I should step up more and take initiative to assign the Year 1s things to do. I could look at the bigger picture to ensure that the manpower is well distributed. This can greatly reduce the time taken for us to do things as it could put better use to our limited manpower.

Kitchen Shelter

As time passes, you realise that the sun is going to set, and that you will need a structure to protect your logistics, belongings and crew mates. This shelter will shield you from any possible dangers and prevent you from getting hurt while you settle down. On this planet, you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. The environment may pose threats to your survival but you know you can trust your instinct. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Shelter.

Reflection from a Year 1

The building of the Kitchen Shelter during 集合 was very interesting and I learnt a lot from that activity. Since it was my first time building it, the Year 2s taught us how to build it. I think it was very enriching to be able to build the structure in real life despite the current Covid-19 restrictions. This has also helped me become more familiar with various structures other than those that we have previously built such as the Kitchen Table. I think this activity helped me to have a more hands-on experience hence deepening my memory of the building of the Kitchen Shelter. Building a structure in a grass area was also quite new and interesting and I think it has helped replicate the campsite area where we were originally supposed to build structures at. So all in all I think this activity of building the Kitchen Shelter has been interesting and enriching.

Reflection from a Year 2

During this 集合, we built a Kitchen Shelter together as a patrol. As a Year 2, I have benefitted a lot from this 集合. We should always look at the bigger picture first before the smaller details. In this way, we would be able to better lead the Year 1s and have a better overall idea how we are going to build the structure. For example, all 3 patrols had to change the orientation of the canvas sheet because we did not think further if we had enough space for the structure. We could also have a better sense of urgency, especially since we already wasted quite a lot of time changing the layout. During this time, we also learnt the importance of 报时. We had to be well aware of our time. However, in my opinion, everyone in the patrol improved a lot from the previous 集合s. For the Year 2s, we were more familiar with the structure and were able to distribute our manpower more efficiently. As for the Year 1s, they were able to tie tighter lashes and ask us for help whenever they are in doubt.

Baggage Rack

The sneaky impostors try to take away your belongings to leave you to die. But by building a structure, you can prevent this and keep your belongings safe. You and your crew mates are tasked to build a Baggage Rack suitable to hold your logistics.

Reflection from a Year 1

We managed to revise on our lashes while building the Baggage Rack especially the A-架 and the square lash. We also learnt how to raft from our seniors and also further revised our netting. Besides that, it was also good that we practised tying our baggage rack as we did not tie it after many 集合s. Although our lashes were tighter than before and we were faster in tying all of our lashes, we still had much space for improvement. We could have certainly 报时 and cheered more.  This will help to boost our 团 morale and give us a better sense of timing and a sense of urgency. Also, we should  improve on 照顾好人 and 东西. This is so as if we do not do so, we will not be able to complete the structure with the lack of materials. We also learnt that it would be good to help out other patrols when we are done especially when some of them have lesser manpower. This is showing 团的精神 which is good. Lastly, we look forward to December's 集合s and also welcoming in the new batch of year ones. We know that we still have much to improve on and will continue to try our best to do better and better with each 集合.

Reflection from a Year 2

There was an improvement in the building of our Baggage Rack. We had a better sense of urgency and cheered a lot more. However, I think we can have an even better sense of urgency since we took almost twice the standard timing for the Baggage Rack. We could also 照顾好东西 better as quite a lot of logistics got kapped. We can also take turns to cheer and not rely on the same few people as the seniors had to even mouth alert some people. We had tighter lashes but I think we could still improve on our lashes as some lashes needed us to 重抽 or 重打. We did have better communication with patrols and as Year 2s I feel we stepped up more and took note of the bigger picture and small details like how much to 开 the tripod because the short half bamboo might be too short and take note of protrusion.

Good job crewmates for completing this Annual Training Camp! You have successfully completed all your tasks and ejected all the imposters. Congratulations! Even though this is a very scaled down Annual Training Camp and very different from the our annual one held at Camp Christine, but we truly hope that you have learnt something from these 4 集合s.

