27th July Guides Activities

Hi Guides!(:

On Friday, we had our usual Guides 集合!(: This was the last 集合 before the Common Tests and CCA Stand-Down.

Our 集合 had two parts: from 3pm to 5pm, it was PA, followed by 5pm to 6pm 届PT!(:(:

P1 & P3 PA!

For P1 and P3 combined PA, the Year 2s and Year 1s from both patrols had to complete one combined Kitchen Shelter and Kitchen Table within 1 hour 15 minutes. The Year 2s were given chances to lead the patrols as the PLs for this activity was rotated as time went on. During the PA, the Year 3s started to kup logistics to check if the patrol was taking care of their logistics properly. This PA was quite a valuable learning experience for both the Year 2s and Year 1s(:

P2 PA!

For P2, the Year 2s and Year 1s learned about the various ways of Outdoor Cooking: using portable barbeque pits, mess tins, and a fire altar. At the start of the acitivity, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 40 minutes to complete one fire altar, followed by 10 minutes to start a fire in one barbeque pit, one 原子炉, and one fire altar, after which they had 50 minutes to cook and eat(:

P4 PA!

For P7, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Table and one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 35 minutes. However, the weather was very windy and after preparing the Kitchen Shelter, the patrol had to wait to 起 it as the structure was too unstable and unsafe. Despite these difficulties, the Year 2s and Year 1s remained cheerful and went on to start on the Kitchen Table(:

P5 PA!

For P5, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Table and one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour. After that, they learnt how to 起 a 8-Men tent and Dome tent, in preparation for ATC, followed by some foot drill practice for 20 minutes. They were given a debrief at the end of the activity, where they learnt about the areas they could improve on and etc...(:

P6 PA!

For P6, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 15 minutes, followed by building Emergency Shelters. Everyone in the patrol had to build one Emergency Shelter per person within 1.5 minutes. The Year 1s had more exposure to spars instead of the usual gadget poles, and both the Year 2s and Year 1s learnt more about how to build the 2 mentioned camp gadgets which are essential for ATC(:

P7 PA!

For P7, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one combined Kitchen Table and Kitchen Shelter within 1 hour 35 minutes. After completing the structure, they had a 5 minutes Patrol Corner, during which they took a rest from pioneering and had a debrief(:

P8 PA!

For P8, they had a "Learning Journey" in which they were tested on their Survival Skills, Trekking Signs, and Distress Signals. For Station 1, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to tie 8 emergency shelters (of which one had to be able to fit all of them) within 10 minutes and move all their logistics under one of them.

For Station 2, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 5 minutes to build a water filter and filter a cup of water. Then, they had to build a stable structure which can collect water as well as filter water at the same time. They were given 11 minutes to complete it. Afterwards, they played catching for 9 minutes, during which they were tested on their knowledge of water.
For Station 3, the Year 2s and Year 1s were given 10 minutes to light two fires and boil two mess tins full of water, during which they had to volunteer one member at each time to answer the questions about fires until everyone answered at least one question.
For Station 4, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to do a three-legged race thing (just that there are more than three legs) on the road and they had to decipher a total of 10 trekking signs to find their 'food', after which they were tested on their knowledge of the Edibility Test. They then had to form the correct Distress Signals for rescue(:
P9 PA!
For P9, the focus was on Camp Gadgets. The Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete one Dome tent, one 8-Men tent, one Flagpole, one Shoe Rack, and one Baggage Rack within 1 hour 20 minutes. Afterwards, they had a 10 minute debrief during which they learnt how to improve on their gadgets(:
P10 PA!

For P10, the Year 2s and Year 1s had a mini OJ. They had to decode the Guide's Code to find out the locations to the stations. For Station 1, they had to complete as many Emergency Shelters they could within 10 minutes. For Station 2, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to do 200 Kallang-Wave pumpings and 20 Jumping Jacks.

