Hello Guides!
On 27th March, a group of year3s and 2s set off on a mission to Whampoa to do some white washing and cleaning up of walls before painting our mural designs while the other guides stayed in school for other preparation like performances. When we got there, we were divided into 3 groups.
These 3 groups were then assigned to 3 areas. The precinct hall, the kindergarten and outside the Whampoa RC. We brought along old shirts to prevent our coy tee from being dirtied. We were being briefed and then along, with cloths, buckets of water, paint brushes, white paint and soap, we started our mission.
With cooperation, we managed to finish up all the white washing and the cleaning of the walls. Sometimes, we even had to coat a few more layers of white paint to attain a clean and white wall. When we finished, we attained a great sense of satisfaction as the walls looked much cleaner than it was at first. Our mural designs will be painted next Saturday when all of us will head there again which we hope will make the place look livelier!
Although we had to get out hands wet and dirty, the mission was accomplished as everyone chipped in their best. Everyone learnt the importance of cleanliness can affect the environment and how to efficiently help out and cooperate to get the job done.
Jiayou!

On 21st March, the year 3s and year 4s went to Meridian Junior College to learn rock climbing. At the first part of the whole course, the instructors taught us the various parts of rock climbing and the safety issues. We learnt how to use the rope and the harness, and also how to be a belayer.
Before we went for lunch break, we paired up and practice belaying for our partners. After this, some of us are able to attempt climbing the 13m rock wall. A few managed to reach the top. After several attempts had been made, we went for a lunch break at the food court near the Meridian Junior College.
After having our lunch, we went back continued trying to climb the rock wall at least 3 times for each person. At least half of us managed to climb to the top of the 13m wall. However, nobody managed to climb to the top at the difficult part where the wall begins curving outwards. Nevertheless, our instructors told us that we did very well. Unfortunately, we had to end our course earlier due to the presence of lightning.
Everybody had great fun that day. The instructors even let us played Frisbee for a while when some of us were exhausted from climbing the rock wall. Thankfully, no major accidents had occurred. Everybody had learnt something that day and most importantly, we enjoyed ourselves.

HI guides :D
Yesterday, we jihed at the usual place at 9am in the morning. This jihe was the same as the week before's jihe but patrols swoop to do PT and initiatives. For p4 and 5, we went around the school taking pictures for our videos. P4 had to come up with a video regarding guiding whereas P5 had to do a video regarding the school. We were given roughly an hour to go around the school compound for photo taking and to then complete our video within 2 hours in the computer lap. P3 and 6 went to East Coast Park for sand castle building. Although it rained halfway, it was a fun trip going to the beach and enjoy the sun & nature. Patrols bonded even more after this initiative.
For p1,2,7 and 8, they had foot drill training as well as Physical training which was the same as what P3 to 6 went through. After that, we jihed together for lunch and had skills training. Two patrols were grouped together and we had 4 checkpoints to complete. The first checkpoint was the tying of gadgets - kitchen dresser. Second checkpoint was attire check. It is important to ensure that we should be up to the guides standard for any guides activity and not wait for spot checks to remind us that we should be in the guides standard attire. The third checkpoint was orienteering. To the year1s, it is something new and for the year2s and 3s it was to refresh their orienteering skills. The forth checkpoint was the stretcher where patrols were taught on how to build a stretcher and how to transport a casualty. Overall, the skills training was a recap on all the various skills and the year1s learnt a lot and have a deeper understanding of guiding now. This is one of the long-day jihe, from morning till evening but everyone had more time to bond with their patrol mates or their batch.
Happy holidays :D

Today the sec 2s to sec 4s did an activity for the environmentalist badge and also practised rope-throwing, for the boatswain badge together with foot drills.
During the activity for the environmentalist badge, we were to sew a pouch, tissue holder, pencil case, etc. using recycled materials. Most of the groups were not able to complete their work with some exceptions. Coy 1 did this activity until 4.05pm when the two coys swopped their positions and Coy 1 was to practise rope-throwing.
Rope-throwing practice was a to train us for the kayaking course as it is one of the component tested. After rope-throwing, we had Patrol Corner when the sec 1s finally get together with their seniors after their PT. For Patrol 4, we had a mini PT session and it was quite fun.
Sadly, Patrol Corner was the last activity we had to end off the day. It was quite a pity as today was also the last day of school in this term.
The sec 2s are having one-star kayaking course the next day and wish them all the best!!!