Reflection from a Year 1

ATC 2020 had its fair shares of ups and downs. It has certainly brought us closer as a patrol. Day 1 was already off to a rough start. First, we learnt how to pitch a tent, a useful skill for survival. After learning how to pitch a tent, we had to do Physical Training. Although Physical Training was tiring, the constant cheering of our batchmates helped to boost morale and kept us going. After Physical Training, we built a Kitchen Table. After learning to build a kitchen table a week ago, this was a great way to revise and practise our lashes. Day 3 of ATC was a lot better. We had an Obstacle Journey. Obstacle Journey required a clear understanding of the trekking signs, survival signs and first aid skills. Along the way, we gathered clues as to who the imposter was. At the end of the day, we successfully voted out the first imposter. On the third day, we had station games. Before it started, we had an inspection. During inspection, we tried our best to 照顾好东西 and 报时 but cheering can be done more frequently. During station games, we were unfamiliar with our guides notes and we should read up on them. The last day of ATC 2020 was great. First, we learnt how to build a Kitchen Shelter. After completing the structure, we had a prize giving ceremony. As a patrol, we learnt where we could improve. ATC 2020 was a great experience that allowed me to better bond with my patrol and batchmates.

Reflection from a Year 2

During ATC, I felt that the expectations for all of us were definitely higher and we could feel the pressure as we have to step up to lead properly. However, ATC has helped us to grow and revise on how to build basic structures like Kitchen Shelter and Kitchen Table. As a senior, stepping up used to feel uncomfortable but ATC  helped me to do things out of my comfort zone and I can now try to step up without much hesitation. ATC has also given me a chance to look at our areas for improvement. One thing we can improve on is to cheer and 报时 more often. Due to the fact that we do not 报时 frequently, time extensions were asked quite late and we always move rather slowly thinking there is a lot of time left. Our sense of urgency can also be improved. We were still unfamiliar with how to build structures like Kitchen Shelter and need to think about other factors like wind direction while building it. Overall, there is much room for improvement but we also did our best and learnt a lot from this year’s ATC.

We hope that through all the ATC activities we have planned, everyone managed to learn lots from it and revised on what they were unsure of. It has sincerely been a tough one but we all made it through together. Well done Guides!

Annual Training Camp, 17 November 2020

Hello Guides!

We will be continuing on with our ATC journey!

The overall storyline for day 3 is as follows:

Hello Trainees, welcome to day 3 of ATC’20. On day 2, you have discovered who the imposters are and successfully ejected them from Spaceship Christine. As you wake up and get ready for your tasks, you walk past the storage room, and you are shocked to find that the supplies are all in a mess, and many items have been stolen. How could this be? The imposter had already been ejected yesterday, this should have been impossible. It slowly dawned on you that there was another imposter and they had wreaked havoc on the spaceship. Together, you must overcome this setback and continue to complete your tasks on the spaceship, do not let the imposter claim victory!

Inspection

After discovering that the imposter had stolen many of your supplies, you decide that your top priority is to retrieve your supplies. Now that you have retrieved all the logistics needed, we will now be conducting an inspection to ensure that all the equipment is in working conditions and that nothing is missing.

Congratulations for completing this inspection. You have successfully retrieved your necessary logistics and are now ready to start on your tasks for the day, to keep the spaceship in operation.

Reflection from a Year 1

I think inspection was a very good chance to learn from our mistakes. I think we improved from the previous inspection but there is still more room for improvement. We were supposed to memorise the layout that was submitted and apply it during inspection. Although we had a layout, not everyone finished setting it up. I think we could have moved faster and gone to a closer wall to us than carrying all our stuff to another place which was very troublesome and time consuming. For the second part of inspection, we had to change the layout and it should be different from the previous one. I think everyone had relied too much on our Year 2 senior and when she was away, everyone did not know what to do. We could have stepped up to help her. I learnt that communication is very important in inspection and we should not be shy to step up.

Reflection from a Year 2

I feel that this inspection was meaningful and very fulfilling. Although we did not perform very well and did not manage to finish our layouts, I felt that it was a good chance for the Year 1s to revise on how inspection works. I think this inspection reminded the whole 团 that we needed to increase our sense of urgency in order to complete our tasks efficiently. As the only Year 2 of my patrol, that inspection was really tiring for me since I tried my best to step up and lead my group too. I should have focused more on my layout and depended more on my batchmates to lead the group. However, I also once again got another chance to lead my Year 1s and teach and guide them on how inspection works. Overall, I felt that we could have put in a little more effort and worked faster.

Obstacle Journey

The spaceship has taken off. Everyone is required to carry out their tasks. Each patrol has a different set of tasks to carry out, together as a team. Be careful, as there is still one last imposter among us, ready for the right time to strike so please be reminded to look after one another.

Station 1: Physical Training

In order to combat the imposter, your company has decided to make everyone go through a mandatory physical training course. There are 2 sets of PT that you can consider carrying out. You guys were indecisive so you chose to settle your choice over a game of scissors-paper-stone with your Patrol leader. If you win, you will undergo the first set of PT. If you lose, you will undergo the second set of PT. Before we start, you will need to do some warm-ups. Please choose a representative to lead the warm-up. Guides, guides alert, 计时 2 mins for warm-up, break off. Now, you will be given 1 minute to play scissors-paper-stone with your Patrol Leader. You are to do the set of Physical Training given and are expected to complete at least 3 rounds of the circuit PT within 10 mins. There is no specific order of how the PT should be completed.

Congratulations on completing the training course. You are now physically ready to fight off the imposter!

Reflection from a Year 2

For the Physical Training station, we had to do 3 circuits of Physical Training. We had to choose what Physical Training to do by playing a game of scissors paper stone with our Patrol Leader ; if we won, we would do a certain set of Physical Training and if we lost, we had to do another. This predetermined set would have to be done 3 times over the span of 12 minutes, which was broken into 7 and 5 minutes respectively with a water break in between each circuit. I feel that the circuit Physical Training was not very tough. Although the timings we were given felt a bit short, the actual Physical Training we had to do was not that difficult. I feel that cheering also helped as it kept our spirits high and encouraged us to persevere. However I feel that our sense of urgency throughout the station could be improved as we often slowly moved from one position to another and could have better used our time to complete the circuits faster.

Station 2: First Aid

While you were adventuring the spaceship, in search for the clues for the imposter, an accident occured. The lights started flickering and went off you. You were unable to see clearly and you heard a “thump” sound. You turned around and quickly realised that your Patrol Leader had tumbled down the stairs. It appears that her right knee was bleeding. She was clutching her left shoulder in pain and complained that her head was throbbing. You will now be given 8 mins to treat her injuries. Time is ticking, treat her injuries before the imposter creeps up on you.

Suddenly, you catch a whiff of a strange smell in the air. Someone has sabotaged the gas tanks! You have 1 min to decide how to deal with this situation before you pass out.

You hear cries of pain and turn around to find that 2 other of your patrol members have collapsed to the ground. You realised that both your Patrol Leader and the 2 patrol members are suffering from a mysterious illness. One of the patrol members appeared to have also suffered a broken left leg and a sprained right ankle while the other patrol member is suffering from heat exhaustion and a mysterious, snake bite has appeared on her right arm. From the corner of your eyes, you notice a round headed snake with round pupils slithering away. Look around for a special medicine that would cure this illness. Make sure that 2 or more members are with you at all times and members seeking for the cure will have to stick close together by holding onto a 麻绳 and keep 1m safe distances. You will be given 10 mins before they collapse to the mysterious illness.

Good job! You have successfully treated all your injured patrol members. Time to get out of here before the imposter makes another move!

