Hi guides (:
Last Friday the y3s had oj to prepare us for the upcoming coj in week 6. We were split into 6 patrols and each patrol had to pack one peibei, first aid kit and come up with songs and cheers for the oj. However, we were not prepared with our 2 青木s which we are supposed to have for every oj.
After a short briefing, we were split into our patrols and the oj began. For my patrol, our first station was the acid river station. We were supposed to build a structure to cross the “river” so that nothing touched the river and got “corroded”, with the available materials, which included 白木、浅蓝木、红木 and 黑木. For my patrol, our structure was unstable and too heavy to get to the other side of the river. Therefore, many of our items and people dropped into the acid river.
Our next station was the physical training station, where we had to do 2 circuits. In the first circuit, 2 people from the patrol were supposed to run to the 4th level with the 青木s and then do 10 star jumps and 10 burpees. After that, we had to run 1 round around the 4th level and do 10 star jumps and 15 pumpings. The rest of the patrol were in leg raise position and supporting a bucket of water. For the 2nd circuit, 2 people were supposed to do lunges for a distances and complete 1 squats there, while the rest of the patrol were in boy style pumping position. In this station, many of our items got kupped and patrol spirit was low. We could have cheered more to boost everyone’s morale.
After that, our next station was the minesweeper station. In this station, we were given 5 minutes to tie our 青木s to the minesweeper to help us cross it. After that, the patrol was to be in boy style pumping position while one person crossed the minesweeper. I feel that as a pl for the station, I should have supported my patrol mates more to help them cross the minesweeper. In the end, only two people crossed. However, our patrol read our notes and could answer many of the questions, which was a good effort.
Our 4th station was the first-aid. In this station, we were very slow in the cave. We were also unsure about the first-aid measures to carry out to save the casualties. We must read our notes more. We were unable to find any complete sets of the coloured paper and thus had to built a rope ladder after that. We were able to tie the rope ladder but we did not take note of the protrusion and whether the 木 were level, and thus the rope ladder was rather impractical. We should take note of these next time.
For our 5th station, we get to crawl through an obstacle course to look for 8 puzzle pieces while the rest of the patrol dinged girl style pumping position and came out to answer questions. Our patrol spirit was better in this station and we cheered constantly. After that, we were given a guides code to solve. We were very slow at this and only solved half of the puzzle. The guides code told us to built a fireman’s chair to rescue a casualty from the toilet cubicle. Most of us did not know how to tie the fireman’s chair. We should ask our seniors or jie-mates before coj.
For the last station, we were tested on our survival skills. We were given 8 minutes to choreograph a dance related to stones and pebbles while 1 person at a time carry ying sheng up a staircase where we had to fill a bottle with items for a filter funnel. We placed the cloth wrongly and missed out one layer of items. We need to be more sure of our filter. As for our dance, it was rather successful and every one of us contributed, making it a patrol effort. In the second part of this station, 1 person had to start a fire with yuan zi lu and yuan zi la and boil a mess tin of water within 8 minutes, while the others built emergency shelters. Our emergencies shelters were not practical and we should have used the bricks to secure them properly. Our fire was started rather fast, which was good. None of our items got kupped in this station, which was also a good patrol effort (:
Overall, we did fairly well for this oj but there is still much improvement to be made. We need to boost our patrol morale more and be more sure of our notes.
Coj is coming up soon, jiayou y3s! We can do it (:

Hello all (:
Yesterday was the mock OJ for the Year 3s in preparation for COJ which will be held on 12 February. There were 6 stations which all the 6 patrols had to go through.
At the physical training station, we had to do circuits. Two people at a time were to carry 3 qing1mu4 and run up to the fourth storey while the rest were to do leg raise and ding3 a pail of water at the third storey. At the fourth storey, we had to do 10 star jumps, 10 burpees and run one round around the corridors of the classrooms. Before joining back to our patrol on the third storey, we had to do 15 pumpings and 10 star jumps. For the second part of the station, we had to ding3 boy’s style while two people were to do lunges to the lift area and do 10 squats before running back to join with the patrol.
For the survival skills station, we were given a scenario whereby we have to rescue two casualties in the cave within 9 minutes before the next expected explosion. We were to build a stretcher to rescue one of the causalities. At the same time, we had to collect as many coloured papers and white spars which would aid us with our escape. We could either build a rope ladder with the white spars or use the coloured papers in exchange with an escape route using the stairs. However, there would be a penalty if we wanted to use the coloured papers. We had to ding boy’s style while one person at a time would have to go out to answer questions.
At the minesweeper station, the patrol had to ding boy’s style, while one person would have to answer questions and the PL would aid another person to cross the minesweeper to and fro. We were given two qing1mu4 to tie on the spars which had previously been tied to the railings to aid us in our crossing. We had to strategise wisely in order to make sure everyone could cross. First, we had to cross from the top and then return by crossing upside down.
Next, at the survival skills station, the patrol was given 8 minutes to think of a dance to perform within 2 minutes with the given theme: stones and pebbles. Meanwhile, one person had to carry the ying2sheng2 up the stairs and arrange a filter with the given items. Next, two people were to do fire lighting while the rest of the patrol had to build as many emergency shelters as possible with whatever we had.
The next station was the electric fence station, where we had to crawl under raffia strings and avoid obstacles like tables and chairs. We had to collect as much green paper as possible and with it, exchange for a puzzle with the guides’ code which we had to put together and decode. After that, we were to follow the instructions of the code which was to tie a fireman’s chair to save a patrol member who was stuck in the toilet cubicle. However, many of us jumped to conclusions and decoded ‘fireman’s ladder’ instead of ‘fireman’s chair’.
At the last station, we were given a scenario whereby we had to build a small structure with the given mu4 to aid us in crossing an acid river. As the whole patrol was required to cross the river, we thus had to build a stable structure which could stand on its own. The correct structure to build was to tie a tripod stand and tie two hei1mu4 to it so that we could slide across the river.
Overall, I felt that we had to have a greater sense of urgency as we guo4shi2 many times and had to ask for many time extensions also. This OJ taught us to be more bonded as a patrol, have team spirit and work well together as well as putting our best and pia dao di.

Jiayou Year 3s for COJ!
24 January 2010
On Friday's jihe, we had roll call first at the general science lab area as the elavated court was occupied. After that, we were given 10 minutes to mass change into pe and bring along our compass and water bottles. My patrol's year 2s nearly exceeded the time given as we did not listen carefully to our year 3s instuctions. Then, we split into 4 combined patrols and had 'Fun Orienteering'.
Our first station was at the obs course. In our individual patrols, 1 person has to try to cross the monkey bars while the others ding boys style. We had 8 minutes to get as many people to cross as possible and try to get all the sweets sticked on the monkey bars. Then, we have to ding zhan ma and support 2 hei mu. Meanwhile, we will go out 1 by 1 to answer questions. many of us could not ding standard zhan ma and the year 4s had to frequently correct our positions.
For our second station, we are suppose to use the compass and find our way to the station masters with the given bearings. My patrol had no compass as ours had spoilt and we were unable to borrow 1. We got 20 pumpings for this mistake and learnt that in future, we should always check our equipment before jihes so we can have longer time to replace faulty ones.
However, my combined patrol was very unorganized during the orienteering process and we barely got pass the second orienteering instruction. We were not very familiar with using the compass as we did not read our notes. Eventually, the year 4s told us the destination for our second station. We were suppose to build a basha but 1 qingtou was being hidden and we had to find it using the trekking signs. We were misled a few times and took a rather long time to find the hidden qingtou. We were also unable to finish the basha so we should work faster in future as ample time was given. Then, we had to find pieces of a map and using the compass, find the place on the map with the instructions given.
Our third station was the poker cards station. We are suppose to memorize all the cards and flip them over in sequence. It was rather interesting watching everyone hyperventilating over whether they remembered the correct card. In the end, we took such a long time that the station master gave up and told us the correct places of the cards.
The final station was the Roman Chariot station. We had to tie the Roman Chariot in 6 minutes. But we not only guo shi, we also tied it the wrongly and the lashes were loose. After that, we had to transport a person for 6 laps around 1 side of the general science lab area.
Overall, our patrol spirits was rather high as we cheered alot and sang many patrol songs. :)
Love guides! :)