Yesterday, the year 3s had their combined obstacle journey with the scouts. We were divided into four patrols, p1 FTW, p2 naruto, p3 奶妈 and p4 shuriken.
There were altogether 6 OJ checkpoints--pt & shengqiao, gas room, minesweeper, rope climbing, trekking signs and acid river station.
At the pt and shengqiao station, we had to tie a yingsheng on two trees, forming a shengqiao. Then, the patrol had to be split into 2 groups; 4 people to wheelcart around an area, while the others had to cross the shengqiao. After that, there was a switch. In this station, the pl has to split manpower evenly. Although most of the patrols did not finish the appointed task, it was an experience for those who have not tried crossing a shengqiao.
For the gas room station, the patrols had to save two casualties out of a room. As there was gas in the room, we had to lie low when moving around. Some patrols attempted to treat the casualties in the room itself. However, the correct thing to do was to carry the casualties out of the room before treating them.
Most patrols did not manage to complete the minesweeper station. It was mainly because the patrol had to carry an unconscious casualty on a stretcher. Those who dropped down the spar had to ding pumping position while the rest continued. We learnt that it was important to allocate manpower well, as many people were not sure of what to do while others were carrying the stretcher.
For many of us, it was our first time climbing a robe. The aim was to get at least two people up the rope. One of the patrols managed to get four people up the rope. It was important to know the technique, as it will be very dangerous if you drop down from the rope. Due to an unexpected situation, one of the patrols had to stop halfway through the activity, while patrols after them had to wear helmets when doing the activity. In this station, we learnt that we should take note of safety at all times. It was also an important experience which will be useful in future activities.
The trekking signs station was part of the next station, therefore it was very short. The patrols had to solve a secret code and complete the tasks written in the code. Then, following some trekking symbols, the patrols were led to the next station. Everyone has to know the trekking symbols well, if not the patrol will not be able to reach the next station.
Finally, there was the acid river station. We had to cross an acid river by building a structure. Many patrols failed to take note of safety when crossing the river. A few people dropped into the acid river, hence receiving heavy penalty. Building the structure does not require the entire patrol. Hence, the PLs have to learn to make use of time, such as asking the rest to refill water supply while others were building the structure.
Lastly, the year 3s would like to thank the year 4 counsellors for their advise and encouragement in the past week. We would also like to thank all the year 4s for organising such an enjoyable COJ. I believe that this is an experience which all the the year 3s will never forget.

Hi Guides =)
Today, the Year 1s and Year 2s jihe'd in the usual ji-he area while the Year 3s had their COJ.
Then, the Year 1s and Year 2s were separated into their own jie and each jie went to their respective meeting places for their activities.
The Year 2s headed to classroom 3D and we had a quiz on our seniors. We were supposed to write down as many seniors (in their patrols) as we can remember, and if possible, their classes. Each correct class written down would receive one bonus point. Congratulations to P6 for winning the quiz with a score of 55 points! I think that we should put in more effort to remember all our seniors names and classes~
After that, we were briefed on the charity event held by Scouts and Guides. We also did an activity involving thriftiness, and the planning of usage of our money next week. Lastly, we wrote down a resolution each in the area of Money, Time, Utilities and Food. We are to hand in the worksheet (with the resolutions) with our parent's signature, stating that we have completed the resolutions, to Miss Ngau on the 3rd of April.
Next, we jihe'd at the General Science Lab Area for PT briefing. The Year 2s were then divided into 3 groups- Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3. Each group had 3 stations to complete.
For Group 2, we first went to the 6th floor for our first station. We were told to ding boy style pumping position while one person at a time memorizes a code and commando crawls to one of the year 4s to tell her the code. If any of us memorizes the code wrongly, we would have to perform several kung-fu actions until the next person arrives. If we get the code correct, we run back and continue to ding boy style pumping position. We could also change positions if necessary.
After completing the checkpoint, we then ran down to the first floor, to the General Science Lab area, for our next checkpoint. We were then separated into 2 and the given instructions were to run to the opponent's side to play scissors-paper-stone. Winners continue running but the loser returns to her line. In the meantime, the rest of the group does leg raise.
After finishing the second checkpoint, we ran to the basketball court to complete our final checkpoint of the day. In this checkpoint, we were supposed to step over a series of benches before running to a table. At the table, we must use our mouthes to dig for a gummy sweet located in a pile of flour, before running back to the benches and stepping over them again. Then, we had to pump 10 times before ding-ing girl style pumping position.
Then, we were supposed to zhan ma while passing a message along from the start to the end of the group. Anyone not doing standard zhan-ma would be coated in flour.
After that, we got back to our jie and jihe'd. The seniors then gave us 10 minutes to come up with a short skit which must contain the words Genie, Yoga, Frog, Guides, etc. After coming up with the skit, we were given 8 minutes to perform it to our seniors. I feel that the skit was quite funny. However, we were all too soft and too far away from the seniors for them to hear us.
Finally, we got our consequences for not wearing the proper attire while attending Guides. Let's all jiayou and try to pull our socks up (both literally and figuratively) in the area of attire. I'm sure that we can do it =)