Reflection from a Year 2

I feel that my patrol did not do so well for one of the stations during the obstacle journey on Tuesday’s 集合, which is the first-aid station. We were not able to identify some of the steps to take if someone had an injured leg, a snake bite, or heat exhaustion. However, when we were tasked to save ourselves from the “poisonous gas”, we managed to take action fast enough and made use of our scarf to cover our nose and mouth. On the other hand, we were unsure of how to tie the head and jaw bandage and took a very long time trying to finish it. We did not revise our first aid skills well enough and thus I felt that we could have done better for the first aid station. Furthermore, we could have also been more serious during all the activities being carried out at that station and could have had a greater sense of urgency as we were still laughing and took our time to finish the head and jaw bandage during this station. Therefore, I feel that we still have a lot of room for improvement in terms of our first aid skills as well as our sense of urgency.

Station 3: Creative Gadgeting

You realise that when it comes to emerging valorously during challenges, teamwork is key. For this station, you will be required to make use of the provided logistics to build a structure that best represents your patrol’s identity. You will be given 12 minutes to build your structure. You will need at least 2 diagonals, 4 square lashes and 1 quadpod. For the first 4 minutes of the station, the Y2s are not allowed to touch the structure. Now, you will be given 12 minutes to build your structure. Please note that you will be required to explain the features of the structure and link it back to how it best represents your patrol.

Congratulations on completing this station. Now that you have decided on a patrol identity, you and your patrol mates feel a sense of courage and are confident that you will brace through whatever challenges lie in your way, together as a team.

Reflection from a Year 2

We played a station game, to build a creative gadget that symbolises our individual patrol. However, the rule was that only the Year 1s could touch the structure for the first 4 minutes. Since, the Year 2s would usually be the ones tying the main frames of the structure, while the Year 1s would have a slightly easier task to tie the 顶脚. Hence, our progress was slowed. Through this activity, we realised that our lashes were not up to standard, and hence, we were unable to complete the structure. The structure our patrol had built was made up of a tripod and a quadpod, with a 木 that connected the both. This symbolises our batches being united together, and also the bond between different batches. I found this activity interesting as it allowed us to practice the different lashes while unleashing our creativity on building a symbolic structure. I also learnt that we should place our logistics at a strategic location such that they were in our sight while we tie the structure at the same time. I feel that we could better allocate the manpower, and not leave the Year 1s alone to tie the tripod while the Year 2s gather around the quadpod.

Station 4: Survival Skills 1

In order to train your survival skills, in case the spaceship gets sabotaged and an emergency landing has to occur again, you are to put your survival skills to test and undergo a simulation. Look around for post-it notes containing questions testing you on your knowledge of survival skills. You will be awarded 2 logistics that will aid you in your later tasks per question successfully answered.

Oh no! A storm is approaching! You have 8 minutes to build a shelter that will shelter at least 2 patrol members and your logistics. You are free to also make use of your surroundings. Make haste before you are caught in the storm!

You have successfully built your shelter and the storm has passed. Congratulations on surviving this simulation. You are now prepared for whatever challenges lie in your way.

Reflection from a Year 2

For station 4, first we had to find post-its and answer all the questions on it. The questions were about the survival skills in the guides notes, such as how to build a bamboo filter. Most of our patrol did not read the guides notes as we forgot, so we were unable to solve the questions quickly. Fortunately, the seniors helped us by trying to give us hints so that we were able to complete the station. I think that us as Year 2s should remember to read the Guides notes often and also remind our Year 1s as they are still fairly new and do not know that they have to read Guides notes for Obstacle Journey. The survival skills in the Guides notes are very important, and we managed to revise them in the first part of the station. We also needed to climb the stairs to find the post-its while taking care of logistics. This taught us that we need to cooperate with our patrol mates and be aware of our surroundings. Next, we had to build a shelter to shelter us and the other gadget poles. I was assigned to be Patrol Leader, so I was quite stressed. We needed to use our surroundings to build the shelter. Eventually we decided to tie 2 青木 on the railing and tie poncho to it. Overall, I thought that we needed to cheer and 报时 more as we were too busy tying the shelter or solving the post-its. We also 过时 even if we asked for time extension, so I think that we need to have a better sense of urgency. I also should have stepped up more to lead the patrol as the seniors assigned patrol leader for a reason.