Hello guides! :D
Yesterday, we jihed at our usual place in our guides uniform.
First, we had roll call, just like last week, but due to the elevated court being occupied, we had an attire check at the general science lab instead. Some guide’ attire were still not up to standard. Some of our socks were too low, hair were not properly done and enrollment badges not polished. A guide should always take pride in her attire as it reflects on our standard, and hopefully we would all improve after these 2 rollcalls.
After that, the year 2s and 3s mass changed into our pe attire, while some of us took the first aid kits, compasses and water bottles. We managed to keep within the time limit given, good job everyone!
All geared up in the proper attire with the things we needed, we were split up into groups, 2 patrol per group, and headed off for Fun Orienteering. There were 4 stations in total, the poker card station, the station at obstacle course, the roman chariot station and the basha cum map reading station.
At the poker card station, we were required to memorise the positions of all the cards and open them in the correct sequence. Then, we were supposed to play a game. However, most patrols did not strategize properly beforehand, and only one patrol managed to have enough time to complete the game.
At the obstacle course station, we were to ding boys style while one member of the patrol crossed the monkey bar, while getting as many sweets that were stuck to the monkey bar as possible. Then, we did zhanma while members of the patrol took turns to answer questions, which was the time to put all the notes we have read to use.
At the roman chariot station, all patrols were to build a roman chariot each, and carry their members across for 6 rounds. It was a good chance to revise our traditional games skills, and all patrols managed to complete the 6 rounds :)
At the basha cum map reading station, we were tested on our trekking signs, basha building and map reading using a compass. It was one of the first times we have done map reading in guides and it was really an eye opener for us as many of us found our way through the map to kong kong cave. (:
After all patrols assembled after the activities, we had a debrief on our performance, and we should all take note of our mistakes and take care not to repeat them.
The year 3s stayed back for a briefing about a jie OJ we were to have next week, and then were split up into different patrols for a while to discuss patrol name and cheers.
All in all, through yesterday’s jihe , many of our doubts were clarified and skills like orienteering were revised. For the year3s, it was a good experience for all of us to have a chance leading. I’m sure that all the guides have learnt much during this jihe, especially the year2s, and I hope that we will be able to put what we have learnt into good use in future!
Love guides! (:

Hello guides,
We had roll call, followed by prize presentation, evaluation and patrol corner for friday's jihe.
Some of the year twos were pumped during roll call as they were new to roll call and did not really get the importance of it. As for the year 3s, we should take pride of our attire at all times in guides and also to set a good example for our juniors.
During the prize presentation, Ms Ngau presented the awards to the camp challenge participants, we won many awards and the whole company rejoiced with loud and overwhelming cheers.
Next up, we had evaluations by the year 4s. They commented on our performance this year and what we should aim to improve on. I am sure that everyone of us reflected and learned something during that session.
For my patrol's patrol corner we started off by building 2 fire altars we chose the wrong mu and in the end they were quite short however it was rather stable. Shortly after, we had 8 minutes to mass change into guides u and our patrol managed to keep within the time limit. Later we were given 6 mins to change back, and again all of us managed to keep within the time limit as all of us helped each other and bao-shi consistently.
After that, we were punished for our mistakes we did while building the fire altar, as one of our mu was being taken away by the seniors, also we did not check our logistics properly even though there was ample time and we did not take enough bai sheng.
Lastly, we had a combined patrol corner with p4 and p8 and we played Blow Wind Blow. It was very fun as we got to know everyone better :)

In all, we had a meaningful day bonding with the patrol and we must definitely remember what the year 4s told us for us to avoid making the same mistakes next time. Jiayou, we can do it!

Hello guides :D
Yesterday, we had our first official jihe in 2010.
To start off, we had roll call at the elevated court. For the year twos, it was our first time experiencing the ceremony and we were quite unsure of what to do. Quite a number of us had to pump for not standard attire. I think we should improve on that, for our guides uniform signifies our respect towards guides. We do want our juniors to be looking at us saying: "whoa, they look so seh in their uniform!", dont we?
After that, we mass changed into coy tee and had an awards presentation ceremony at the area outside the general science labs.. A round of applause to the prize receivers (: Keep up the good work, dhscoy!
Following that, the year fours evaluated us. Im sure all of us learnt something, and resolved to work harder. Afterall, our juniors are coming in soon and we want to be of good example to them! We also learnt something important, which is to lead by example. It ended with us boosting our bond among our jie mates (:
We had patrol corner and admin later on. We got our badges, thought up of initiatives and badges we want to pursue. We then went to the elevated court area and played an improvised version of ice and water (where we had to run around in pairs, and people caught had to ding boys style), as well as hide and seek. It was a fun game which tested our wits during hide and seek, and communication with the person we were running with during ice and water.
Soon, time was up and patrol corner ended. Then all of us jihe at the usual area and after singing taps, we were released.
Hope many of us learn something new today and improve together as one whole batch. Jiayou everyone :)
