27th July Guides Activities

Hi Guides!(:

On Friday, we had our usual Guides 集合!(: This was the last 集合 before the Common Tests and CCA Stand-Down.

Our 集合 had two parts: from 3pm to 5pm, it was PA, followed by 5pm to 6pm 届PT!(:(:

P1 & P3 PA!

For P1 and P3 combined PA, the Year 2s and Year 1s from both patrols had to complete one combined Kitchen Shelter and Kitchen Table within 1 hour 15 minutes. The Year 2s were given chances to lead the patrols as the PLs for this activity was rotated as time went on. During the PA, the Year 3s started to kup logistics to check if the patrol was taking care of their logistics properly. This PA was quite a valuable learning experience for both the Year 2s and Year 1s(:

P2 PA!

For P2, the Year 2s and Year 1s learned about the various ways of Outdoor Cooking: using portable barbeque pits, mess tins, and a fire altar. At the start of the acitivity, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 40 minutes to complete one fire altar, followed by 10 minutes to start a fire in one barbeque pit, one 原子炉, and one fire altar, after which they had 50 minutes to cook and eat(:

P4 PA!

For P7, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Table and one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 35 minutes. However, the weather was very windy and after preparing the Kitchen Shelter, the patrol had to wait to 起 it as the structure was too unstable and unsafe. Despite these difficulties, the Year 2s and Year 1s remained cheerful and went on to start on the Kitchen Table(:

P5 PA!

For P5, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Table and one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour. After that, they learnt how to 起 a 8-Men tent and Dome tent, in preparation for ATC, followed by some foot drill practice for 20 minutes. They were given a debrief at the end of the activity, where they learnt about the areas they could improve on and etc...(:

P6 PA!

For P6, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 15 minutes, followed by building Emergency Shelters. Everyone in the patrol had to build one Emergency Shelter per person within 1.5 minutes. The Year 1s had more exposure to spars instead of the usual gadget poles, and both the Year 2s and Year 1s learnt more about how to build the 2 mentioned camp gadgets which are essential for ATC(:

P7 PA!

For P7, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one combined Kitchen Table and Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 35 minutes. After completing the structure, they had a 5 minutes Patrol Corner, during which they took a rest from pioneering and had a debrief(:

P8 PA!

For P8, they had a "Learning Journey" in which they were tested on their Survival Skills, Trekking Signs, and Distress Signals. For Station 1, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to tie 8 emergency shelters (of which one had to be able to fit all of them) within 10 minutes and move all their logistics under one of them.

For Station 2, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 5 minutes to build a water filter and filter a cup of water. Then, they had to build a stable structure which can collect water as well as filter water at the same time. They were given 11 minutes to complete it. Afterwards, they played catching for 9 minutes, during which they were tested on their knowledge of water.
For Station 3, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 10 minutes to light two fires and boil two mess tins full of water, during which they had to volunteer one member at each time to answer the questions about fires until everyone answered at least one question.
For Station 4, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to do a three-legged race thing (just that there are more than three legs) on the road and they had to decipher a total of 10 trekking signs to find their 'food', after which they were tested on their knowledge of the Edibility Test. They then had to form the correct Distress Signals for rescue(:
P9 PA!
For P9, the focus was on Camp Gadgets. The Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Dome tent, one 8-Men tent, one Flagpole, one Shoe Rack, and one Baggage Rack within 1 hour 20 minutes. Afterwards, they had a 10 minute debrief during which they learnt how to improve on their gadgets(:
P10 PA!

For P10, the Year 2s and Year 1s had a mini OJ. They had to decode the Guide's Code to find out the locations to the stations. For Station 1, they had to complete as many Emergency Shelters they could within 10 minutes. For Station 2, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to do 200 Kallang-Wave pumpings and 20 Jumping Jacks.

For Station 3, they had to complete one Fire Altar within 20 minutes. For Station 4, the patrol was put into Girls' Style pumping position for 15 minutes, during which they were tested on their Trekking Signs. For Station 4, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete a usable Creative Gadget within 15 minutes with the logistics used for the Fire Altar(:

After PA, we had 届PT!(:

Year 1 PT!