Station 5: Patrol Bonding

As you were completing one of your tasks with your patrol members in the cafeteria, you suddenly hear the doors close. You have no choice but to wait patiently for someone to unlock the door from the outside. To lighten up the mood while waiting, you decided to play some games. So now, you will be undergoing a series of challenges. There are a total of 4 stages to this challenge. To pass the first stage, 2 different patrol members are to do 2 consecutive bottle flips. To pass the second stage, 2 people are to make use of a 麻绳 and complete 5 successful skips together, consecutively. To pass the third stage, you will have to play scissors-paper-stone with me. One of you will have to win against me 3 times in a row to pass. Last but not least, you will have to solve a picture puzzle as a patrol, to complete the challenge. Please note that all patrol members are to take turns in these stages.

Good job for completing this station. You hear the door click and realise that the door has been unlocked by a fellow crewmate. You are finally able to leave the room.

Reflection from a Year 2

From this station, we started off by having to bottle flip. It was really difficult at the start but we soon got the hang of it and managed to complete that stage. I also realised that teamwork is very important to get work done. For example, we needed to work together to complete the puzzle. We also needed to coordinate with each other when jumping rope. If one of us were to mess up, we would have to start all over again. Cheering was also very important as we needed to boost morale in order to get more hyped and work faster. I also learnt to not give up and to have patience as if we did not manage to complete a task the first try, we had to start all over again. The games were simple and fun. My patrol managed to complete the station quite fast and I was proud of us. In conclusion, I am thankful for this station as it is more relaxed and fun compared to other stations.

Station 6: Survival Skills 2

One of your tasks on the spaceship is to learn how to recognise trekking signs, as this is essential to survival in case of an emergency landing on a foreign land. You are put through a simulation test with your patrol members, and to pass you must follow the trekking signs to find your missing survival kit. There is also a requirement to pass this simulation test - you are to find out an exact date that will be hinted to you through the trekking signs, in order to gain bonus marks to pass the test with flying colours! Just a hint: keep your eyes peeled for numbers! After break off, you will have to give me your survival kit and everyone will close their eyes until I tell you to open them. Now, you will be given 14 minutes to follow the trekking signs and find your missing survival kit in order to pass the test. Please note that you are only supposed to be looking at the blue coloured Post-it notes until stated that you can open the pink ones.

Congratulations on completing this station! You managed to find your survival kit and passed the test.

Reflection from a Year 2

During the station, we had to find post-it notes with trekking signs on them. In order to find the date, we had to take the first letter of each trekking sign and place them in sequence. During the station, we had to carry our 配备, 木 and water bottles with us. As a result, it became slightly more difficult to look for post-it notes stuck around the area. When we put down our logistics to solve some trekking signs, we completely forgot about them and did not notice the seniors taking them away. In addition, we moved rather slowly and lacked a sense of urgency as we took our time to find and solve the trekking signs on the post-it notes. We were not very familiar with the trekking signs and we wasted quite a bit of time trying to recall what each trekking sign meant. We could revise more about our trekking signs and try to complete stations quicker as there is a time limit. We should learn to 照顾好东西 better and cheer and 报时 more frequently and consistently.

You have successfully completed your tasks for the day and it is now time for everyone to gather back at the cafeteria to enjoy a nice evening together. The tasks were tiring but everyone put in their best efforts together and the spaceship remains in good condition all thanks to you. Keep up the good work! We hope that you were able to hone your hard skills and soft skills through these activities and they have better prepared you for unforeseen circumstances and challenging situations in the future.

Continuation of storyline for the next ATC session:

Good job for today! All of your patrol members are safe and sound, despite all the challenges and setbacks that the imposter had lay ahead in hopes of sabotaging the operations of the spaceship, your teamwork and courage prevailed. You have yet to find out who the imposter was but you feel a sense of achievement, having managed to emerge valorous with your patrol members during such times of danger. We hope you will continue to stand strong regardless of whatever may come next and the story continues...

We hope everyone enjoyed the Obstacle Journey planned for today! Rest well and we will see you in our last Annual Training Camp session!

Annual Training Camp, 12 November 2020

Hi Guides!

We will be continuing on with our ATC journey!

The overall storyline for day 2 is as follows:

Hello Trainees, welcome to day 2 of ATC’20. Listen carefully as you may find clues that will benefit you. In part 1, you have successfully found and boarded Spaceship Christine. 3, 2, 1, blast off! Soaring through the Milky Way, you and your crewmates do your best to stay alive and search for safety. Unknowingly, some of the Infected are disguised, hiding their murderous intent. As they creep up on you, you realise how important trust is while working with your teammates. Oh no! Suddenly, as you travel further from Earth, a meteor collides with Spaceship Christine and sends it off track. The pilot loses control, a loud siren starts ringing and an error message flashes on each screen. Panic consumes your crew and the ship crashes forcefully onto a nearby planet. Lucky for you, an engineer aboard Christine volunteers to help mend the ship, but he needs at least a day. In the meantime, you and your crewmates have to work together to survive a night on the foreign planet. Stepping onto the sandy surface of the Red Planet, you will face unpredictable and difficult challenges. Overcome these while completing your tasks and your team will manage to continue your venture in space. Fail, and your fate will be decided by the deceiving impostors.

Kitchen Shelter (Group 1)

On Mars, you realise you will need a shelter to protect your logistics, belongings and crew mates. This shelter will shield you from any possible dangers and prevent you from getting hurt. On this planet, you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. The unprecedented environment may pose threats to your survival. But you know you can trust your instinct. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Shelter, a standard structure you are familiar with to benefit your team.

Reflection from a Year 1

As it was my first time building the Kitchen Shelter, I did not really know what to do and was a bit confused in the beginning which led to a waste of time too. Although I really wanted to see the completed kitchen shelter, I think not completing it was also part of the learning experience. It made me truly understand the importance of urgency and being efficient in everything. I also learnt that though we need to be quick, doing it well is also of utmost importance. If we do not do it well, it would just backfire on us eventually and waste even more time, defeating the purpose. I hope that in future, we would be able to work faster to complete the entire structure in time.

Reflection from a Year 2

We went to D Area to build a Kitchen Shelter. We had to collect the logistics from backstore and teach the Year 1s about how to build a Kitchen shelter. This was the first time we would be building a Kitchen Shelter this year and it was also the Year 1s' first time building it. Due to this, I feel that we did not perform as well and did not manage to properly set up the Kitchen Shelter. I feel that throughout the entire time that we were building the shelter, all the patrols could have had a better sense of urgency and took better care of our logistics as quite a few of our stuff got kapped and we kept overrunning. I feel that even though we did not manage to finish our structure, it was a valuable experience as it allowed the year ones to try out building a kitchen shelter and understanding how to build one. It also allowed us to refresh on our skills and step up more to lead the patrol.

Kitchen Table (Group 2)

On Mars, you realise you will need a structure to hold your logistics, belongings and seat your crew mates. This shelter will serve as a place for you to rest and recharge, to prepare yourself for the upcoming battles. On this planet, you are unfamiliar with your surroundings. The unprecedented environment may pose threats to your survival. But you know that you can trust your instinct. For each patrol, you are to build a Kitchen Table, a standard structure you are familiar with to benefit your team.

Reflection from a Year 1

During this ATC session, we built a Kitchen Table. From this experience, I believe that we have improved a little on the speed from the previous ATC session, but we, as a 团 and a patrol can continue to work even faster and have a better sense of urgency. We could have also improved on the use of manpower. Since my patrol may have more manpower than the other 2 patrols, we can either help the others or proactively ask the Year 2s on what to do. Adding on, we should have been more aware when the Year 3s kapped our logistics or manpower away and immediately ask for them back. I hope that we will take note of these and improve in the following ATC sessions as well as in future.

Reflection from a Year 2

When we started building the Kitchen Table, we built the tripod faster than usual and I feel that it is a good improvement from the last time we tied a tripod. However, when it came to the 顶脚s, we had to re-measure over and over again as we did not support the structure properly and the 木 kept moving. We wasted more than half the time trying to measure the height of the ding jiaos. We had more manpower than other patrols that day but failed to allocate them wisely and was even slower than other patrols at one point. Due to the lack of sense of urgency, we were unable to complete the Kitchen Table although we were given time extension many times. Some lashes were also very loose and we had to 重抽 them, wasting even more time. Cheering and 报时 was also inconsistent and there were a few people who were doing nothing but still failed to cheer or 报时. While we were busy trying to tie our lashes, we did not keep an eye on our logistics and they were taken by the seniors. Logistics are important for us to be able to complete the whole structure. Overall, we should learn to take care of our logistics and learn how to allocate our manpower properly in order to complete the structure during the time limit. We should also revise our lashes and try to 报时 and cheer more frequently.

After building your structure, you wander the planet looking for useful resources to sustain yourselves during your stay and you and your crewmates happen to chance upon a couple of challenges. Aliens and the Impostors threaten your survival and combating them with your wits and physical ability is the only way out. Remember, be prepared for any possible challenge and you will definitely be able to come out victorious!

Station 1: Photo-taking

In the course of your research, you manage to find out that the infected do not show up in pictures as how they appear, instead in their true form. In order to prove all of you are healthy and normal, you have to go through a series of photo tests. Your task is to choose and recreate the photos, but here’s the twist, recreate these photos while keeping an arms length away from each other.

Reflection from a Year 1

The photo taking station was the first station of the station games played during the

second half of the 集合. Since our Patrol was Patrol four, the sequence of our tations was 2, 3, 4, 1, thus this station was our last one. During this station, we picked out many photos of a wide variety. We had a blast imitating the photos found in the paper bag, however some were quite challenging. For example, some of our photos chosen were aerial shots so we had to

perfect the timing and positions in the air. With the help of our Year 2 seniors and the Year 3 station masters, we were able to overcome these challenges and successfully took many pictures together as a patrol. Even though we might not have gotten the most photos taken, we still felt that this station was still very fulfilling and gave us a chance to bond as a patrol.

Reflection from a Year 2

This photo-taking station was very meaningful as we had learnt some skills from it. Firstly, teamwork is essential as everyone has to cooperate together as one in order to recreate the given picture. This is because in the pictures, there are always more than one person. Hence, just with one person's effort to pose, we will not be able to completely re-enact the picture. Secondly, in a team, it is important for one person to step up to lead as she will be able to see the bigger picture and direct the team better, increasing our efficiency. Lastly, it is also crucial to have effective communication within the team as this will help us clarify any of our doubts if we have. Overall, this activity was very fun for us to complete as a team as we got to do different types of poses we have never done before!

Station 2: Tic Tac Toe Game

While venturing on Mars, you unknowingly stumbled into the alien’s territory which made the aliens fuming mad. Oh no! The aliens have kidnapped half your crewmates. Your crewmates have been brainwashed by the aliens and now act and think like them. Crewmates, the people in the back row, your task is to win the aliens to get your crewmates. Aliens, your task is to defeat the crewmates and destroy humanity. Accuracy, speed and most importantly teamwork will help you succeed in this game. Good luck, you have 7 minutes to try to take down your opponents. So you will be competing amongst yourselves. The group who forms a straight line with all 3 of your objects first win. You are to complete an allocated PT, before you can run to the tic tac toe to move your group’s string. Throughout the game, you are only allowed to move your own objects, and every patrol member that runs to the tic tac toe must move one of your objects once.

Reflection from a Year 1

The station where we did the Tic Tac Toe was really fun, especially when we had to compete against each other which made it more competitive and made us try hard enough to win. The storyline in the station was also really interesting and cool. It was great that occasionally swapped teammates which gives each of us a chance to team up with one another and have an opportunity to work with different people in our patrol. It was also a good game to bond as we needed to think of strategies to win the game. At the same time, we were able to do some physical training to train our stamina. We must also use our brain to think of how to block the opponent from winning and how to win the opponent. It was an amazing and super fun game. I hope we get to play that again another time.