For Station 3, they had to complete one Fire Altar within 20 minutes. For Station 4, the patrol was put into Girls' Style pumping position for 15 minutes, during which they were tested on their Trekking Signs. For Station 4, the Year 2s and Year 1s had to complete a usable Creative Gadget within 15 minutes with the logistics used for the Fire Altar(:

After PA, we had 届PT!(:

Year 1 PT!

The Year 1s were put into Leg Raise position in one single file outside 3G classroom. The Year 1 at the end of the line had to run around the entire Year 3 / 4 Block, after which they would choose a number from 1 to 30 and answer the corresponding question posed by the I/C. If they answered 5 questions correctly, the batch got to change position. If they answered wrongly, they would have to do 5 pumpings on the spot. The I/Cs told the Year 1 the correct answers when they answered wrongly.
After that, the Year 1s had to do circuits. One circuit consisted of 15 Jumping Jacks, 10 Sit-ups, 10 pumpings, and 1 round of running around the Year 3/4 Block. They had to complete 2 circuits within 10 minutes(:
'The London Olympics' section of the Year 1s' PT then started!
The Year 1s were split into Coy 1 and Coy 2. The first group had to do 10 Jumping Jacks and 5 pumpings before they start on their ‘Olympics’, while the second group 站马ed in front of the lift while waiting for the other group to finish, and vice versa.

The 3rd level corridors of the Year 3/ 4 block were split into 3 sections, each length of the corridors being a section.
Hurdles
For the first section, the Year 1s were running for the hurdles race. The 'hurdles' were represented by rocks, which were randomly placed along this section of the corridor, and the Year 1s had to frog jump, across the corridor while avoiding these ‘hurdles’.

Bowling
For the second section, the Year 1s were competing in the bowling competition. They did lunges for the length of this section, just like how a bowler’s position would be.
Swimming
For the last section, the Year 1s were competing in the swimming competition. They had to Boys' Style pumping position in a line to form the ‘lane’, and the Year 1 at the end of the line had to commando crawl underneath her mates, like ‘swimming’. This continued till they reach the end of this section, all the way to the ‘finishing line’.

Year 2 PT!

Theme: The Olympics Journey!
Overview: Singapore and specifically, DHS, was chosen as part of the route that the Olympics torch will go through. All the Year 2 Guides became the torch-bearing group, and they must successfully bring the "torch" through their entire PT journey.

The torch was one 青木(:
As part of the route, the Year 2s had to run carrying the "torch" around the school so as to "introduce" it to DHS, starting at the Hostel Entrance and ending at the GSL.

At GSL, they faced bad guys who want to steal the Olympic torch! They then had to run up to the fifth floor, Year 3/4 Block, to escape them, in 3 minutes!

However, on the fifth floor, the bad guys caught up with them! The Year 2s then had to escape stealthily, unnoticed, with the torch! They had to do Launches for the first half of the block and Caterpillar Walk for the second half.
After escaping the bad guys, the Year 2s ran into another crisis! The torch's fuel decreased to dangerously low levels, and now they have to send for more fuel from HQ but HQ does not want to give them fuel, so Year 2s had to do 400 Kallang Wave pumpings within 8 minutes!
Finally, after reaching the 6th floor, the Year 2s reached the last part of their PT, circuits. They had to complete one circuit within the allocated time. One circuit consisted of 1 round around the Year 3/4 Block, 20 Sit-ups, 20 Jumping Jacks, and 1 minute 顶 Boys' Style pumping position(:

Year 3 PT!

The Year 3s started off with playing catching for 15 minutes at the parade square. 3 catchers were selected. Once a player was caught, she had to do 5 pumpings and be the new catcher. No one was allowed to run beyond the boundary of the the parade square.

Afterwards, the Year 3s had to do circuits. One circuit consisted of 20 sit ups, 30 jumping jacks, 10 pumpings, 1 round lunges around the classes, 1 round of running around the classes. This continued for 10 minutes.

Then, the Year 3s had to different positions for 16 minutes. They were allowed to change their position in this order: Boy’s Style → Girl’s Style → 站马 → Leg Raise once every 4 minutes is up(:

 加油 for Common Tests! (:(:(:(:
