Hello guides!
On Friday we had our Combined UG Campfire 2009 to welcome our new sec1s!
We jihe-ed at 2.20pm, while the songleaders went off at 3pm to rehearse for the last time before the actual campfire. After that, we joined our patrol and taught the sec1s campfire songs and the mass dance!

At around 5+pm, we went to have dinner at the canteen, and we had fun bonding with our patrol. The songleaders left earlier to go to the hall. We were all very nervous before the start of the campfire, wondering how it would turn out to be, whether our 3-times-a-week practises would pay off.

We started off by welcoming the vips with the scouts doing their lion dance, and Mr Sng giving an opening speech. The highness started when Mr Sng announced the magic words, "I declare the campfire OPEN!" We started singing Campfire's Burning, and then slowly moving up the highness graph. At the end of section 1, it was the audience's first game! The emcees called out for people who fit the descriptions of what they said, and the enthusiatic participants dug into a box for items that were from the 4 UGs.

After section 2, we had our very own Don't Forget The Lyrics kind of game!
A few representatives from each UG sang funny cover versions of each song where participants were made either to guess the song title or sing the next line.
Everyone shouted "encore!" because it was just so entertaining to see the funny representatives singing their own renditions.

The climax of the campfire was at section 3, where the audience had alot of fun singing and doing actions to the fast action songs. And our very own combined UG MASS DANCE! For the second time of the dance, each CCA chairperson was called out on stage to dance, and some other enthusiastic people also went in front! Even though the fire was not real and the venue was indoors and air conditioned, the atmosphere was still super super high!

The end of mass dance marked the start of section 4, the songs that made the atmosphere descend down the highness graph and put everyone into a swaying lullabye mode. We ended with the song Auld Lang Syne.

And then Mr Sng went up on stage and uttered the words we dreaded, "I declare the campfire closed." And we all went woosh.

At the end of campfire, even though we were tired and sad that it was over so quickly, and having the emo after-effect flowing in, it was really a night to remember and we had loads and loads of fun as a big big family!
Looking back at the few weeks of songleaders' trainings, I felt that we really had an enriching time having fun with people from all 4 Uniformed Groups, working with the people whom we previously only knew by name or face. There were little little conflicts along the way, but that strengthened our bond(: It was heartwarming to see everyone trying hard together and willing to stay back.

And on behalf of the songleaders, I would like to thank all the mentors and Sec4s ex-songleaders who took time out from their busy school schedule to supervise us and gave us advice on how to improve, and for being so patient with us. And also thankyou to everyone for their effort in making this campfire a huge success! :D