Reflection from a Year 2

The Tic Tac Toe was very interesting as it was a very fresh game we have never played before. This activity required us to complete various types of Physical Training together as a team. This station tested our knowledge of the types of Physical Training we usually do during 集合 such as burpees and jumping jacks. It is essential to know our standard Physical Training well so that we are able to execute them well without injuring ourselves and building up our fitness at the same time. This activity was very fun too as we got the chance to compete within our patrol, trying to execute the Physical Training as fast as possible in order to win the game. Other than doing Physical Training, we also managed to play Tic Tac Toe in a different way, testing both our speed and quick thinking on the spot!

Station 3: Physical activity

In order to combat the aliens and the aggressive impostors, physical training is required to build up your immunity system and physical strength. At the same time, you will learn to persevere and strengthen yourself mentally. Succeed and you will have a larger chance of saving humanity and winning.

Reflection from a Year 1

Physical activity was very fun and enjoyable. We followed the workout shown and tried our best to follow along. Some of our Year 3 seniors also did it with us! I think it was a wonderful time for us as we could relax but train our physical strength at the same time. We also had a fun time laughing at some very funny moves. Although the workout was quite tiring but our enthusiasm did not fade which was very nice. We also got to stretch our muscles at this station, help improve our body coordination and also be ourselves. However, I think we could have cheered more and also 报时 more often during the activity and not depend on the Year 2s to do it. Overall, we had a happy time following the workout together. Having this type of physical activity in the future will be very cool too.

Reflection from a Year 2

For a part of this 集合, we had station games. One of the stations is on physical activity and it is quite unique. Instead of doing the usual Physical Training, we were told to follow a dance workout video. Initially when we just started, all of us simply stood on the spot watching the video, and barely moved. We were not used to it and felt quite awkward. However, after a while, we became more enthusiastic doing the activity. All of us tried our very best to follow and copy the video. There was lots of fun and laughter. Through this, we realised that when we participate more actively, we would be able to create a more vibrant environment that we can enjoy. Our patrol also cheered together as one and 报时 frequently. One thing that our patrol can improve on is probably to have the courage to try new things. In conclusion, this activity has allowed us to learn and have a great time together.

Station 4: Escape Room

You and your fellow patrol members were wandering around Mars in search for available food sources. You happen to chance upon an abandoned convenience store. Oh no! Unfortunately, the Impostor sabotaged the security system and  trapped your crew in a convenience store. While she was locking the door, you grabbed a piece of paper from her pocket, hoping it was a clue which could help you escape. Turns out, it was her grocery list. The Impostor was so frustrated that he left by the drainage system and vented back home. This gives you time to solve the puzzle and get out.

Reflection from a Year 1

The escape room station in station games that we did was very interesting. We, the Year 1s, had the chance to try using the guides code to solve the puzzle for the first time. I think that the station also made use of our observation skills as we had to keep an eye out for the post-its that we were told to find at the beginning of the station. Apart from that, I feel the activity required us to think critically to piece together the various clues, for example the sum of the two 3-digit numbers we managed to figure out to get the correct code. However, I also feel that on a more personal part, I could have cheered more without encouragement from my Year 3 seniors first. Overall, it was enjoyable to work together to solve the various puzzles to figure out the code to get out of the escape room.

Reflection from a Year 2

For the escape room station during station games, our patrol was tasked to find a few post-its and envelopes which would need to be solved to get the code. Initially, we took a long time to find the post-its around the classroom as some were hidden between tables and we did not think to look there. However, we managed to speed up the process by allocating our manpower more efficiently with some people deciphering the Guides code and the rest looking for the remaining post-its. In the end, we managed to find everything required after a few hints from the station ICs and solved the codes. From this station, I learnt that we should always leave no stone unturned and also learnt the importance of allocating manpower such that the process is sped up.