The Year 1s were put into Leg Raise position in one single file outside 3G classroom. The Year 1 at the end of the line had to run around the entire Year 3 / 4 Block, after which they would choose a number from 1 to 30 and answer the corresponding question posed by the I/C. If they answered 5 questions correctly, the batch got to change position. If they answered wrongly, they would have to do 5 pumpings on the spot. The I/Cs told the Year 1 the correct answers when they answered wrongly.
After that, the Year 1s had to do circuits. One circuit consisted of 15 Jumping Jacks, 10 Sit-ups, 10 pumpings, and 1 round of running around the Year 3/4 Block. They had to complete 2 circuits within 10 minutes(:
'The London Olympics' section of the Year 1s' PT then started!
The Year 1s were split into Coy 1 and Coy 2. The first group had to do 10 Jumping Jacks and 5 pumpings before they start on their ‘Olympics’, while the second group 站马ed in front of the lift while waiting for the other group to finish, and vice versa.

The 3rd level corridors of the Year 3/ 4 block were split into 3 sections, each length of the corridors being a section.
Hurdles
For the first section, the Year 1s were running for the hurdles race. The 'hurdles' were represented by rocks, which were randomly placed along this section of the corridor, and the Year 1s had to frog jump, across the corridor while avoiding these ‘hurdles’.

Bowling
For the second section, the Year 1s were competing in the bowling competition. They did lunges for the length of this section, just like how a bowler’s position would be.
Swimming
For the last section, the Year 1s were competing in the swimming competition. They had to Boys' Style pumping position in a line to form the ‘lane’, and the Year 1 at the end of the line had to commando crawl underneath her mates, like ‘swimming’. This continued till they reach the end of this section, all the way to the ‘finishing line’.

Year 2 PT!

Theme: The Olympics Journey!
Overview: Singapore and specifically, DHS, was chosen as part of the route that the Olympics torch will go through. All the Year 2 Guides became the torch-bearing group, and they must successfully bring the "torch" through their entire PT journey.

The torch was one 青木(:
As part of the route, the Year 2s had to run carrying the "torch" around the school so as to "introduce" it to DHS, starting at the Hostel Entrance and ending at the GSL.

At GSL, they faced bad guys who want to steal the Olympic torch! They then had to run up to the fifth floor, Year 3/4 Block, to escape them, in 3 minutes!

However, on the fifth floor, the bad guys caught up with them! The Year 2s then had to escape stealthily, unnoticed, with the torch! They had to do Launches for the first half of the block and Caterpillar Walk for the second half.
After escaping the bad guys, the Year 2s ran into another crisis! The torch's fuel decreased to dangerously low levels, and now they have to send for more fuel from HQ but HQ does not want to give them fuel, so Year 2s had to do 400 Kallang Wave pumpings within 8 minutes!
Finally, after reaching the 6th floor, the Year 2s reached the last part of their PT, circuits. They had to complete one circuit within the allocated time. One circuit consisted of 1 round around the Year 3/4 Block, 20 Sit-ups, 20 Jumping Jacks, and 1 minute 顶 Boys' Style pumping position(:

Year 3 PT!

The Year 3s started off with playing catching for 15 minutes at the parade square. 3 catchers were selected. Once a player was caught, she had to do 5 pumpings and be the new catcher. No one was allowed to run beyond the boundary of the the parade square.

Afterwards, the Year 3s had to do circuits. One circuit consisted of 20 sit ups, 30 jumping jacks, 10 pumpings, 1 round lunges around the classes, 1 round of running around the classes. This continued for 10 minutes.

Then, the Year 3s had to different positions for 16 minutes. They were allowed to change their position in this order: Boy’s Style → Girl’s Style → 站马 → Leg Raise once every 4 minutes is up(:

 加油 for Common Tests! (:(:(:(:

20th July Guides Activites

Hi Guides!(:

For 20th July, we had PT from 3.15pm to 4.15pm, followed by PA. The Year 2s were not around as they went to take the course for their Total Defence Silver badge, while the Year 1s only came in from 4.15pm onwards as they were involved in the Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM).

For PT, it consisted solely of the Year 3s!

The theme of the PT was titled, “The Journey to LALALand”.
Imagine that it is the school holidays now and the company has decided to visit this land far far away for holiday. However, there were many obstacles along the way, so we had to overcome them in order to visit this heavenly place. This heavenly place was the board walks around 正心园.
Part 1: The Long Journey
We ran around the school and enjoyed the scenery(: This was to stimulate the beautiful surroundings along the way to LALALand as well as the long journey there. We started off from the GSL, to the basketball courts, then ran one round around the school track, before exiting into the parade square, followed by running to the foyer and the carpark behind the staffroom block, to the GSL area, and finished the journey at the hostel canteen entrance! It was a long journey indeed!(:
Part 2: The Gates to LALALand
We arrived at the city gates to LALALand (hostel entrance), but the guards wanted us to do something before they released us in. Their request for the admission was for our group to do 700 Kallang Wave pumpings! The 20 or so of us persevered to the end and managed to complete all 700 of the pumpings(:
Part 3: The Last Lap
However, there were more obstacles before we reach the heart of the city. We were only at the outskirts. Vines started to creep around half of the people’s legs. Half of us could not walk. We had to think of a solution to bring everyone from the hostel entrance to the entrace of the boardwalk behind the Confucius statue.
In the end, we chose to use piggybacking as the way of transport. Being the one piggybacked was fun, but being the one piggybacking was tough. Halfway through the journey, it started drizzling on us!:( The rain spurred us to hurry up to the end where it was sheltered. Some of us did not have the strength to piggyback anymore, so some of the Year 3s who reached the end rushed back in groups of 3 to 4 to help carry the person. It was a really memorable experience(:
Part 4: LALALand
Finally, it was the end of PT. We walked through the boardwalk and enjoyed the scenery:)
After PT, most of the Year 3s ran up to 团部 to carry down their logistics for PA as the Year 1s were arriving soon(: Then PA officially started!
P1 PA!
For P1, the main focus was on gadgeting! (: During PA, the Year 3s taught the Year 1s how to tie a Kitchen Dresser and Emergency Shelter, and taught them how to raft and net. The Year 3s guided the Year 1s as they built the Kitchen Dresser, pointing out where to tie and the points to take note of. As there were only two Year 1s, the Year 3s also helped out in tying the Kitchen Dresser, working alongside with the Year 1s.
After completing the Kitchen Dresser, the Year 3s demostrated how to build an Emergency Shelter, then gave the Year 1s 5 minutes to build one. They then had to 拆it and rebuild another one in 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
P2 & P5 PA!
For P2 and P5, the focus was on gadgeting and orienteering(: The Year 1s had to use the compass bearings given to them to find the logistics needed for a baggage rack, after which they were given 50 minutes to build one themselves. After completing the baggage rack, they were then taught how to build a flagpole, with guidance from the Year 3s.
P3 PA!
For P3, the focus was on gadgeting and firelighting(: The Year 1s were taught new lashes such as the quadpod lash, tripod lash, and A-架 lash. Afterwards, they were shown the proposal for a Fire Altar, followed by completing one themselves.
After completing the Fire Altar, the Year 1s were then taught how to start a fire with kindlings. They then used the fire to roast ice cream cones that were stuffed with marshmallows and chocolate chips(: It was quite a sweet experience!(:
P4 & P7 PA!
For P4 and P7, the focus was on orienteering and survival skills!(: They moved from Station 1 to Station 4 using the compass bearings given to them. Station 1 was about the importance of shelters. The Year 3s explained to the Year 1s all about shelters, then they had a mini pop quiz on how to select a suitable site. After that, they had to build one Emergency Shelter per person in 5minutes.
Station 2 was about the importance of food and fire(: The Year 1s were tested on their edibility test, followed by a test on firelighting skills, using yuanzilu and yuanzila to sterilize a fork.
Station 3 was about First-Aid!(: The Year 1s were given a demostration on how to tie the large arm sling, elevation sling, and how to treat a head wound. After that, they were given three different scenarios to test their newly learned skills.
Station 4, the last station, was about the importance of water:) The Year 3s explained everything about water and also demostrated how to build a water filter to the Year 1s(:
P6 PA!
For P6, the focus was on orienteering and survival skills! The Year 1s had to move from Station 1 to Station 3, all the while using the compass bearings given(:
For Station 1, the Year 1s had to choose the correct materials for a filter column from a selection, after which they had to build one filter column within 1 minute. Then, they had to choose the correct materials for a bamboo filter and build one(:
For Station 2, the Year 1s had a short PT combined with a test on their knowledge of Guides. The Year 1s had to  Girls' Style pumping position while one person stepped out to answer a question at a time. There were a total of 5 questions and five puzze pieces, which after answering the questions, they had to piece them together within 5 mintues.
For Station 3, the last station, it was the Acid River station. The Year 1s had to build a gadget within 25 minutes with the logistics given to cross the 'river'. They built a bridge-like gadget and managed to complete the station successfully(:
P8 PA!
For P8, the focus was on gadgeting, reaction to animal attacks, and the Guides code(: They had a 'Fairy Tale Adventure', which consisted of 4 stations in total.
To start off, they were given a paper on which "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" were written on it in Guides code. They were then given the question, "How many characters are there?", to which they had to decipher the code to answer '4'. The answer then denoted the floor they had to run to for their first station.
For their first station, they had to tie a cube with only square lashes. In the middle of tying the cube, 'Bear Attack' was shouted and they had to react to it accordingly. (lying dead)
To get to their second station, they were given another paper on which "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" was written on it in the Guides code. They were then given the question, "One of the latter died, how many are there left?", to which the answer was 6.
For their second station, they had to complete a cross fence within 8 minutes. It was made via tying 8 crosses together to form a fence. In the middle of tying the fence, 'Bee Attack' was shouted and they had to react to it accordingly. (squatting under a poncho)
To get to their third station, they were given the code "The ? Little Pigs", to which the answer was 3. For their third station, they had to build two pots. One pot consisted of one quadpod with all the 脚s, with one tripod turned upside down to be hunged on the quadpod, forming a pot-like structure. In the middle of tying the pots, 'Boar Attack' was shouted and they had to react accordingly. (running in a zigzag motion)
To get to their fourth station, the Year 1s were given the code "Peter Pan", and the question "Who is the main female character in the story? How many letters does her name have?", to which the answer was Wendy -> 5. For their fourth station, the Year 1s had to think of a creative gadget within 13 minutes that had different lashes involved(:
Finally, the Year 1s were given the last code,
" And they all lived happily, ever after. The End." (:
P9 PA!
For P9, the focus was on orienteering, First-Aid, and survival skills(: Firstly, the Year 1s were taught how to use a compass.
Then, they had to complete a total of 4 stations, each focusing on different skills. To get from one station to the other, the Year 1s had to use the compass bearings given to them.
For Station 1, the Year 1s had to answer a series of questions about Guides, such as the Guide Laws, as well as the distress signals. For Station 2, it was the First-Aid station. They had to treat a casualty with a sprain left ankle and fractured collar bone. Halfway through treatment, there as a flash flood and they had to build a stretcher to transport the casualty with the logistics given.
For Station 3, it was another First-Aid station. Again, they had to answer a series of questions regarding treatment for 1. choking, 2. nosebleed, 3. a head wound, and 4. an open fracture. For Station 4, it was the fire-lighting station(:
P10 PA!
For P10, the focus was on gadgeting(: Firstly, the Year 1s were brought to 团部 and were taught how to identify the various 木s used in gadgeting. They had a short revision on the various lashes for 20 minutes, after which 1 hour was allocated for them to complete one Kitchen Dresser, with the Year 3s helping out and guiding them along the process. Afterwards, they were given 20 minutes to build a small table, which tested on their squarelash and rafting skills. Then, the Year 3s taught the Year 1s the various PT positions after clearing up(:

16 July 2012

13 July Guides Activities

Hi Guides(:

On 13 July, we had our first Friday 集合 after PDP without the Year 4s. Firstly, we had attire check and patrol corner, followed by Patrol Activity (PA).

As the Year 1s were gone for around the first two-thirds of 集合 to take their Total Defence Badge (Bronze) course, we had PA with just our Year 2s. Each patrol's PA was different, but P1 and P3, as well as P2 and P9 had combined PAs.

P1 and P3 Combined PA

For P1 and P3, there was an amazing race! (:

This amazing race was to test the Year 2s’ survival skills and expose them to more seldom First Aid situations. Both patrols moved together as one from Station 1 to Station 4. Messages written in guides code were given to the Year 2s and they had to decipher the message then hop in the gunny sacks to the next station. Patrol Leaders of P1 and P3 were the station masters while the rest of the Year 3s followed the patrols to make sure everyone is alright and does not injure themselves while moving to the next station. PSs carried the first aid kit/shirts/other items at all times while following the patrol.

For Station 1, the patrols had to use a compass and the directions given to go to various spots and find the materials for a water filter, after which they had to decipher the Guides Code and mass change into their patrol tees in 2 minutres. For Station 2, the patrols were given 10 minutes to build their water filter and filter a cup of water. For Station 3, the First-Aid station, they had to treat 1) a woman in childbirth, 2) a person struck by lightning, and 3) a person who is unconscious from drowning. For Station 4, the patrols were tested on their fire-lighting skills. They were given 10 minutes to boil a mess tin filled to the brim with water, followed by cooking milo with the boiled water:)

Afterwards, the patrols had to build a baggage rack together. They were given 30 seconds to look at the proposal, after which they had to run to 团部 and take the logistics needed for the baggage rack. Halfway through tying the baggage rack, the Year 1s returned to help out.

Then the Year 2s were given time to mass change back into their PE shirts and P1 and P3 had patrol corner in their own respective patrols(:

P2 and P9 Combined PA

For P2 and P9, they tied a kitchen shelter together. After getting their logistics, both patrols were given 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete a kitchen shelter. It served as a revision of how to tie a kitchen shelter for the Year 2s and test their teamwork together. After finishing the kitchen shelter and keeping all the logistics, they had patrol corner and revised how to tie all the lashes(:

P4's PA

For P4, the main focus was on gadgeting. For the first one hour, the Year 2s were re-introduced to the types of 木 and how to distinguish them. Then they revised how to tie the basic lashes such as square lash, diagonal lash, etc, after which they were given 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete one baggage rack and one kitchen dresser. After keeping away all the logistics, they had patrol corner as a debrief and to facilitate patrol bonding(:

P5's PA

For P5, the main focus was on camp gadgets. The Year 2s were given 2 hour 40 minutes to complete one baggage rack, one fire altar, and as many Bashas as they could complete. This acitivity was planned to help the Year 2s revise how to tie the three mentioned camp gadgets and practise their lashes. After completing the gadgets, a debrief was given and they had patrol corner after keeping the logistics (:

Thoughts from a Year 2 Guide:
Firstly, we had a 20 minutes patrol corner with the Year 1s because we had time to spare. It was quite awkward because it was our first time having Patrol Corner with the Year 3s taking over. I think most of us (especially Emily) wanted to start a conversation but were shy and ended up talking among ourselves. We should learn to speak up more and not make patrol corners so awkward. In the midst of pioneering, we didn't 照顾好东西 and ended up letting many of our things get kupped. However, I think that we did a great job of pioneering and although we could have made many improvements, it was a better job done than expected. We also looked at examples of the proposals drawn by the Year 3s and mimicked them, but since it was our first time, we took a longer time to draw! But we were assured that with practice, we would do it fast and nicely (: I hope we will continue to improve! As well as hope that our Y1s will do well in the next 集合!

P6's PA

For P6, the main focus was on how to tie all of the lashes, as well as a bit of gadgeting. For the first one hour, the Year 2s revised how to tie all of the lashes commonly used in gadgeting, such as square lash, diagonal lash, tripod lash, quadpod lash, etc. After that, they had to complete a baggage rack, with the Year 3s guiding them along the process. They had a debrief after completing it and had patrol corner afterwards(:

P7's PA

For P7, PA was a combination of gadgeting and PT (which was combined with P8). For the first half of PA, the Year 2s were given time to complete one flagpole, one baggage rack, and one shoe rack. For the flagpole, the Year 3s demonstrated how to tie and secure the flag before letting the Year 2s try.

After gadgeting, there was PT, which was combined with P8.The title of the PT was "2012 - Ending of the World", which had three segments: Earthquake, Tsunami, and Alien Attack. Each segment had two circuits which the patrols had to complete one circuit within 18 minutes.

For Earthquake, the patrols took turns to draw lots to see how many rounds they would have to run around the Year 1/2 block. During the second circuit, there was a sudden boar attack and they had to run in a zigzag motion. For Tsunami, the patrols had to complete 100 sit-ups for the first circuit, Kallang-wave style, and 100 pumpings for the second circuit (Kallang-wave too). For Alien Attack, the Year 2s had to stay in Plank position in 1 minute, followed by commando-crawl, crabwalk, lunges, and frogjumps around the Year 1/2 block.

P8's PA

For P8, PA was a combination of gadgeting and PT(which was combined with P7). For the first half of PA, the Year 2s practised all their lashes, which were then tested by having a creative gadget activity afterward. They also practised their netting and rafting skills after the creative gadget activity.

After gadgeting, there was PT, which was combined with P7. (see above)

P10's PA

For P10, PA was a combination of gadgeting and PT. For the first half of PA, the Year 2s built one baggage rack, one Japanese table, and two Japanese chairs. A Japanese table is built with four 中木 that are 打进 at the four corners of a rectange, followed by two 长木 that are tied to the 中木, forming the length of the rectangle. Finally, half-bamboos are rafted on top of the 长木 to resemble a table. A Japanese chair is built with two 中木that are 打进 at two corners of a square, followed by two 短木 at the opposite side of the 中木. Two 中短木 are tied to the 短木 and 中木, creating two opposite sides of the chair. 10 half-bamboos are then rafted onto the 中短木s, while two 中短木s are tied near the top of the two 中木s, creating the seat and back of the chair.

After gadgeting, there was PT. The Year 2s got into boy's style position. Every two minutes, a pair came out to play scissors paper stone. The person who loses went back to boy’s style position while the winner picked a piece of paper, on which there was be a form of PT. The winner then completed what is stated on the paper before returning. This was repeated for 20 minutes. At the 10 minute mark, the boy’s style position will change to girl’s style. For the next 25 minutes, circuits were done. One circuit consists of 2 rounds around the level, 15 jumping jacks, 5 star jumps and 15 pumpings(:

Thoughts from a Year 2 Guide:
For me, being PL was not easy. This was also the first time that we did this. The PL has to work with the PS and had to give clear and precise instructions. It is also a lot of teamwork and cooperation. I have learnt from this 集合 that the PS has to aid and communicate with the PL to discuss ideas about the structure and stuff. Being a PL, you also have to keep calm and plan everything out. She has to be able to think about how the structure would work and everything. It is really not simple work. During the PT, I think our stamina had decreased and we were not up to standard. However, our patrol morale was quite high. We cheered constantly. This 集合 was a great experience for the year 1s and year 2s! (:

After PA, everyone 集合ed at the General Science Lab, where we received the Cookie Sales form and were then dismissed.

加油 for Cookie Sales! (:

Overnight Camp on 7-8 July 2012

Last week, we had an overnight camp on 7 to 8 July. This camp was a very significant and memorable one as we had our Enrollment ceremony and Passing-Down ceremony during this camp. It was a leisure camp meant for the entire company to bond and have fun:)

On 7 July, we started the camp at 2.45pm. Firstly, we had a short patrol corner to revise the footdrills for the Enrollment ceremony, which is a formal ceremony that will make our Year 1s truly recognized as Guides. They would wear their Guides uniform for the first time and would receive their Enrollment badge, which is pinned on their scarf, a symbol that identifies them as a part of Girl Guides. It is a very significant milestone in every Guide's journey. After patrol corner, we ran to the field to practise the footdrills.

After that, we had company games:) There were a total of two games played. One of them was at the parade square, while the other was at the elevated court. The company split into two groups, one group playing at one location, followed by a switch after one hour.
At the parade square, we played captain's ball...with a twist!:) Two patrols played against each other in one court. We started things off with a volleyball....a warm-up for what was to come :):)

Then we had a switch of materials, and a tennis ball was switched for the volleyball! The tennis ball, being smaller, was slightly harder to catch, but we managed to work together and score goals for each of our respective patrols :)

The tennis ball was then switched for a sponge that was slightly soaked with purple paint >:) It spiced things up as it was stained with paint (but not dripping with it) and whoever who caught it got their hands stained too! However, we got over it and just had fun:)

After playing with the sponge, we had a switch of patrols so as to promote inter-patrol bonding throughout the group. We played captain's ball with the same materials in the same order, starting off with the tennis ball, followed by the sponge....and...

The sponge was then switched with a wet rag!:D And this time, it was dripping slightly with water, so when it was thrown, water splashed down around the vicinity:) It was thrilling and we had lots of fun throwing it to our patrolmates:)

After this game at the parade square, we had a switch of location (and games!)

At the elevated court, we played a different game. Due to space constraints, only two patrols could play at one time. We took turns to play the game, so while two patrols were playing, the other two were waiting. While waiting, the patrols had patrol corner so as to bond more within the patrol(:

When it was our turn, the game was played like this: each patrol was provided with cotton twine and water balloons. We had to do something like a three-legged race, but with one water balloon cushioned between each person's neck and shoulder. If the water balloon were dropped, it can be picked up, but it would slow the patrol. The patrol who reaches the other end of the court first wins:) We all stood in one line at the end of the court, with the person on the right tying her left leg together with the next person's right leg. The next person then tied her left leg with the next person's right leg, and so on, till the end of the line, where the last person has her left leg free.

And we were off!

Although it was difficult to coordinate our movements, and the water balloons kept slipping off our shoulders, we all agreed we had fun, whether we won or not :) And then....we had free time to play around with some surplus water balloons! >:D

Thoughts from a Year 2 guide:
Everyone was very active during the games, and we all had fun bonding not only as a patrol but also with other patrols. Both games were very interesting and fun in all, and many of us got quite wet during the second game! :)

After this, we gathered back at the parade square and mass-changed into our Guides uniform, followed by roll call at the field, then we had dinner at the canteen:)
After dinner, at around 7 to 8pm, we went up to the hall. All the year 1s' parents were there to witness the Enrolment ceremony. But before that, an introduction to DHS Guides company was given by Tse Puay, our former Company Leader, followed by an introduction to Young Adult Leaders branch of Guides, which is meant for former Guides of ages 17 to 18.

The Enrollment ceremony then began.

We had a short break and had photo-taking as a patrol, batch, and company. :)

From a Year 2 Guide:
As we watched our Year 1s getting enrolled, we were filled with a sense of pride and joy. We were happy that our Year 1s officially became a part of our big family:)

After photo-taking, the Passing-Down ceremony began. This is another formal ceremony meant for the Year 4 Guides to step down as the former leadership batch and pass down their positions to the Year 3 batch, the new leaders.

After the Passing-Down ceremony, we had 1 hour and 30 minutes to change into our performance attire and rehearse for PDP'12. PDP stands for Passing-Down Parade, which is a series of performances put up after the Passing-Down ceremony for our Year 4s. We perform as a batch, meaning that all the Year 1s will perform an item together, followed by the Year 2s, the Year 3s, and the Year 4s.

At around 11.30pm, we started off PDP'12! The Year 1s performed first, dancing to the song "Fireworks", and some of them shuffled across the stage! :) Halfway through the song, they invited the Year 4s up onto the stage to dance with them (:

Then the Year 2s performed. They also performed a dance item, to the song "Fantastic Baby". :)

After that, the Year 3s performed. They performed a musical about some aspects of camp that with short dances in between. Then they performed a song item, followed by a small talk by each of the Year 3s to their Year 4 seniors in their respective patrols.
The Year 4s performed a dance item to the song "Stereo Hearts", followed by a song item. After that, they took turns to have a heart-to-heart talk to their Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 juniors in their respective patrols.

Thoughts from a Year 1 Guide:
It was a very emotional experience for me. Even though I wasn't that close with the Year 4 seniors, I realised I was extremely sad with the fact that they would not be around us all the time. I realised the importance of the time that we had spent together and also the memories that we had. I remember being one of the few awkward Year 1s crying!

Thoughts from a Year 2 Guide:
We were all feeling sad as the seniors were passing down already. All of us were overwhelmed with emotions and many of us cried. Everyone was quite upset that the Year 4s were leaving. We'll definitely miss the Year 4s a lot!

Thoughts from a Year 3 Guide:
During PDP'12, especially during the Year 4s' performance, we Year 3s felt sad as the Year 4s, our direct seniors, were passing down. As the new leadership batch, we felt a little lost as our seniors were leaving us. However, we will definitely grow into our roles and bring the company to greater heights(:

After all the performances, we had supper and patrol corner.

At around 2am in the morning, we had lights-out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day, 8 July, we woke up at 7am and had a light breakfast with our patrols, after which camp ended. Some of the patrols went to the nearby MacDonald's to have patrol breakfast together, as well as to exchange PDP presents, and have a nice talk with their Year 4 seniors (:

WE LOVE YOU YEAR 4s! <3
